Couldn't bring myself to login

I'm just back from a 1-year break myself. I just didn't make a big deal about it. Lost interest in the game, had other things to do - happens.

What sets ED apart from all other games I ever played - whenever I stopped playing a game, I never really picked it up again. Maybe for a few hours, for nostalgia's sake, but no more. ED is different. I took 2 breaks of each 10-12 months now. But after a while, I missed "flying out there" and came back to add another few hundred hours to my record.

Last night, I watched several videos from Obsidian Ant (highly recommended to anybody not following him on YouTube yet). 3 videos stood out: his latest report on Star Citizen, and his 2 videos where he's comparing ED 2018 to his 10 biggest expectations in 2015.

These 3 videos made me a lot more grateful towards ED. Yes, the game can still be considered flawed in many respects, and development progress may be slow.

But there has been a lot of progress. And contrary to SC (and other games like Infinity: Battlescape), ED already delivers a lot of very athmospheric gameplay that, in general, works very well.

It's easy to forget that over all the criticism and disappointment about the potential that remains untapped (yet). I will probably take another timeout from ED in a couple of weeks or months. But I'm also sure I will be back. The fascination is too strong.

So ye - spent the whole week sitting at my computer.. and 'nearly' logging in to play Elite D. The only problem is - everytime i planned to play the game.. I COULDNT BRING MYSELF TO EVEN LOG IN.

The sad truth is that this game feels so much like a boring and endless job in an office, that after i got home from work.. i just couldnt do it!

I did finally manage to bring myself to log in today, and I spent couple hours in the game basically sitting in station then did a bit of mining. But honestly - most of the time i was watching youtube videos, listening to the radio or even watching TV while alt-tabbing. After couple hours, i'd had enough.

Ill be taking (another) year or two break from the game now, and ill come back in a couple of years to see if FDevs started listenin to the playerbase by then.. but judging by their track record; i seriously doubt it.

Sad really. Cya.

And no. U cant haz my stuffs ;-)

A lot of people experienced this - you think you'll play ED as your imagination gets the better of you. Then reality kicks in and you have to load it up - then the thing you want to do means you have a ton of jumps to waste time doing or you have to search for a ship part and the more you think about it, trying to find something fun in the game the more bored you feel until you do something else 10 minutes later.

I just can't bring myself to watch the new Blade Runner film despite everyone telling me how great it is. "NO!" I always respond, "The original was a masterpiece! You don't touch a masterpiece!"

Really? I'm counting the hours until I can log in again - neofabrics! I've spent the past 6 months flying around with a giant interdiction target on account of a hold full of meta-alloys and finally neofabrics are available again (praise be 3.0.4?), I can unlock & outfit some crcr, find me a gunner, and off to die a flowery death! OK, maybe it was only a week or two, but chain interdictions do make time pass differently.

You must have 1000s of hours in the game... maybe by that time I'll be bored to? But aside from arena style FPS (which exist as a social, boredom, backup entertainmenrt, I've already logged more hours in ED than any other game and I still feel like there's loads more to see and do - I can barely keep pace with content from updates... unlocked 2 new items from 3.0 (6 more to go?), only re-engineered 2 of my pitiful 'fleet' of small/medium size ships, still not had a chance to buynfly a chieftain, designed but not finished a new cool running crime ship to see how notoriety feels, havn't even started Ram's new mission... have I missed anything?

I've put in maybe 30 hours and have pretty much seen everything that was available at the time - non horizons. The main issue being the content is pretty much all the same. I don't ever need to "do" a passenger mission for example because I've done it just without a passenger (I've flown places).

Same for Engineering - why bother doing something that makes my shields even stronger and my weapons - what exactly am I expecting to attack me, Galactus?

The only positive of Engineers is the FSD boost and only because space flight is so boring and it makes it less.

The game is pretty much the same thing wherever you go - go kill some AI - it's no different if the AI is labelled a "pirate" or a "bounty hunter" they're all exactly the same. Trading is the same as passengers, get from point A - drop at point B - get paid. These are reasons people have issues.

Is this your average of whining posts? Once per day?

So you can't play Elite any more and you'd rather spam the forums with your dislike for it?

Find something better to do with your time because this criticism is not constructive.

30 hours and have seen everything, a very credible base to produce expert opinions from. I bet you’ve spent more time logged into the forums of the game than the actual game as well :D

See you in a few years.
Also, there is more than one playerbase. That's one reason why some people will always feel like the devs are not listening. Always. :D

What drew me to this game when I first bought it was the idea of just exploring the galaxy and discovering systems all over the galaxy. I did bounty hunting (I find combat extremely boring) when I first started the game ONLY to make enough money to buy an ASPX (This was the easiest way to get money I found when first starting). As soon I bought an ASPX I went off exploring. I got so much enjoyment of getting Discovered by tags and seeing planets I know nobody else will even see.

I earned Elite in exploration and decided to come back to Sol to check out all the engineering stuff. I then started a grind to unlock them all and buy tons of ships and make a combat build and trading build and recently I just became unmotivated to do any of that. It was tough for me to even log in because I knew what the grind was going to entail. 2 days ago I decided to just take off again and continue my exploration and INSTANTLY started to enjoy the game again just like when I first started to explore.

Welp that's my story of really the only thing that gets me excited to come back to the game. Good thing this galaxy is as big as it is or I would of just uninstalled it.

Yeah that's me too. I can't wait for this evening to get home from work, finish the decorating by 9, have a quick shower and hit Elite for the final leg to Beagle Point.

It outlines how I think the game is lacking- because you don't like what you hear does not make it uncontructive, unlike your troll post above.

Obviously I have since I just told you how much of the game I played - are you saying my posts are wrong - care to point out where I'm incorrect?

It seems I know the game better than some people that have been playing the game for the last 3 years.

Edit - I should point out that I did log in recently to help out that guy with Cancer due to those griefers but I was way too far away to get there in time which was a month or 2 ago. But that was only for a few hours of gameplay.

So do i get this right?
.
- The OP doesn't log in. (Not being in the mood for a game is a common thing. I play several games which i sometimes pause for a few weeks, to then return with new enthusiasm. )
- The OP doesn't see other people logged in.
- This results in the OP concluding that nobody is playing.
.

I’ve got the exact opposite problem to OP. I can’t bring myself to log out. It’s been four years now and I’ve not been able to play any other game. Bar the fact that Elite Dangerous is by far the best game I’ve ever played, I don’t know what the issue is. Maybe some kind of hypnosis going on during the hyperspace loading screen :) ?
