Grind grind grind....then out of nowhere I find a gem of a "game play" : Silent Running

Love ED, hate the grind, will never stop playing.
Seeing that since 3.0 all I have done is gather mats for engineering(I only have 7 ships) , I thought "people do go on about how fast a Courier is ?" [haha][big grin] and I also have recently started seeing NPCs use SR or similar...

One fully engineered iCourier ship later we have :
Speed : 885 m/s(varies as I add/remove modules between, 600 and 900ish)
Cornering : put it this way,she turns 180 degrees in no time(FA Off not needed) even just after boost at max speed !!!
Emissions : LOW !!!(including PP engineered for low emissions)
Attack : Zero to moderate vs small ships :D
Defense : Non existent to ok vs small ships :p
Best defense tactic : SR and RUN !

Switch on silent running, and she stays "hidden" for over 6 minutes(without switching any modules off) , and if you do switch thrusters off, well it is as if you are not in SR :D
(go in to SR,speed up in a direction you want to go , thrusters off, FA off...and cruise forever in the dark :p)
You can scare the bejesus out of a Cmdr when you get close to them in Open and they suddenly see you(proximity detect). I swear I even saw one ship "judder" when I got to within 300ish metres :cool:

Basically, if you are bored ... find a way not to be,break the monotony !!!
ty

p.s. Just curious... how do the big 3 behave in SR ?

Mmmm Your making me want an iCourier. I've been in this game since the Alpha and I've never owned one because,....well,...I really wanted the bigger original iCourier from Elite II & III in the game, yes I know the Clipper & Cutter are available, they are *almost* the same as that great ship from the past, but......just not close enough for my tastes. Could it be time to relent and give this new iCourier a chance I wonder? I will think about it. [yesnod]

reminds me of all the wanted DBX's in a resource extraction site when I'm in my overheating iCourier with D rated sensors trying to make some money... I nearly have to be touching their ship with the nose of the iCourier before I can target them :D

You want several iCourrier's ^^

One for exploration & canyon racing. Mine does 800, has dumbfire for skimmers and non sense like flying faster than the missiles. Jumps 35lyr with the SRV and all the explo stuff.
One for combat with HRP's / good shield and weapons, 800 and peanuts boost.
And now I'm trying to make one for thargoids with 2x guardian rails and one flak.

This ship is a joy to engineer and outfit because there is compromises and tradeoffs everywhere :)

The iCourier is objectively the best ship in the game all round. It can do anything. Win a buckyball race one minute and assassinate a corvette pirate lord the next.

I use mine for; Exploring, single player pirate lord assassinations. Some base assaults. All planetary scans. All base runs for MEF, most of my HGE farming, it's my go to ship. mine does 860 boost combat fitted with 3A shield and PP and a full complement of weapons (2 lightweight MCs and a feedback rail). She jumps 37ly too, scoops from empty to full in less than one orbit of a star, and every single time I fly her, I get the shivers, the ship is just EPIC, I feel completely invincible when I fly her. Mine has a paper hull, so I tend to rely on boost to escape rather than silent running, but hey, whatever works for you!

Can you share your combat fitted 860 boost as I would probably love to get another one outfitted :)

Sure, and it's not even finished, it will go a few m/s faster when I've got some more mats.

Bear in mind, combat fitted is very subjective. It;s got 330mj shield, no boosters, no cells, no hull reinforcement, no bulkheads, you better make yourself IMPOSSIBLE to hit if you wanna succeed against anything with some firepower, but then, that's the draw for me, underdog. The weapons are lightweight, so if you don't have a feedback railgun, you won't have enough ammo to take down a dangerous anaconda or bigger, without synthing mid combat. 860 is without SRV bay, but WITH disco scanner.

I'm afraid it;s going to be a while, I'll be home in 4 hours, probably log in straight away and try to play until the wife gets home, if the kids leave me the hell alone, little brats. lol. Love em really :)

Just a tip for very fast combat courrier : 0E G5 resistant boosters with supercapacitor are pretty good : +9% shields +15% res all only 0.5t and don't use much juice. A bargain :)

Imagine a 3 ton elephant attempting to sneak up on you, like a cat does. It goes about as well as you think it might.

I have a silent running DBS; with engineered frags. It's a little bit of fun. I can go cold, and sit there with heat basically not moving. Drift around with FA-Off and half the time I forget SR is even on.

dognosh, osrry mate, I didn't forget about you, just didn't get much time last night. Did a skimmer experiment and logged out. Will try again this afternoon.

Small hint: If you use clean drive tuning you don't even need silent running, yes you are a little slower but still faster than most. The biggest threat is ramming NPC Clippers/Cutters they kinda see you and don't when they try to scan they boost into you:)
