MATERIAL TRADERS FILTER in Galaxy map IS COMPLETE USELESS

I'd like to add that it's not only counterintuitive that this specific galaxy map filter works differently, it also doesn't add anything of value to the gameplay. It's basically forcing you to play battleship when all you want to do is talk to some npc.

You're exactly right about it being counterintuitive. It's really not the best idea from a design perspective to introduce random elements to already well-understood systems, such as a particular map filter delivering different functionality to the other filters.

I wasn't able to see if this is really working as FDev intended it to be in the thread (and I didn't want to believe that anybody would come up with something like this) so I searched the bugs forum and as a closing reply to this bug report

Hello Commanders

This is indeed working as intended so I'm closing this bug report, but please do leave your feedback in the suggestions or main forum discussions.

I have tried the method of going to system descriptions, and clicking on the stations.

It. Does. Not. Work.

So, I went to Inara, selected all the ports with traders in them, and flew to every single one, and docked there. Opened the trader in Contacts. That did work. They now showed on the map.

I did this for every trader within forty light years of my home port.

There is no raw materials trader for eighty light years. :(

I have now completed a part of my personal journey. :(

Thanks, Space Loaches!

80ly is only four jumps. Less than a five minute thing.

Now I understand, sorry not to be the good player who will always read the entire changelog, at the begining I wanted to keep my ships with the old engineered module from 2.4, but then after a certain time I tried to update them to the last version and with all the tons of G5 materials that I have, I started to look for these traders on the map filter and yeah at my surprise there weren't a single one in the galaxy where all other map filters were working perfectly.

I mean what the hell is wrong with these devs who put the exact same options on a filter but having 2 totally different rescritions, and of course without telling us anything in the game not even a little warning.
Now this is sure FD dev don't play their own game eh.

Maybe when FDEV play their game they know how to do it.

I give 3 stones, you give 2 sticks of wood.

I'm sorry, is this the stone age again? Why can't we even buy those mats? Why can't we bargain or threaten the trader to get a better trading rate? Why can't we trade between players and friends at a MUCH better trading rate? Why do those traders even exist, really?...

Oh, right, gameplay.

This ^^

And I´d love the option to rob those pesky mat traders. They don´t deserve better. They clearly abuse their monopoly, on a free market these change rates wouldn´t be possible. I´d rob the last piece of sulphur from them, to hell, I´d even smash all their dishes in their home, enslave their families and sell them to Robigo Mines.

The mats trader filter in Galaxy map shows you -for example- an Encrypted Material Trader
- if you have already visited him
- if he is not more than 40 LJ away from you
See paragraph "Materials Trader" in: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/409098
This is complete senseless! Because:

You can find any mats trader easiest everywhere in Galaxy if you
- Filter for the Economy - then open system map with the economy you filtered and check the station services.
* For Raw Material Trader filter Extraction/Refinery systems.
* For Manufactured Material Trader filter Industrial systems.
* For Encrypted Material Trader filter Military/High-Tech systems.
The only issue here is, that you
- must be able to open the system map (visited the system already or buy/bought the systems data)
to check the station services.

This way you find a Material trader for the materials you like, even if he is 200LJ or more away from you.

So if you now think: "THE MATERIAL TRADERS FILTER in Galaxy map IS USELESS", then you're totally right.

This filter would be NOT useless, if it show ALL the filtered Mat Traders every time, no matter if you already visited or not
and no matter how far away he is from you. This would make sense.
But atm with those limitations to the 40LJ and that you must already had visited the trader - there is no sense behind this filter.

And since we are on it, lets nerf the filters. Economy, state and everything else only 40ly anymore and only if you've visited the system in the last 24h :D:D:D

Oh, right, gameplay.

Corrected that for you ;)

40LY leaves the filter virtually worthless. I'm sure everyone is using INARA to locate these.
I'm tired of minimizing the game (only one monitor atm) every time I need to find one.
Either remove the 40LY limit entirely or make it 200LY or something wide like that.

Yes, yes it is.

The Services Filter is completely broken and has been since the day it first appeared in 3.0 Beta 1!

I filed three separate bug reports for each of the three Beta versions, but never got a reply from FDEV to any of them. And of course, all the issues I was seeing way back on day one of the 3.0 Beta are still there today.

Needless to say, I have been using the INARA search page whenever I need to track down a trader.

I believe there response to the bug reports were to say "working as intended." It's intentional that you can't see services until you visit the system, and that you can only see them within a 40ly radius.

And that, by itself, is enough to get a jury to convict Frontier.
