So, the release of 3.1. is this week? Anybody knows if this version contains the "i go to sleep on my ship and wake up also in my ship after i logged out and in again"? The Roadmap doesn´t show it but I thought it is in this update?

It seems that CGI speeds up everything with the quartal updates and I think about it to invest a little more time in it than in ED. Played the 3.0 and the atmo is superb!

Well according to their own website its at least listed so yay :)
 
Future civilisations will believe that we worshipped Andy Serkis' as some kind of god as so much effort is put into super-imposing his features onto everything.

It won't be long until all parts in all films will be played by Andy Serkis via motion capture. He'll be performing love scenes with himself, awards ceremonies will consist of a virtual Andy Serkis avatars receiving awards from other virtual Andy Serkis avatars in front of a live virtual Andy Serkis audiance...sort of like Rimmer world but with Andy Serkis

Maybe a super advanced AI will some day replace us, much like at the end of the movie A.I except instead of elegant alien looking things, they will just be slender creatures with Andy Serkis' features grinning at each other

So...It will be a weird version of "Being John Malcowich" but with Andy Serkis.

LOL.

But, I used to live up the road from his facialness (His missus popped round for coffee, and our kids played together) and whist a lot of people can method-act not many can method-act as a different species.

Andy is a cool dude.

I tinker in AI, and one of my goals is to simulate Andy in a mocap suit so I can take over Holywood. I also want a volcano lair and a flying submarine.

I thought this was pretty awesome. I love the idea of creating these huge ships with detailed internals. And then to be able to seamlessly go from walking around inside the ship to floating around outside the ship.

@0:44- So about half of the ship is the landing gear. Deploying it immediately breaks the particle effects on the engines.

@1:27- Oh they've started adding "Auto-turrets" since it became apparent that nobody will ever crew turrets on their ships. I wonder if they've actually got the turrets working? My money is on no.

@4:00- Massive salvage arm! Doesn't work. But it's gonna be really cool! <Proceeds to imagine how cool it will be>

@5:00- Tractor beam operator seats! Don't work. <Proceeds to imagine how they will work>

@6:00- Scanning station! Remote Turrets! Don't do anything. <Talks about what these might be for>. An engineering station! Doesn't do anything. But look at all those particle effects in the grinder!

@7:15- Escape pods, that don't work

@8:35- Drooling over detailed wires in the elevator shaft. I honestly do not understand how any of these sperglords can give a poo poo about the fidelitous loose wires when nothing on the ship works. He shows off the turret access ladder- "Unfortunately I can't go in it right now"

@9:30- Gravity generator, I guess this makes the goo.

@9:50- "This is the drone room. Now they don't have the drones in here yet..." OH YOU DON'T SAY. Look, an operator seat for a thing that isn't in the game! Thrilling.

I kept staring at the first ship’s engine nacelles, and wondering, “Why?” You have your engines thrusting at an angle into each other, so you’re wasting energy, thrust, and stressing your hull unnecessarily. If you’re wedded to the “turn engines for VTOL” idea, attach both engines to a single boom, and move THAT.

For me it might be interesting for a little while but it needs some meaningful content put in so there's a point to being able to do that. Some fun emergency EVA missions etc. And I think there are big question marks around that.

Ultimately, if you enjoy just experiencing these things for the sake of it, more power to your elbow.
 
It must be extremely annoying for Chris Roberts and his zealots that people simply would NOT forget all the past promises and statements. How is he able to reset everything and keep going if people ask for and hold him to what he said years before? Somehow he still needs to break it to his fans that due to fluid development Star Citizen is not about creating a game anymore. The funding meter is the game :D
Actually embarrassing is that they still haven't moved past those JPEG ship sales.

I mean it was a neat funding idea for 2013, but running that scheme for six years straight. Seriously?

Seems people are still buying them. So why would he stop?

Well, hopefully at some point, the flow of jpegs will stop, the dust will clear, and there'll be an actual game for us to enjoy :D

The alternative is that the game is the flow of jpegs - and that's not at all what I signed up for.

Nah. You have to remember Chris' old-time design sensibilities are at play here. Once you get them all, it'll just wrap back around to zero and you have to do it all over again, only this time, it'll be in JPEG2000.

One more reminder of what kind of force Epic Games are in gaming industry. Just look at the list of games that have used UE over the years - hundreds of titles. Of all kinds of genres. Many of them were regarded as some of the best looking games of the period.
Surely these guys know how to make an engine.

Chris Roberts would build his own college three times, then start building a university before the blueprints were ready and end up with a second hand car dealership.
