Is this intended? Heatadvantages in Flightassist-OFF

Hello Forumplayers.

Yesterday when i flew my Cutter inside a CZ i noticed that as soon as i turn off my FA i loose about 10-15% Heat as long as i leave it off. Allowing me to fire Packhounds till the Clip is empty (4 Racks, all high capacity magazine). Thats quite the advantage especially in PvP against Heatmodded Enemys. Is That intended or a bug? I have no idea.

Maybe because your thrusters dont counteract your movement anymore?

Right in one.

Flight Assist always has thrusters going to ensure a smooth flight to counter whatever the player does.

Turning off Flight Assist disables these thrusters.

Anything that uses power (thrusters) will produce heat.

If the thrusters are not operating, they are not using power.

Thus they will not produce any heat.

As they are not producing heat then your overall current heat rating will drop.

Working as intended.

Despite recent history I doubt even fdev would have the nerve to look into the FA toggle switch and rebalance it ;)

Turning off relative mouse would balance it. But not very fair to the folks without a HOTAS and using FA Off.

That doesn't sound right, 10-15% heat loss? Have you got a video or screen shots? I fly 90% FA-OFF, have never noticed anything like that.

It depends on the ship, the equipment, and the mods.

People who spend most of their time in FA-ON, will notice a bigger change because it is out of their norm. People who spend most of their time in FA-OFF will see less of a change because they are already under the benefit as a norm.

thrusters and engines + weapons + size of ship + other stuff = heat gains during FA-ON. The thrusters and engines go away when you sit in FA-OFF. (This does not mean you can boost all you want. That is driving your engines and any thrusters you engage thus increased heat.)

Also, bigger ships remove heat better than smaller ships.

While I'm not sure of the exact figure, it's definitely in the ballpark. It likely depends on ship mass, thruster grade and any mods on the drives.

With that said, I have a long-range plasma Vulture which I basically have to fly FA-off (which I do anyway, as you know) because of the differences in heat. In FA-on, firing both plasmas pushes heat north of 120%, where it stays for a good 30 seconds. In FA-off, it briefly hits 115-120%, before coming back down to the 60s/70s within about 5 seconds.

There might be a difference between dirty drives and normal/clean drives? I haven't noticed that much, even on planets (where heat builds up the higher the gravity, or the closest to the surface).

There is a difference with dirty and clean drives. There's still a difference between FA-on and FA-off on a long-range PAC Vulture. A significant one.

I was meaning that maybe it is more noticeable depending on the drives upgrade. As I said, I haven't noticed any difference in heat/fuel usage with and without FA, never bothered with engineering the thrusters.

Definitely no difference in fuel usage, fuel burn has nothing to do with thrusters output. Regarding the heat difference, must be something to do with extreme engineer builds, not something I have seen in years flying FA-OFF, can't even see a logical reason for such a huge difference in heat output.

Did you check your heat with FA on but at full stop, when thrusters are not working? just curious

In my case, it manifests as heat not dissipating as quickly rather than as a high base heat. I would guess that the same thing is heppening in the OP's case.
