PvP Tournament - Every Sunday

It's a good thing we are doing this. This is exactly the kind of thing we should be testing for in beta. :)

I am all up for another go next week if there's an update addressing multiplayer connectivity.

Much as PvP isn't my bag, I too think it's excellent you are all testing this and noting problems with matchmaking/networking/whatever while trying to have some fun.

Hopefully some of you had action you enjoyed, and good luck for the next update.

Sorry about that first kill Nemesis with your hull already at 1% from your railgun joust with Driss. I just couldn't resist! But we can say that one didn't count.

While I may have said "Oh bother!" I couldn't blame you. Exactly how long would I have lasted with 1% and no shields anyway??? :D

I'm not into PvP myself but like what you are trying to do here. Perhaps if it is successful FD might eventually take note and create an official venue for these events that become part of the lore.

Premiere League football started pretty much the same way. A few teams getting together and establishing themselves over time.

Later on when multiple ships are available, I might even keep a sidey aside for an event like this. I currently get my PvP kicks from War Thunder but in the future, who knows.

OK I'm currently counting 12 server and I've joined them all with no luck.

I think ED is possible the worlds first MSO - massively single player online game ....

Well, I think the grouping certainly has some room for improvement. I had max. 2 players if any. Also got bounty and was attacked by federation fighters, although I had reporting off.

Had some funny encounters, mostly with Nemesis. :D

Anyone else noticed you have to refill the ammo you used on your old ship on the new one?

I would like to see NPC faction wars that players can sign up for as mercenaries and be given missions. Those missions could be to attack a certain location or installation at a specific time, and players on the other side would be tasked to defend it. That will bring enemy combatants together and give them a meaningful cause to fight for and gain credits and reputation.

I'm not keen on pvp arenas, or pvp specific venues. They seem too gimmicky to me. I know that's what we've pretty much tried with today's event, but until there are actual 'causes' to fight for there aren't many options open other than mindless mayhem at the moment.

I agree. Structure would be more fun.

a group chat would be a good start ;)

and as i mentioned further: do the pvp at the lp82 extractions site, no need to turn crime reporting off. (it will ALWAYS happen one has it not off and he will report every other player ^^).

joining a ts-server together could be useful too.

Same from here. One, maybe two players and generally the same ones even after full exit of the launcher and coming back to different servers.

Thanks for the match cakefan. :D

Nemesis you gotta share your tricks. I never out turned you in a dogfight. Were you flying flight assist off?

FA off, using thrusters in the turn and changing pips between engines and shields when they aren't needed on one or the other. Makes a big difference and if you aren't using gimbals you need to make that turn!

Well I saw 10 people max when in supercruise all evening.
No one at the extraction site.
Wondering if location has anything to do with it. I´m playing in Spain.
Happy to try again next week though.

While that was fun, I would hate for such events or arenas to become the best way to do PvP. E: D is an MMO, and not having the chance to do PvP out in the open would make for a dull experience.

Let's remember what happened in WoW when Battlegrounds (arena PvP) was introduced. PvP servers which used to thrive with open-world PvP (not ganking or griefing like some here would like to think) became barren PvE worlds. Everyone went to arenas because it was the quickest and easiest way to PvP.

Within days of introduction of arenas, open world PvP all but disappeared. I would hate to see that happen in E: D.

There's lots more discussion on arenas in this thread.

I whole heartedly agree. :)

Figures. :D I fly like a drunk with FA off and let my energy distribution stay at balanced way too often. Time to train more in combat scenarios.

I'd like that too. I've played a bit of Hawken's siege mode; whilst it is an arena shooter, more complex objective based modes make for rewarding team play and can support a background story. Basically the teams compete to collect energy which launches battleships, upon which the action switches to protecting one's battleship by holding a defensive missile launcher. It could be applied to ED, scaled up, across two warring systems; traders bring resources which permit shipyards to launch assault ships, which must be escorted through hyperspace then through a defense grid at the target. Would be good for weekend special events...

If we can all get on a shared channel to coordinate, the fight club I described above is a little more structured.

Personally I hope these events lead to the development of a rich set of combat tactics. Both fights I was in turned into turning fights resolved by someone making a mistake, then whoever had the best railgun aim.

Seeing one or twp people. Couple of OK fights. PLEASE turn off crime reporting. Now I have Fed Fighters after me. :(

Now there's a good point.. remember to turn your crime reporting back on :)

It's shame it didn't work out, but at least I got a bit of dosh for killing some NPCs, hopefully enough to cover my downgrade to Sidewinder.

I doubt if I'll manage it next Sunday. The Fantasticon going to busy up my weekend a bit.

But please keep my name on the list just in case.

We should probably figure out a lawless place to meet daily, like somewhere close to Freeport, accessible for everyone.

By daily I mean we can just 'assign' the place a spot for meet-ups and hopefully have some fun. I'd be happy even if I find someone to chat with...

Anyways, how do you end up in the same instance?

In any case, count me in - CMDR BFNK

I'm pretty sure it does. In Germany FWIW, and I kept seeing M3SS3NGER and Nemesis T. Saw DrunkenTeddy once in SC.DAIS

Good fights though. One lost quickly to Nemesis, then I forgot to check the weapons in the insurance screen, arrived at the RES to discover I had no weapons, back to Dahan Gateway, only weapons going were a C2 Cannon and Railgun. I bought those and jigged module power priorities so I would not trip the Sidey's circuit breakers by deploying hardpoints, got M3SS3NGER on the ropes before Nemesis cleaned up, but I had a choice between powering sensors and life support and the emergency O2 cylinder isn't refilled by turning LS back on. So I wasn't at my best. Had fun, look forward to next time.
