Question about how things work around here

Also this game works perfectly with the forum as complementory past-time to alt-tab while travelling or waiting for loading screens. This gives lot of opportunity to post something more or less (un)reflected.

That's how it works for me. I bet time spent in the browser and time spent actually in game are pretty much 50/50 for me.

Currently my trading Python is flying on the left monitor...The Frontier Forum on the right. No alt/tab needed on the PC when running ED in borderless window mode.

Whining posts are light reading and often silly per their demands. Many don't have the game experience to suggest changes and those that do often promote them as a positive change for all players while just wanting their game play style to dominate. Informative posts can provide tech info I've forgotten about or add to what I do know. Positive posts are a joy to read associating with others who love the game. Choose wisely.

Its a universal principle: the happy majority has just no reason to post at all.
The dissatisfied minory who are discontent with everything whine.
That's an incomplete picture - see below:

some people just leave the game without saying a word.
For every vocal complainer, there are probably 100 unhappy players who don't bother complaining.

So it's definitely worth listening to the complainers, as there is probably a grain of truth in it.

It's just that ED have no real competitors people try to change the game from the inside, and more than in other games.
But that's probably true too.

It's the same on every game forum I've ever been a part of.

With Elite the complaints are a lot more justified. The common message is ships and universe great but gameplay bad.

I think Frontier should create a website where people can upvote their suggestions so we can clearly see what's supported and what is not.

By the vocal minority ;)

All the time I see people who come in here, start throwing around demands, dictating to the developers like they're disobedient children, moaning about how terrible the game is now and how it should be, then let it slip somewhere that "I haven't played the game in awhile, but..."

My question is, is this SOP around here, and does anyone else think it's odd?

Well, this forum is like most game company forums:

Some people come here to thank the Devs, some to share ideas and suggestions with them, some to talk about what's not working for them, some just to talk about what they don't like, others to declare or berate...

...and some even come here to complain about what others come here to say.

I've seen this kind of videogame whining since the infancy of the internet in the 90s. An entire generation of people have come and gone, but human behaviour remains the same.

It's probably better to let the whiners whine on some sort of official forums where the damage they can do is limited and the developers can respond when needed

At least here, angry teenagers won't be goaded into doing something destructive like DDoS attacks or hacking accounts or even self harm.

Savage. [smile]

Easy peazy to explain:

Why is it that I can pay $45 to do 5 times more things in Star Citizen than what took me $60 to hope to do in Elite. Yet I can't even leave my chair in Elite, let alone seamlessly land in atmospheric planets with completely fleshed out ship manufacturers and NPC's?

Really? I hadn't realised that it has already been released. I'm rushing out to buy it now!

Yes. No. NEEEEXXXT QUESTIONNN??

Me too. I usually download games these days, but for this one I'm going to pick up a boxed copy in my local store. They'd better have it in stock or else I'm going to give the sales assistant hell.

The comparisons with real life and game stuff and the gimme-all-now are SOP as well. But for me the best of them all are the 'I'm done with ED' or 'I quit for good' by the same people after every patch.

Reminds me of the people who threaten to move to Canada after an election doesn't go their way, and then, to my disappointment, never do.

As a Canadian, I can't stand this either. Like we just roll out the red carpet for any American that is kind enough to grace us with their presence. We have immigration laws too, ya know?

Ooh, you can play SC five times now untill it burns out, it used to be four no?

You forgot to add the 1.5k quid for a PC that can run it. At 30fps.
