Space Cow Redux - The Type-9 reborn!

Hello CMDR’s,

Prior to update 3.0 my main ship was an Imperial Cutter because I am a space trucker and the Cutter carried way more cargo than any other ship. This despite the fact that the Type-9 was a more interesting design for me and I prefered the feel of it overall. Losing a few hundred tons of cargo was just a gap I could not cope with.

Like many other CMDR’s I was thrilled that the Type-9 got its long awaited buff and now it is my main ship and my Cutter is going to be re-purposed for something else in due time. For me, the Type-9 is now good enough and I am happy with the switch after some recent sessions to test it out. It felt really good updating my INARA signature to feature my Type-9 Heavy, the Spice Rhino!

Are there any other former Cutter pilots that have also switched to the Type-9 and are enjoying the change? Are there any space truckers who are deciding not to start the rank progression to get the Cutter because the Type-9 now meets their needs? I’d love to hear how many truckers are feeling about the recent changes.

Btw Frontier, the renewed love for the Space Cow might present a good opportunity to sell us some Type-9 bling. I’d love to see some new paint jobs and a ship kit for this legendary ship as it enjoys its new time in the sun!

Did the jump range increase at all? I did enjoy the big feel of the T9 (to a certain extent) but the jump range was a killer.

They did lower the hull mass to 850t, but when you add 256 tons more cargo I think the jump range comes out similarly. Of course, the new engineering system will help there but for me the jump range fully laden for commodities trading and haulage is fine.

I've bought and sold 2 type 9s in the past, always wanted to like it, but never could.

Over the weekend I bought one again and semi-engineered it. Ran some loads for the CG and did some missions, then parked it and got back into my Cutter...

...to strip it of cargo racks and repurpose it! Now I can run obscenely large shields in the 8slot, and have all sorts of room for 1st class cabins or mining junk or w/e else in the cutter.

I'm in the same boat as you, not sure what I'll use the cutter for, and really not too concerned about it, as I finally fell in love with the Type-9 and don't want to use anything else for cargo runs.

I did the same, love my Type 9 just trying to figure out what kind of weapons I want for it. As for my Cutter I put in 8 slot prismatic shields and made it into my general purpose ship.

I have had good success with G5 efficient beam turrets in the 3 medium slots. They stay lit constantly, the 6A PD is more than enough for that. I put MC turrets in the small slots *shrug*.

Forgot to add, anyone have experience with clean drives and/or low emissions PP? I forgot how hard she works engaging FSD with a full load.

Heat hasn’t been that big of a problem for me yet. I did get over 80% a few times when engaging the FSD within a planet’s gravity well, but not over 100% and no damage. I’ll keep an eye out though, maybe the G5 DD’s I want to add might not work as well as I had hoped.

Big T9 fan here. With the extra cargo even better. It suits the pace of my game. Solid slow and massive.

Nothing better then closing in to a station with a fully loaded T9.
