Aerofly VR

Hey guy's,

Have never been a huge fan of desktop flight simulators, worked as a remote private contractor for a few years on a A320 study sim that was being built, whilst system wise it was great, I never felt like I was flying a real aircraft, same deal with any GA sims I have tried. Combat sims like DCS seems great. Have spent many years working on professional CAE sims (A320) and spent many hours jump seating on the real A320.

A friend of mine mentioned Aerofly a few months back, I had a look at the website, the sim looked basic but I thought what the heck it supports VR give it a try.... My mind was blown, I can say hands down that this feels like being on the flight deck of an A320, what is more mind blowing is that it feels like I have my own CAE simulator in my spare room. visually it is stunning in VR, and to my surprise the main guy behind coding it is a bit of a genius, his knowledge of the aircraft is at a very high level, he has coded real aircraft systems logic that the majority of the customer base wouldn't even know was there - G/S mini, Flare law, SRS Mode, all FCU modes, C* Law

By all means it is not a study sim, the FMGS doesn't even work, but for the feeling of doing curcuits, or just hand flying using FPA in the real thing, it is stunning beyond belief. Definitely give it a try if you want to get a feeling of being on a real flight deck.

Video below obviously does not do it justice, I uploaded for testing a sound pack I am working on.

Looks nice. The sound was pretty good through my speakers as well. The have a nice selection of aircraft as well and the VR support means I will have to get this one. It's been years since I've piloted an aircraft, but the C172 would bring back some memories for sure.

A long time ago I was parking at the mall in Long Beach, CA. and as I got out I heard a couple of big radial engines. I looked around and saw a pair of planes heading down wind in the heavy haze that morning and immediately recognized one as a TBM Avenger, The second on was very familiar but I couldn't place it... Until it turned crosswind and there was no mistaking the bent wings of the Corsair! Man, I hopped in the car and beat it to the airport. By the time I got there the planes were sitting off by themselves and, as I was taking flying lessons at that time, I knew the code to get into gate near them. The pilot of the Corsair was pretty cool and gave me a walk around of it. It was just so cool, will always be a great memory of an awesome warbird.

Awesome story man.

I had to make my own sound pack for the A320, the immersion is so high, the default sounds ruined it for me. Am nearly finished with the pack, had to learn the sound engine over a few days, so am still tweaking things, it works great with a bass transducer.

777Driver how are you controlling the sim? Best to have a yoke or are the Touch controllers ok?

The real aircraft doesn't use a yoke, I'm just running a standard HOTAS setup, Thrustmaster T1600, pedals and a saitek throttle. Also a separate axis for the tiller. Touch controllers are good for clicking around flightdeck.

Aerofly is fantastic. That is the whole issue with VR. It is something that just doesn't translate to anything even when people know what you are trying to say. It is almost like talking about your dreams to people.

The clue is in the name, Virtual Reality, yet many people don't seem to have a clue what it actually is.
