New explorer for q4?

Do you think we will get a new exploration ship for q4?
I’d love to see a anaconda x. 2 small hardpoints and super light hull armor that can take a size 7 fsd.

I really really hope so, even if it’s just a chieftain with reapproprited modules. i.e. larger FSD, smaller power plant etc.

That’s my understanding also.
A shame as it would provide some extra and varied ship eyecandy later this year.

Really? That’s pretty lame. Even if the aspx can outjump the ani, it can’t carry everything. They really should make a dedicated explorer ship.

They said they wouldn't go down that road, but buff the AspX instead. So, extremely unlikely...

Are you sure it was the AspX? They mentioned Asp Scout wherever I was watching/ listening.

Anyway, the Krait mockup appears to have a downwards looking cabin, so ever hopeful on that one.

It's really hard to know for sure what they meant, since in the livestream in which they said they wouldn't add any more exploration ships, the question was posed as "faction-specific exploration ships", to which they said something like "no, not really", and then went on to say that they would probably buff the existing ones.

My suspicion is that they're happy with just a few high jump range explorers at the low end of the ship lineup, plus the anaconda, and everything else having shorter ranges. As a player, I find it incredibly frustrating that explorers have no real upgrade path, short of jumping the huge gap between the AspX and the Anaconda. And since not everyone likes the Anaconda, our upgrade path often ends at the AspX, which I started flying after only 2 weeks of play. We only have options if we decide to discard jump range as an important factor, in the one style of play that relies on it the most.

As Orvidius said, it was -as usual- pretty vague... I suspect that on top of the questionnable idea of buffing -yet again- the existing ships, buffing the Asp Scout to make it basically level with the X, albeit with less internals, would be the worst decision of all.

They are going to buff/rework the Asp Scout to fall more in line with being an actually viable bridge between the Diamondback Explorer and the Asp Explorer. As it stands now, the Asp Scout is somehow worse than a Diamondback Scout.

Yeah something in between AspX and 'conda would be nice.

Especially if it had better engine sounds.

Thinking of getting an Orca just for the engine sounds. >.>

We have no 100% dedicated explorer yet. A ship built completely about exploration would be nice, maybe 2x med hardpoints but a plethora of medium and one large optional for the scoop. AspX is a medium multipurpose, that you can even use for combat. With 4x rails and 2x beams it's actually stronger than a vulture firepower-wise. Conda is also a multipurp.

While I would like some Federal and Imperial explorer ships, those were pretty much ruled out. As for other stuff... A non-Lakon large explorer ship would be nice, something comparable to the Anaconda in exploration but not in combat nor trade... but that's about it. With the current stuff in engineering, and the upcoming FSD booster added on top of that (if they'll strike the +125% fuel usage, that is), even multi-role ships can reach 50 ly.
Personally, I'd rather they added more multi-role ships, and less specialised stuff. We have enough combat and trader ships, and with one or maybe two more exploration ships, I think we'd have it all covered.

Technically if they added a multi-role ship with a reasonably good jump range, but the optional internals were divided up into a large number of smaller slots, with only one or two larger ones (scoop & fsd booster, mainly), it might naturally make a good explorer. For other roles, a large number of smaller slots might be less optimal, but potentially still viable. Perhaps trade might be the weakest role, since it would be hard to stack enough cargo racks to be competitive with the ships that already fill that role quite well. Maybe more of a combat-explorer? Just musing aloud here.

Ideally I would love to see one that had more of a sciencey sort of look to it, a good jump range, lots of smaller module slots and utility slots, weak on the hardpoints (unless we get probe launchers to use in those, or something), and just enough larger slots to use a large fuel scoop and still fit SRVs and the class-5 FSD booster. And perhaps most importantly to me, a good cockpit view. It doesn't have to be Lakon, but I like Lakon's level of visibility. However if it were Lakon, this could be a good use of the "Type-8" gap in their lineup.

As far as slots are concerned, we could have a multitude of small slots on any ship if they ever add slot-splitters of some kind. That is, equipment racks that let you put two small modules into one large slot, or something along those lines. Ideas have been posted before about having a slot splitter that accepts two modules at two sizes smaller than the splitter.

Again, just thinking aloud here. If I really had my way, we'd be able to modify or engineer the ship hulls so that we can change the FSD sizes at the expense of something else, and make any ship into a long-range explorer.

I'd absolutely love to see one, but do I think we will? No, I don't expect to see one, unless it's a combat ship that just happens to have a decent jump range too. [sad]

Ugh, why does everyone always ask for "Ship name mk II".

I want an entirely new ship. Lets not use Dev time to make a mk II and instead get something original. How about a Saud Kruger luxury explorer with range and internals to rival the Anaconda with class 1 slots for scanners and decent turn rates/speed yet minimal weaponry. Something that will cruise the galaxy in style without being limited. Orca is ok at a pinch but with all the new modules we need something a touch bigger..

This is why I'm mildly looking forward to the Krait. By the looks of things it will have at least two large slots as it is SLF compatible, and the size is approx. between that of a Python and the Asp X.

When you take into account the Krait's original history as a pirate ship, that makes me think of two things:

a) good jump range so you can avoid security systems at your leisure, plus those heavily kitted bounty hunters have a hard time playing catch up
b) good number of small-mid size internals so you can fit limpet controllers, an FSD interdictor and cargo racks, while still having some combat capability

As the current Krait model tends to be considerably larger than the original from previous games, I hope the focus is on the "versatility" of a ship of that size (= multi-role capability).

Not that I'm expecting anything. Just hoping...?

I had high hopes crushed for the Type 10 and the Guardian FSD booster, so I won't do the same mistake and just make the best out of my conda.

Also, I surely wouldn't blame FD for not adding another Exploration ship but instead add some more Exploration Content. This has higher priority IMHO.
