General / Off-Topic I've just noticed a feature... that I've never seen on any other forum

I didn't block for a long long time, but some people are just noise and negativity, others are genuine trolls.
Can always remove the block later, I'll sometimes see ignored users being quoted, but more often than not all that does is confirm they have nothing constructive or useful to say.
The few where I do catch something interesting in a quote (whether I agree or not), I can always remove the ignore.

The thing about blocking people is that you gonna end up in an echo chamber if your blocking them for an opinion,i personally have never used the ignore feature on a forum,never will.
I just do my best to just ignore the person but at least im reminded every now and then of a different perspective.
I wonder how many people wont see this message
I haven't ignored a thread but I have ignored a few people for various reasons. I put one guy on my ignore list simply because his terrible use of the english language drove me insane.
i dispise the sole idea of blocking another user on the grounds of his/her opinions. not only am i a staunch defender of free speech, but i would feel embarrased about not being able to cope with others being how they are.
that said, i confess i'm ignoring34 users right now. 23 of them just because of the noise, after having read nothing but attention seeking nonsense for months, plus they are (or were, dunno) hyperactive, sometimes enough is just enough. 1 more just for fun (don't ask).

I tried blocking meself once and spent the next 24 hours chat banned after provoking one the mods one on some other thread...some ancient history thread I dunno there was more than one ban...many more as it turned out done the crime enjoy the time...out...actually now Im paranoid it might have actually been a bona fide ban...well gee thanks fer that op...night ruined

Eh, you have to be particularly annoying or have a one track thought process for me to ignore you. I would never personally grow if I ignored everyone over different opinions, so it's mostly an unused feature for me. It's good to try to expand your mind and learn other ways of thinking, even if you feel like it might be killing brain cells.

And it was abused horribly. Good riddance to negative rep.
As far as 'ignore' goes... when my mod hat is on I do recommend it to people when handbags start flyin', but *personally* I don't agree with it. We should all be respectful towards one another and listen to what the other has to say. If someone is violating the rules then report it and it'll be sorted. But putting people into ignore lists.... just seems wrong imho. Again - personally. I would never do that but I support the option.

Every now and then I'll be reading through the posts and come across terrible english guy and immediately think, "how did you get back on here!" Then I realize it's cause I'm not logged in yet. So I log in, whew! He's gone again!
Why would you want to block someone. Turning the forum into an echo chamber one poster at a time.
If you dont like what someone said, just skip their posts with your own eyes the next time you encounter them, or not.. (next time they might say something useful).

I can only speak from experience but folks have been slugging it out here for years and with passions running high it can get quite personal. I believe its fair to say that a seething hatred as developed.
For me, the blocking feature is akin to sticking your fingers in your ears and shouting "LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA!!"

Not everyone takes it that seriously...a few do but only the foolish hold grudges on a game forum where we are not only faceless, we are nameless and invisible...ye could be comuning with a very smart bot fer all ye know...or 25 stone long distance lorry driver who lives on a mere 8 mcdonalds a day and lives in a caravan in a field who ye think is really a ponytailed princess in the virtual world...
People are strange m8...dont say I told ye I was never here and then change the subject onto the weather ^
Silly people then. I dont hold personal grudges when i butt heads over stuff, this isnt real... its a game. Im sure at some point i will meet people from this forum and share a beer or two, why make anything personal. Life is to short.
+1. It's a matter of perspective. What's important in life? An internet argument or actual friends? The forums are a good source of entertainment as long as one doesn't start thinking it's real.
