Guardian power plant vs engineered power plant

So I've been playing with the Guardian weapons and they seem pretty tasty. However, on paper I'm less sure about the guardian power plant. It sounds like you get more power at the expense of weight and heat, which is much the same as what happens when you engineer a power plant. So is it worth having?

I could be wrong, but my understanding is they are supposed to be similar. You can either get a regular power plant and invest time in engineering it, or if you just wanted extra power instead of lower heat, etc, then you can essentially bypass the engineering and pay extra for the guardian one.

My gr 5 A8 overcharged powerplant has better power output plus run cooler with that termal sec effect against its A8 guardian counterpart....so answer is no.This guardians modules and weapons are only very effective agains Thargoids(guardian powerplant cant be shoutdown). How ever guardian powerplant is very handy when you need on thefly to test some high power moded weapons, saving you time to mod classic poweplants and looking for materials.

Ah, now that I didn't realize.. Might be handy.

weapons are only very effective agains Thargoids

I haven't done any formal comparison, but the Guardian plasma charger seems, on paper to compare well with a normal C2 PA. (Thanks to Truesilver for the table)

Of course that's before engineering... I also don't know the exact effect of fully charging the guardian weapon etc.. One thing not shown in these figures is the projectile speed. The guardian weapon seemed easier to use last night when I was trying it and I had the impression that it was quicker. Two of them on a test ship took down an elite PVE Conda very quickly. I'm sure others have put much more thought into all this though, I've been out of the game for a while.

EDIT: Mind you..

Are you talking about the emp burst?

Edit: also didn't notice but if you mention secondary effects that means you're talking about a grandfathered engineered module, so not sure you're providing the best example for this discourse. I am curious about your shutdown claim as that's the first time I've heard about that.

So you are saying it is immune to the Thargoid power disruption tech?

Now that is interesting , one more slot for shield booster? :D

But my issue is heat eff of that power plant, my current has similar power output , but heat eff ~4.3 . Integrity feels less important as i noticed that Thargoids currently target FSD and Thrusters sometimes power distributor , before 3.0 they were sniping PP

But if its true that it is immune to shutdown field that might be interesting if someone need more shields

It's not true that the Guardian power planet can't be shut down. I was hyperdicted by Thargoids in my trader iCutter which is equipped with a Guardian power planet and the Thargoid shut down my ship with their emp pulse.

Yes its immune.Thats the purpose of that module afterall even the prize is higher than standard now.

I’m using one on my ‘vette. It was just easier than fussing around engineering a new one, and it provides lots of power. I could probably min-max with an ordinary PP and some engineering, but it’d be a tiny percentage, nothing I care about.

So for me it’s just convenience.

As a result of video, Guradian PP doesn't have protection against shutdown field. Thank you a lot for the provided proof

Perhaps once the rumored Guardian Power Distributor is available, if the two are used together, you might be protected from the EMP.

If not, I think they're both a waste. If you don't have access to G5 Powerplant Engineering (which is not that hard to unlock), then I guess the Guardian PP is worth it. For those that do, it's just overpriced junk.
