FDev- Yes or No - Are we ever going to get basic functionality out of the mission board?

I recently went to support a faction at war- shock and surprise, there are ZERO massacre missions to support this faction. There are no combat missions AT ALL. Their opposition has a board full of massacre and combat missions (of course). So it's not an issue of lag between mission boards and system state.

Stop this. Seriously. Stop this. The missions given by a faction should reflect their state. Always. 100%. All the time. Immediately.

We should be able to just pick the mission type we want from a drop down menu. But if you can't do that, at least make sure the system you've set up works coherently.

*drops mic*

Take a mission for the other faction but join the side you wish to support in the CZ, chances are you will get a rival offer from your preferred faction while in flight.

Go fight for the faction you like in the CZ. When you need reloads check the board again.

I bought and equipped a corvette that way, no whining required.

Yes, there is an issue with the mission server, though the best way round it is to just grind in the CZ and hand in bonds. One of my factions is in expansion and it's only giving me 2 expansion missions, I have to reload every time and pray for RNGesus to give me a good roll.

The hyperbole in your title was too much. Do you really need a mission for every task you want to do? Just do the thing you want to do, if there is a mission to make a little cash on the side then great, if not do it anyway.

Sometimes, seeing responses like some of the above, I can't help but actually understand why the game has so many issues.
Community, instead of being united and trying to actively find solution propositions for Frontier to consider, is busy arguing among themselves about validity of anyone's thesis that something's wrong / needs some love.

No wonder they're not keen on fully listening to a bunch of arguing children that can't even respect one's different opinion, let alone come up with cohesive alternatives to game's shortcomings.

See threads like this, with half of responses being "forum-daddery". And you expect Frontier to take us collectively seriously? Yeah right...

Idea for the mission board based on what OP said:

- Default mission board view shows a random selection of missions as it does currently.
- The drop down filter for legal/illegal missions etc... should be expanded to encompass all mission parent types - combat, trade, exploration, salvage, piracy, mining, courier etc...
- Picking one of those filter options doesn't just filter the random selection, but instead populates the board with a full complement of only those mission types, which includes the ones of that type present in the default view.

Almost as if the default view shows a small selection of a wider availability of missions, AND it might go some way to alleviate the problem of board hopping (said problem being not that it's an exploit, but that it takes you outside of the game to get the missions you actually want).

Maybe then, since we have different boards for passenger and regular missions, move the illegal missions to the Black Market Contact tab - having different shady Mission Givers for the factions' illegal dealings, and populate the main mission board with only legal ones. Actually... I might mock something up on Photoshop.

Meanwhile, in another thread, people have been complaining that missions are *too* dependent on BGS state, and more room should be made for generic missions which show up regardless. Maybe the two of you should fight a War to see who the forums should support?

Being more serious, the missions available to wartime factions do 100% reflect its BGS state. The problem is, there are several mission types available in the state of War - only one of which is CZ massacre.

There could be a focus on increased diversity - rather than picking (e.g.) 4 of the 7 possible War mission types and sometimes not having CZ Massacre (people complain less when "Donate Personal Weapons" is missing) - it could always try to generate all types, in roughly even amounts.

But then, the people who don't want increased diversity - they want 20 skimmer kill missions - would complain that every other mission type was forcing theirs out. It's not so bad for CZ Massacre where if there's 2 on the board it's almost as good as there being 20.

Now, if there was 20 of every mission type for every faction, people would be happy ... well, until it was a weekend and the mission servers couldn't take the generation load, and the players complained that it should be faster.

Which players should Frontier listen to?

Dang, it's going to be a while before I can do a mock up of anything, my ship is over at the Guardian Structure!

How do expect FDev to take the community seriously when people constantly talk in such in such exaggerated and disingenuous terms? Besides as Ian Doncaster mentioned, which people do FDev listen to? These forums never even come close to reaching a general consensus on any issue.

I completely agree, the gross exaggeration and sarcasm can make it difficult to work out what the actual issue is.

If someone has a complaint I may well agree if it's put across in an easily digested way. Too much of this stuff goes on, it's just not useful feedback.

great advice but i'm still curious: why is this is supposed to work this way?
