The CG that was flawed from day 1

Hello FDev and CMDRs

When reading about the CG before it started I was kinda interested in what FDev were going to do for "pitting us against each other" and first thing that came to my mind was ofcourse it will be a Empire vs Federation CG. Then yesterday it hit looking it up on mission bored aaannnnddd then completly faceplanted my keybored. You made it Federation vs Independent...... like really guys come on. After first 5-6 hours mostly everyone has picked the Federation side and so they are pushing through quickly almost hitting T4 in around 18-20 hours while the Independent side has not even hit T1 yet.

So tell me again please where is the competition you talked about FDev that whole "pitting us against each other" its more like the fat kid has sat on the sea-saw lol when looking at the numbers on each side. The Federation side have what 4x the amount of contributors to the independent side. So now one side is out right going to win and everyone who has not signed up for the CG will ofcourse go for the winning side and everyone gets there free decals while the poor souls on the Independent side get sweet nothing.
In the sight yeah thats how a competition works one wins one looses but id go a long way to say its a competition its more look join this side and you get free stuff. By the end of this CG i think mostly everyone will have the decal and the people on the other side will have to wait till next time to get it.

So how to improve on this idea and make it truely a competition.

1. Keep it like this current CG but have it Empire vs Federation...... To me this would of been best idea as we know there are Empire only people and same goes for Federation numbers will be maybe more even on both sides.
(in a small thought of mine since this is PvP well its ment to be LOL higher bounds off of killing players)

2. Make a single CG and you must make it into the top 25% to get your free decal ect. This is probably the easiest way to fix it.

Its such an easy fix to make these CGs a real fight for your free stuff. Not hand in xxx.xxx amount of crds to get into Top100% then leave and wait for your free stuff thats not a competition FDev......

Also just a little heads up I havent even join in on this CG. Ill wait till next time when its more competitive :)

thats the lot i guess....

I too think they should hide the progress until the CG finishes. Who is going to join the losing side if the winning side can't be caught up to?

Its all just 'text'. There's no "Empire vs Independent' as there's no real consequences involved. It might as well be called "Trump vs Putin" or "Pepsi vs Coke" or "Bell vs Braben".... Its a 'Managers' attempt to add content where there is none, the smallest most cost effective way of adding 'content' for the least amount of outlay, nothing more than a tick on someone's spreadsheet.... Someone will need to write the following code and 'design' a sticker. That's it. Dull, unimaginative, management durge.

If on_winning_side then sticker=1 Else sticker=0

PS: I'm available for Bar Mitzvahs, Corporate Events & Children's Parties.

plenty of time OP.
When the CGs were first used competively back in 2015 for Lough, in the Combat Zone round, the Feds took a heavy lead. Then everyone switched sides to the Indys.

Does anybody else think that this decal/CG reward thing is an attempt to increase flagging player hours?

OT: can't we just do o e side of the CG then the other to get both decals? Weird huh.

I can't recall when I last did a CG, maybe one to get a decal in a beta test sometime ago last year, but then I'm picky on which decals to put on my ships - always my DWE, Elite Explorer decals.

I just don't find doing CG's interesting enough to tear me away from any targets/goals I set myself.

The new community goals in plan are likely going to be very random, but I wish they could just bring back community submissions for their own player groups!

I agree with OP's suggestions but I don't think the CG is a complete failure. I had a lot of fun in a CZ with a wing last night, which IMO is what it's for.

I like this CG. My only complaint is Frontier picked a system that was already in the middle of civil war, so there are too many CZs, most of which have nothing to do with CG.

I suspect this was planned at least month ago. They couldn't see that far if there will be a war there.

Poor excuse.
Yes, FD did need time to prepare the decal assets, text, etc.

Then all they needed to do is find an appropriate system to implement it in at the time.
One with a Civil War State pending, but only for two factions.
Implement the CG, and trigger the state.

If FD don't have the internal tools to query and do that then we have bigger problems.

One suggestion to alleviate the issue would be to use the SC target info panel better.
When a CZ is targetted in SC, show the sides in that panel.

Yes you can go have some fun with and meet other players like with most combat CGs. The part im pointing at as a complete failure is that it was ment to be competitive.

Agreed it could swing back in coming days its just how quickly? If in under 24hrs one side has hit T4 and the other not even T1 it will need to swing quickly

Is the faction needed to progress in the cg spawning now?

I've spent half an hour yesterday hopping from one cz to the other and none of those had the natural state faction I had to fight for.

As far as I can see you get the same decal no matter what side wins, just you have to be on the winning side? Really if it's Imperial vs Federation, there should be a particular one for each and the winning side gets theirs and make people want to choose which one they want.

so simple, yet so effective.
But I'm sure you'd have a slew of people complaining about not seeing their progress.

I bet the stat's for participation in this week's CG (both numbers and time spent in-system) compared to the average would make for interesting reading.

As for the decals, I bet somebody at FDev thought "Aha! We don't want people to be able to get both decals by working for both sides so we'll just give a decal to the winning side!" without really considering the bandwagon-jumping that's likely to ensue in a bid to attain a decal.

Personally, I'd prefer it if they just let people have both decals rather than risk mucking up the outcome of the CG.

Must admit, I'm working for the goodies in this one but it's only 'cos my lawful Corvette was nearest the CG.
If it'd been my outlaw Corvette, I'd have been working for the Cartel.
