"Elite" NPC baddies still falling into the star/planet

I'd post the videos, but it wouldn't change anything. It ruins mah imerzion when NPCs, esp. Elite NPCs, do newb things like that. [Not really, but I still find it annoying/sad]

I'm Elite in exploration and been playing the game since March 3302. I still do newb stuff like this.

Immurshun retained.

"Elite" NPCs are "Elite" in combat/ship handling, nothing else...How do you not know this....?

Do you even Elite: Dangerous? I'm verrrry suspicious about you...

I see '1 new contact. 1 contact lost' in the status window constantly without ever seeing an NPC appear. It seems like most of them immediately fly into the body they spawn next to? I don't mean mission-specific ones, just like, most NPCs...

Is that what you're referring to?

Yeah, does replace possible tension with comedy instead...

On a slight tangent, I like how the named NPCs that come after you in a mission keep the same ship type, but often change their ship name between failed interdictions. I had NPC two nights ago that changed his Anaconda's name 4 times. He stopped when I switched ships and took his ship away... boom.

Well, I was being completely out flown by a mostly harmless cobra yesterday. I don’t know if it was dumb luck or me overthinking but I haven’t seen evasive maneuvering like that from anyone!

I use it to my advantage, cutting close to stars and/or planets so the morons fly right into them when they’re after my “tasty cargo”.

They’re as bad as TIE Fighter pilots.

Ummmm... The point being that it's not unrealistic that NPC's who are supposed to be skillful with ship handling should make mistakes every so often, especially when human players who are similarly skilled at explicitly not hitting planets (hence the exploration link), still go ahead and hit planets and stars from time to time.

But I'm sorry to say that if you're seeing human like behaviour coming from an AI as immersion breaking, your immersion is already broken to see them as AI in the first place. ;)
