Exactly how big of a cushion should I give myself for an Anaconda? (Also need general Conda Advice)

Having one rebuy is ok, having two means less stress. And it's not that difficult to secure enough credits for the rebuys. For example - iCourier bouncing between Sothis and Ceos for an hour, delivering data = ~22M.

What's more, you stated you'll fly in Solo - I don't see much danger from that. You can win interdiction attempt in Anaconda easily, so no threat from here. Passenger missions... maybe when wanted people and being scanned at station. Anaconda isn't the best one for fast mailslotting. But again, there are other tricks to avoid scans.

OP, do not worry much, with your current build set that 18M as a bottom line and you're set.

Learn to fly it. Take it to an asteroid belt, 4 pips to shields and learn how it handles at different speeds. Decent shields with 4 pips will help when you get it wrong. Weave though slowly, roll, pitch, yaw, get a feel for it. There's no point having all the money in the world if you can't fly the damn thing.

Be careful with your first trip through the mailslot. The conda bridge is on the top of the ship, so aim high. If you try to go through the middle like you would on a small ship that huge bulge on the belly is going to catch on the cattle grate.

Yo thanks for this!!

I have never heard this advice before so I went back and watched a few review videos and sure as hell they all aimed for the top of the mailslot. I have no idea how I never noticed that before. I would have 100% gone through the middle like I usually do.

Thanks! (I'd rep you if I could, but apparently I need to rep other people first)

Couple of rebuys should be enough to keep you out of trouble;

My advice is to arm it lightly - even if it's just to put two large and two medium pulse turrets on the top deck to swat away anything small before it nibbles through the shields. I wouldn't recommend flying an unarmed ship when your finances provide only the minimum safety net.

That doesn't change your play style - you can still choose to run as a default option. It's just nice to have some basic defences that can pick off smaller/faster ships.

Also, do you have the powerplay rank3 required for prismatic shields yet? I don't know how long you've been playing but a lot of newer players don't realise it's rank-locked behind 3 weeks of powerplay.

If you're flying with one or two rebuys then I can't understand that at all, because you make one or two mistakes and then you have to sell your ship? What's the point. Just fly something cheaper. The big three aren't that much better than smaller ships. They are better, but not Death Star-compared-to-an-X-Wing better.

This is good advice. switch to a dirt-cheap T7 to continue passenger missions if you lose the Anaconda; The Anaconda is good but it's really not such a huge improvement over the cheaper ships unless you're going to make it a Battleconda.

Getting the Annie through the mailslot isn't that big of a deal.

Even if you screw it up, all that's likely to happen is that the belly of the ship will catch on the edge of the mailslot and you can either reverse back and try again or just thrust up a little bit and carry on through.
Doesn't do any damage or reduce your shields by much.

Worst-case scenario is that you try to fly through the mailslot sideways, diagonally, and get stuck.
If that happens you can try raising and lowering the landing gear to get unstuck (as is the case for every ship) or just quit to the main menu and have another go if you're panicking.

Simplest thing to do is fit a DC at first and then pay attention to how the DC positions the ship.
Personally, I always stick a DC in all my new ships because I'll be touring them around the engineers and all the constant landing/taking of is a faff.

On which note, be aware that the Annie is horrifically sluggish until you engineer the thrusters.
Landing on a planet's surface can lead to sudden unplanned ground/ship interface scenarios (otherwise known as crash-landings) if you're not paying attention to your altitude and rate of descent.
On high-g planets, perticularly, the Annie can fall out of the sky like a brick if you pitch or roll too far so keep the ship as flat as possible and, if all else fails, FA-off, point the nose at the sky and boost.

Also, if you're sinking most of your credits into one ship, avoid doing all the dumb stuff that you would normally do with a cheaper ship.
Avoid trying to fly it between a couple of asteroids for the yucks, boosting your FSD with a neutron star or investigating threat:5 USS's "just to have a look" until you're rich enough to not worry about losing the ship.

Don't worry I adjusted my original plan to allow me 7A thrusters. I found a honey hole last night in Aisling space that has me clearing 3-8 million per trip with no board flipping. Gonna run that a few more times today before I grab my Conda.

Then its straight to Farseer to do what I can to them and then back to the honey hole to farm it as much as possible before something changes.

You can always Cargoconda for a while or Exploraconda the road to riches. Both are cheap low risk builds.

Thats what I plan on doing. I'm gonna run bulk Passenger missions and maybe switch to cargo after a bit.

I suck at the road to riches because i get impatient and I hate having to look at my laptop every few minutes to see my next jump. (I'm on console)

Couple of years ago I lost 2 Condo’s getting out of Station forget what rebuys were but I know they hurt—- flown one since but not my favourite ship —— Cutter flies in and out like a dream

My fully a rated conda, all g5 eng on everything plus my reactive armor all my weapons and what not cost me around 680 million. My rebuy is 36 million so i would say don't just jump and get it since you got the money to just buy it, if you cant a rate it then its not time to buy it. Not being mean but i would hate for you to get it then blow up and lose it. The smart thing to do is save about 500 million up. You don't have to get the 300 mill reactive armor for the time being, that will allow you to a rate it for a little less than 400 million which leave you with 5 or 6 rebuys to be safe.

Yeah I am not gonna wait that long. I am at 200 million and that took me all the time I have spent playing the game since I refuse to use exploits. To get to 500 million would take me another month or maybe even two months if my luck in missions goes poorly. The Anaconda is the ship I have wanted since before I bought the game. I watched people using it on PC and decided that was the ship I wanted when it finally came to consoles.

And I don't need an A-Rated Conda to run simple Passenger Missions. The re-buy for my build is gonna be roughly 10 million. So giving myself a 30-50 million surplus is more than enough to cover any losses.

Thanks for the concern though.

One other thing to point out is that you want to find a station(s) that sells the ship and the most expensive modules at a discount, since the discount also applies to all your rebuys too. FSD, PP, PD, Thrusters, will add 90 million onto your costs. A 10% discount on those saves you 9 million and also half a million every rebuy. Just use EDDB/stations and search for modules you want with a Li Yong-Rui filter.

Hep OP, I think you're good to go. If you have 2-3 rebuys, and are pretty confident that the build you can afford will suit your needs while you rebuild your bank account, then go for it. A passenger Anaconda was one of the keys for me really opening up the game, afford more ships, etc. You will find yourself going back and upgrading it over time, so don't worry about A-rating everything right off the bat.

Fitting it in and out of the station isn't a big deal after you get used to it. As long as I feel like I'm going to get a haircut leaving the station, I'm on target.

Enjoy your new ship, CMDR.

Yep. Already did that. Its the Shenich system :)
