Elite is a massive waste of time!

... I've spent countless hours playing ED, and I have absolutely nothing to show for it...

....because it's a video game.
It's what they do.
:p

If wasting your time is not your thing, then video games are also not your thing. :p

You're welcome!

Can we stop complaining now?

I dunno about nothing, I got tendonitis in my right elbow. Not Tennis Elbow but Dangerous Elbow!

We're all just killing time on the relentless march to the grave...

I like your quiet optimism.

Lol, wouldn't say I have nothing to show for it. Didn't have a frikin clue what argument of periapsis is, heck I didn't even know 1 Mega meter is 1000km.

Have learnt so much random stuff from ED over the past few years. I even google star names whilst on exploration trips, 2 hours later I am reading about Egyptian mythology, wondering how I got here.

I wish I could do something productive instead of playing a game. But I can't. FDev are literally forcing me to play Elite: Dangerous. I would sue them but my lawyer said it's my own fault and there was no case. He's wrong, of course. But why would no one believe me? FDev are evil and need to be stopped. HELP!

Entertainment and leisure are a waste of time! First world problems. :p

I wasted over 2500 hours in Skyrim. In Elite it's even more. :x
I can only imagine how much time I've wasted watching TV/Movies since I was a kid.

"I've spent countless hours playing ED, and I have absolutely nothing to show for it..."

When you spend hours looking for materials and data only to come up empty handed. Then that is where that complaint comes from. People are not talking about the game in general there. Your time FEELS wasted in those cases and people have the right to complain when they make strides towards an objective but end up feeling like they are on a treadmill.

When you spend time blowing up space bandits and having laughs yea you still accomplished nothing because duh its a game your life is still just as worthless (well yours is at least wink wink)...But you don't feel like you just wasted your time on a stupid video game because you FEEL like you did something or at enjoyed the process of doing it.

"If wasting your time is not your thing, then video games are also not your thing."

So I consider this statement to be nothing but ignorant and prideful gate keeping that serves to ignore the actual legit problem with the grind.

Whats the saying? A moment spent enjoyed is not wasted no matter what you were doing. The opposite is also true...

That's called addiction, it's all fine and dandy until it isn't ;)

Time you enjoyed wasting, is not wasted.

Apparently for op any kind of entertainment is a waste of time, by his standards.

I can almost imagine op at the end of a date:

"I had lots of fun tonight cosmichead, we should do it again sometimes".
"Yes, was definitely a good waste of time".

I saw this title, I was ready to write exactly what your OP says...
Never have I ever been so dissapointed to see something clever. Good one. :p

I think some of you are taking this thread too seriously.

But for the sake of discussion, there are people who are completely oblivous to when they are not having fun. (ie. they just don't know when to quit or try doing something different)

I have a couple of buddies like that. When we play first person shooters, they will walk up to the same corner and headshot sniped by the same guy 20 times in a row, because they think can they can "get him". It usually just ends with frustration and not playing the game for a long time.

Some of the threads complaining about [insert whatever] just reek of those kinds of symptoms.

AUTO-PLAY FTW!

No more grinds! No more Rebuys! No more waiting for the missions you want! No more anything!

Just hit the Auto-Play button and log-off. Come back in 24 hours to see how your Auto-Bot commander is making out. Log-out and go back to whatever it is you prefer doing over playing Elite Dangerous yourself. :)

I'm excellent fun at parties!

Yes I'm sure.

haha I do that to. it's amazing the things you can learn. I also love the sense of the scale of space in this game. I've always been a big fan of sci fi but alot of it, games and tv makes it all seem to small and accessible
