OK Imps, sell me on the Clipper (for PvE piracy in particular)

I've got rank and cash available. Is a Clipper a good purchase? I like the Python's internals better, but I've already got one of those so why not try something new? How fast/manoeuvrable is it compared to the Python? Is it any good at pinching LTDs from hapless NPCs?

The Clipper makes a wonderful pirate ship. Much much better than the Python. Think of it like this, the Python is a box truck and the Clipper is a Ferrari.

Is there anything to sell here? If you'er asking, you are interested, you know you want to know if it's worth it, you know you'll buy it anyway accepting the small loss if it doesn't live up to your expectations. =)

Side note....we need a spaceship rental service to try it before you buy it.

This does have something of a ring of truth about it. But I keep being distracted by other shiny things. I started doing a speed/combat courier build but haven't finished it. I've also got a hankering to put DD5 PA thrusters on my sidey just for the lulz.

I will sell you on a Python for Piracy. Better shields, more hardpoints, better hardpoint convergence. DD5 fast as you need.

If you don't already know stealing LTD's from NPC's is just shield tanking, you have to shoot them just once and really quickly after Interdiction otherwise they will H-Jump out.
Then they will stay in the instance attacking you. Use Hatch Breakers and Collector limpets while shield tanking.

I started PVP Piracy in a Clipper and upgraded to a Python.

This, I'm afraid.

The best possible sales-pitch for an iClipper is only ever going to be "Look, it's almost as good as a Python in a lot of ways, if you want to fly something other than a Python".

I just bought another Python, specifically for questionable uses.
My iClipper remains parked in my scrapyard in Tionisla.

The Clipper makes a good ship for sneaking illegal stuff past station security. As well as a half decent cargo capacity, its speed and manoeuvrability make it easier to get quickly and cleaning into the docking bay before the po-po can scan you.

Are you a sheep or a wolf? Sheep fly engineered Pythons, forgetting what fun ever was, wolves fly Clippers, and blaze their own trail.....

The Clipper is about FUN.
I own everything and I have a A-graded maxed out Python, Anaconda and Cutter sitting in storage.
Once you’re past the point in the game where progression is your main goal, then fly the ship that’s most enjoyable to you.

For me that’s the Clipper.
Insane speed, agility and boost speed. It can dogfight and stay on the tail of much smaller ships and can hull tank as well.

Its only real issue is the lack of medium pad ability.

Yeah. And the rental service should make you pay a deposit on the ship in case it gets destroyed or you don't bring it back, and the deposit would be reimbursed (minus the rental fee) when you return the ship. Oh, wait . . .

Ever seen a Ferrari get over speed bumps? Speed ain't everything, dakka - dakka does have a powerful effect though. MC's on a Python, Frags on the Clipper. Yarrrr.

The Clipper is a nice ship but its drawbacks are really bad.

1) The horrendous hardpoint placement effectively restricts you to gimballed weapons, which makes PvP a poor proposition (although not impossible, it's just a negative)

2) The large landing pad requirement hamstrings your ability to run missions since you can never land at outposts

You either have to work around these problems or find a role which isn't affected by them.

Engineered python can reach stock clippers speed without the drift. Engineered clipper now goes too fast and single boost overshoots target by 2km. The problem with clipper is the class 6 power destributer barely sustains its large hardpoints and rather than an efficient quick kill, your jousting which is albeit survivalist way but inefficient way to kill enemies. You end up engineering this ship just to compensate for what python does stock A-rated already but then you engineer a python and you wonder what is the bloody point of a clipper anymore.

Agreed.

Clipper has the legitimate volume that it should be able to support more cargo than python, maybe even slf. Also more surface area that it boggles my mind why they didn’t give it 6 utility slots, which would fix its inherent shield problem. Or they could just leave everything alone and make it medium! Still keep mine to explore in but that is about it until it gets fixed.
