I think I've realised what the problem with ED is.. Braben has lost interest and moved on?

So Frontier says they have a ten year plan, but because they aren't telling YOU what they are doing after 2018, that is the end of it.

Name me one game company that tells YOU what they are going to do in the next six years. Got to be in detail mind, because if YOU can't see it, it doesn't exist.

Maybe YOU could ask EA or Bethesda what their next big games are going to be and when they are getting released. Just think how much YOU could make on the stock market if all the big companies told YOU what they are doing in the next six years. YOU could make a few bob there, kiddo

Bay12 games goes into a lot of detail regarding future content for Dwarf Fortress. You just have to look at the current in-progress dev page to see what's currently planned and how it's all progressing. Despite being a small developer, their development still manages to put most larger developers to shame in terms of PR and communication, as anyone who has read the dev page http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/dev.html will have seen.

And by Q4, you mean 2020.

And by update, you mean new paint jobs

And by bunker, you mean the coffee shop around the corner form his flat where the cute barista always remembers his order so she must like him....

And by secret, you mean only his mother knows where he is.

I asked his mum, apparently he's here...

Bis from Arma series and something similar Egosoft from X series.

The roadmap showed from Fd it's all but a roadmap: basically it's say all and nothing so yes: it's nothing.

At best this 'ten year plan' ends at the end of 2018..

Where is the rest of it? There isn't anything beyond.. and that kiddo is the point..

At this point, we have the entire player base, many folks who are far from being low in the IQ department, but no one has been able to offer any counter to my point other than personal attacks..

I'm not here for a win, I just want ED to be awesome, that I ruffle so many feathers really is revealing.

They have an expo for what you want. If there is no info about the future of ed at the expo you have a point. Currently you dont. Last expo they outlined Beyond, now they are making beyond. Next expo they tell you what 2018 brings, then they work on that.

No.

Your contributions are universally hyperbolic suppositions based on either rubbish you've made up off the top of your head, or "steam stats" that tell a fraction of a story but you make up the rest so it fits neatly into your tin foil Dev bashing.

You clearly hate this game and it's developers. Why don't you just push off? Seriously you bring nothing of any value to the table. Not a single thing. No valid critique, no reasonable suggestions for improvement, nothing. You just spend your time bad mouthing and fake newsing your way around this forum.

So time to come fully clean, show us on the doll where the bad people touched you, or sally forth and multiply.

Cosmo doesnt hate fd or the game, he is just really really really really anxious by nature. If db doesnt talk, he is scared ed is dying. If he does talk, he is scared everything not discussed that session will never come. If stats go down, he is scared the game is dying. If it rains, he is scared the game is dying.

You have some whiny 'haters' here, but cosmo aint one of em. He is just scared.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Hey man, I love this game. Maybe thats why were so damn picky and want it to succeed.

Differences aside. Griefer, carebear, forum dads or even if youre my greatest pal in the world jockey79.

We all love this game man. Its cool we disagree.

But this is what I try to tell people. Were all on the same side.

We beat eachother up here for a reason. They should really be worried when that stops happening though.

Know what I mean?

Durn it that's twice I've agreed. I'm going to power drink really strong coffee till I'm jittery and belligerent.

(Raises glass)

:D

That's a point I wish some of the people who feel a need to dismiss any critical post, or attack the players who make them, would get a handle on.

I can only speak for myself here but if I hated the game, or thought it was crap, or was tired of it, I wouldn't be wasting my time on its forum commenting on it and suggesting ways in which I thought it could be improved.

The problem for me has always been the way the game was designed... like a cake - each rollout they add a new layer, completely seperate from the previous but lacking much in the way of flavour. What we are starting to see are fillings being added to the layers now. I am hopeful that strawberry spacelegs is on the menu later this year. DB rules! :)

As long as they don't decide to give us a strawberry shortcake ... :x

We could also make up our minds on how leaving 1,000+ posts over several years in a discussion forum of a game that you only ever played in alpha and got refunded upon release reflects on the poster.

Bitter, much?

Firstly one, you took that utterly out of context, just to serve your own purpose of the quote and your post, in an attempt to make yourself look superior.

Secondly - There's 2 ways to look at this Zakk.

One is that I'm a bitter and twisted old guy with absolutely nothing better to do than and moan about a game I backed, but don't play, and would seemingly rather do this than play the close to 100 games in my back catalogue, that have been patiently awaiting my attention - this is seemingly your** preferred viewpoint of me, despite having never met me and having only your obviously "limited world experience" interpretation of my activity on this forum to base such an accusation on. It's entirely possible you prefer to believe your version of my reasons, because it requires no thought on your part at all.

** and all the other detractors of my posts over the years.

The other - is that I'm a guy who backed the game based on a set of "promises" that DB made but has yet to fulfill - and rather than just put that down to bad luck and write DB and FDev off as a bunch of lying crooks and requesting a refund during "offlinegate" as so many hundreds of other backers did - I stuck at it, and gave them my faith, my time and opportunity to make it right.

I've been having my say on various topics regarding the game, AS IS MY RIGHT AS A PAYING CUSTOMER, and sometimes they even make sense, in the hope that DB and FDev pays attention. Furthermore I'll continue to keep prodding them enough so that they fulfill obligations they SET FOR THEMSELVES, when THEY laid out what content was going to be in Elite Dangerous.

