Which ship to buy if you already have the 3 big Cs?

So, is there any reason to buy and engineer any of the other smaller ships (except the fun factor)? Is there any ship which can do anything better than one of the 3 big Cs?

Since you already outruled the only possible reason (fun)... No. There isn't.

If solely for pragmatic reasons, I would say Python because it can take high paying missions to outposts.
Some gold rushes may also involve docking at outposts, so you lose out with the big 3.

For medium size - all rounder: Python.

For small size - Adder. With engineering she can jump over 30 LYs, awesome for data runner / rares. Also, small cargo has its worth, there's something appealing in cargo runs with only 22t.

I'm restructuring my fleet in 3.0.

I had the Vette for combat, Cutter as freighter and Conda as miner. The Vette stays what is is, it just got better with the new G5 engineering. The T9 got buffed to Cutter level cargo capacity, so I got that as trader now. T10 takes the job as miner. 4 mining lasers, great visibility and still 5 hardpoints for defense as well as better shields than the Conda. Conda will be refitted to an explorer/ratting ship with 60ly jump range. I already have a Beluga as luxury liner, which finally doesn't overheat anymore thanks to thermal spread FSD mod. The Cutter will get 70 business class passenger seats for those bulk passenger missions.

So much for the big 6. Other than that I have a cold running smuggling Python, waiting for smuggling gameplay to return to the game. Also a FdL in which I'm having a blast soloing wing assassinations, an AspE light freighter/rares hauler. Also a DBE as high jump range runabout with SRV hangar for bubble material collection. A couple of other ships with more obscure roles.

Hi guys!

As the title says, I already own a Conda, Cutter and Corvette, all fully engineered. I also have an ASP for the rare occasions when I need to land on an outpost.
I really enjoy ED right now. Doing some assassination missions here and there, fly some passenger missions and so on.

I really want to fly a new ship, but dont have any motivation to buy one. I mean, nothing comes close to my Corvette when it comes to combat. For exploration / passenger missions I have my Conda. And for trading / transport missions I have my Cutter. So, is there any reason to buy and engineer any of the other smaller ships (except the fun factor)? If you have the big 3 but don't even think about a Python.....than you did it wrong :p

your next ships will be
- Python -- mission runner/combat
- 2nd Python -- Cargo/passengers
- 3rd Python -- mining
- Cobra MK.III (MK.IV) -- multirole
- FDL -- combat
- FGS -- fun combat
- 2. Anaconda -- exploration
- Type-10 -- Thargoid research
- Chieftain -- whatever
- Vulture -- most fun combat!!

;)

I have the big ones, but use my Python almost all the time. Equipped with SRV and limpet controller+some limpets, and all the normal stuff. Flying around collecting mats from USS, RES and planets and doing some odd jobs from board on the way. Every now and then I jump to cutter or FDL or some other ship but then come back to Python.

Thanks for your replies guys! I guess it will be the Python then :D
T-10 as a mining ship sounds quite interesting to me. Did mining make a comeback or something, is it worth the time now? ^^

One of the unmentioned things about the incrased mats storage, is that synthesis is now a thing for everyone, not just PvPers. You can burn through a bunch of mats in no time engineering and synthesising, so mining makes a useful addition to everyone's game (that can tolerate the gentler pace of it - on that note, if anyone's unsure if mining is 'for them' try asking yourself this.. When/if you go on holiday, are you able to look at a mountain landscape as if it was a painting and gradually gain a sense of awe & euphoria from the experience? Or is that 'boring' and u want to head to a bar interminably shouting 'w00000' while pouring sangria in your eyes. If its the latter, you'd TL;DR'd this post way back, you wouldnt know what 'latter' means, and mining definitely isnt for you)

Painite sells for 130k+ in the right places now, so more money is made, and you get a shedload of easy mats at a pristine metallic near a res site. A t10 lets u put more mining lasers on while maintaing combat effectiveness, more to the point u can stick it on hold-position, with some turrets on the top, and jump in an SLF to deal with any pirates that come along. That way mining is profitable for mats & money, and great fun.

Vette makes a better miner.

If you want more fun with Exploration, try an Asp or even DBX. I find the brick-like SC handling of the Conda a total brain killer when exploring.

Beware the Python, you end up flying nothing else.

Take one, it's dangerous to go alone CMDR

I can't decide clearly. If I had to, I'd go for the Python. I tried (and own) several ships, but none of the three superheavies yet. Many ships are very distinct and quite fun to fly.

- The FAS, an agile hull tank that's fun in CZ and Hazres
- The Vulture, shield tank, for the same reason
- The Python means freedom. It can do everything quite well.
- The T-9, for its bulky pregnant-whale flying style
- The DBX, for hella quick-travel (you need 10 jumps, I need one..)
- The Dolphin for its slick appearance and its special sound (it sounds like tortured Banshee when boosting)

Yet to try: T-10, Chieftain, the big 3, Orca, Beluga, FDL, some few small ships, imperial ships

Try PVP, you will notice (when not in wing) that the big 3 are the worst ships to manage a fight against a human opponent

I've seen a guy in a Cutter fight an FDL and a Corvette that were waiting for him ~15km from the station he had just un-docked from at the same time and win, after killing them both, he did succumb to the station guns.

Have you got 10M Cr ? https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...a-gem-of-a-quot-game-play-quot-Silent-Running :D

Chieftain for immense pew-pew fun.
Raw DPS can't match the big three, but it's way more fun to delivery the DPS in style.

iCourier with heckin' zoomer drives for wheeeeeee fun.
Everyone needs a ship that'll boost to 800+ for giggles. Hell, stick some weapons on it and harrass people if you want. You can almost outrun plasma rounds, LOL.

DBX, stripped down for insane jump range.
Taking the tedium out of materials gathering; It's not fun by itself but it sure does remove most of the tedious jumping when your're bouncing around the bubble. I'm up to 66LY with an SRV which means nothing is really more than four hops away in the bubble.
