Grind - can we solve the problem?

I really don't get how a game of any kind can make me "grind" at all.

Pretty easy, players grind to achieve something they want at the end- I wanted Imp Cutter, really bad. It was my goal but to achieve it I had to get through boring and not enjoyable chain of delivery missions" aka unholy grind. At the end I got my Cutter - I love it but I hated time getting to it.

No, you didn't have to do it that way, it was just the easiest and quickest way to go about it. That was your choice to go about it in that way.

Simple and obvious changes that FDevs could implement in a heartbeat:

Increase travel speed in supercruise

Get rid of the stupid 5,4,3,2,1 countdown that makes you wait every time you enter supercruise or hyperspace J (or this could easily be combined with the 20 second 'other' wait that you have while the drive 'spools up')

Make the crappy SRV handle better so it doesn't trip over every single rock, or spin in a circle every time you press above half throttle (p.s. it's actually faster when you travel in reverse - try it). Says it all.

Get rid of stupid solo kill missions that pay 2 million credits for 90-130 kills that I can GUARANTEE YOU that nobody is taking because they take approx. 3 hours to complete in a max engineered end game ship.

Get rid of stupid solo kill PIRATE missions that pay 2 million credits for 60-70 kills because you can never actually find this many pirates from the correct faction to kill in a period of.. oh id say around 4-5 days of playing time.

Make the 3 material traders into one so you don't have to spend half your time roaming around the map every time you want to do even a single engineering upgrade (that's once you've figured out the actual materials you will need from Inara) - takes me around 1 hour each time through tabbing out etc. Pointless.

Get rid of the ridiculous and unachievable 10000 WEEKLY merits grind for powerplay max level (and all levels in between)

Lose the stupid 5 hour in game flying around pointlessly timer for a notoriety of LEVEL ONE!! and all levels above this.

Put a filter in both the missions screen, and outfitting (stored modules) tabs to sort through items.

Make it so that you can engineer items from storage (not just those fitted to your ship).

Increase payouts for community goals missions - have not made a single profit from these due to creds lost via getting killed from griefers while participating. P.s. please don't bother telling me to learn how to fit my ship either.. a PvP build is not the same as a PVE build.

Bring in a medium sized ship with decent cargohold (think python is currently one of the best for this.. but tops out at around 260tonnes). I'm thinking a medium hauler or passenger ship with more like 500 of space..

I have to run now but this is the obvious stuff that comes to mind without giving it too much thought. Will come back and edit it later to add to my list.
N.b. before you ask - the reason for the fascicious tone to my response is that all this stuff seems as obvious to me as a slap with a red mullet, so if Fdev actually cared about their player base most this stuff woulda been changed already. i.e. not holding my breath. Kudos to OP for trying though.

Way too much sense in one post +1 commander o7

^^ this. It's amazing how many people don't understand this simple concept.

Ive played Warfarm (back when it took me 255 boss kills to unlock a character), Ive played FFXIV (As well as a handful of the singleplayer titles), Ive played Guild Wars 2, The Witcher 3 and Dark Souls and a few other games that you could step back and see, that's a bit of a grind. It doesn't really matter if its there, it only matters if the majority of the playerbase notice or care.

1. Some players grind
2. Some players don't.
3. Some players grind and enjoy it.
4. Some players grind and hate it.

Bad luck if you belong to the 4th category. Question arises, why are you doing it anyway, though?

It gives them something to moan in the forum about, breaking up the monotony of their chosen playstyle.

Denying that this game has issues will not help improve it.

I don't think anyone denys that the game has issues and gameplay needs to be improved. But choosing to do the same gameplay repeatedly in a row when you don't really need to just seems like the wrong thing to do if you don't enjoy it.

This so much. Supercruise could be at least 2x-3x the speed.

And especially when leaving a station and need to go somewhere else in the system, leaving a planet's gravity well is just insanely boring. I never do "in-system" missions because of this.

FE2 did it better and with no instancing.

GRIND; the insistence on forcing yourself to do the same thing repeatedly making it a joyless task in order to race to a non-existent finish-line. There are no trophies for grinding.

And before anyone cries "the game forces me" I would remind them it doesn't. Timescale is your choice, not Frontier's. They cannot give a hoot if you make Elite Explorer, get that Cutter or unlock Engineers in an hour, in a month or in 10 years.

The key to not grinding in Elite is VERY simple. If you are doing something more than once and it isn't fun, stop. Do something else. The end. Solved. That is all. Move along. Nothing to see here....

Like this. Ignore it folks. It's useless and unhelpful. We need to accept people will chip in with this nonsense just to add noise. Just ignore them and hopefully they will get bored and go away.

Sure. Why don't you go focus on the positives then. As the OP suggests this thread is intended for identifying a solution to the negatives. Thank you for your input. Bye.

Maybe the solution is to focus on the positives.

Complaining isn't compulsory.

The problem is that RNGineers has become the game.

Engineers are, by design, now linked to pretty much every activity in the game.