Playing the game or not has no relevence for that, I'm an owner - a KS backer - and that makes me something that's known in the rest of the world as an "interested party"; and this is a phenomena that happens pretty much everywhere, everyday even if you personally aren't involved or even aware of it, in a myriad of ways. Sometimes it happens with "politics", sometimes with "sports" and occasionally with "celebrity blah blah bulls..." and you would be amazed at how many things are said around the world on a daily basis by people who are not nor will they ever be involved in "politics", "sports" or "celebrity blah blah ".

So, your argument was???

According to the OP there is a "problem" with ED and it is caused by David Braben's perceived lack of enthusiasm for the game.

Not buying it for a second.

I've talked about the game to this man face to face. It's his baby. No way is he ever "moving on". He spent some time discussing ship boarding mechanics with my (then 12) son at the Elite launch party. This isn't some distant CEO with his eyes on the money, but a hands-on boss, interested in his company and it's staff.

The key difference between now and 2014 is that there is now a community team. Frontier has a number of staff doing PR and community relations and customer support, that just were not there four years ago. Ashley Barley moved on and they've got Ed, Zac, Paige, Bo, Will and many others. The company expanded. There's now a crowd of people between David Braben and the public. The downside is we don't hear from David Braben much, but then we also don't get PR gaffs like Frontier promising features they ultimately cannot deliver - they've learned and changed how things operate. Is that a problem? No. It's just a change.

I miss the development diaries and while I understand making videos is time consuming, I have on several occasions mentioned them to Ed and Zac suggesting they do some as retrospectives e.g. "Chieftain; from drawing board to launch".

We're also no longer talking about a PC alpha with a few hundred players, but a massive live game with hundreds of thousands of players across four platforms.

So is the lack of David Braben hyping the game on a weekly basis really a problem? Does it affect the addition of new content (Squadrons, mining, exploring etc.) later this year? Not really. Not at all.

Slow and steady wins the race.

I applaud your optimism, but things change and so has the company - DB is no longer the majority shareholder, and has not been for some time - should the board decide, he can be removed from his position and the company at any time, don't beleive me check the data at companies house.

The game might well still hold a special place for him, but there are plenty of other computer gaming companies with just ONE GAMING FRANCHISE to thier stable, who are nonethless incredibly successful, and have not required a handout from a chinese corporation to raise funds to keep the doors open - and if you think that's an over exaggeration - why else did they do it?

Would you sell a chunk of your company to a chinese investor just to get a foot in the chinese market? If you would then you are a fool, who deserves what you get - because the chinese do not take any prisoners in business, they play for keeps and only agree to any financial deal if they thought there was more advantage to be made than is first offered - Tencent are playing the "long game" with FDev and many others. As each boardmember decided to retire, sell up and move on, the chinese will buy thier shares - 20 years from now FDev could well be an entirely chinese owned company - anyone who has paid attention to world politics will know this.

It is under that premise that Cosmos and others are worried that DB is no longer doing the driving - and anyone with even a modicum of gaming history will know that once a games initial creator hands over content direction to a third party - bad things often happen as they impose thier own interpretations of "what the gamers want" - which can often be very different from the original ethos the game was created under.

Cosmos clearly knows this - many other people saying he's talking out of his rear, clearly do not.

Is it also okay to make up my mind about how this reflects on someone who demands a refund for a game, is bitterly vitriolic about it for years while not even having tried in once after release at all?

Sure dont sound healthy to me...

please read my post about "interested party".

BTW none of my "vitriol" is bitter.

See the part in my post about offlinegate and refunds for further explanantion.

Passionate - sure. Giving a damn - sure. Angry - sure occasionally.

Trying to effect change and hold FDev accountable? Absolutely.

Maybe more people should hold those who don't deliver upon thier OWN WORDS accountable - the world would be a better place for it.

I'm going to assume you've done some of this in other areas of your life at least once sleut - or are you one of those rare people for whom life just "happens TO" and just accepts everything that happens around you without ever trying to do anything about the things you don't like.

Me, I'm not built that way; and I won't apologise for it.

And just to clarify - I'm not like this in any other forum for any other game anywhere - not even for Eve Online that I've played for over 9 years (subbed), or WoW I played for 7 (subbed) - The combined costs of those subs is over £1,000 - way way more than I backed ED for.

The elite franchise and the original in particular has a meaning for me most will not appreciate or even understand - I've made no secret of the events around that section of my life, and I accept that that is what fuels my particular "burning" for this game and what's happening around and within it.

Gotta stand for something right?

Hey guys,

Wow, this is a pretty meaty thread!

Firstly, I can tell you from being here in the office for two years, and from working with David, that he's very involved in Elite Dangerous and still loves the game and the community. It really is his baby, as some of you have said! In terms of the games direction, we've recently announced and released the first part of a year of free updates which are largely focused on reworking and improving core mechanics for which we will happily accept your feedback. The whole team is dedicated and passionate about making the best Space Sim game possible, and we hope you'll be along for the ride.

On that note, it would be very nice to get occasional updates from the man himself :D
