Shouldn't Thargoids be interdicting us in supercruise?

I already consider the Thargoids a non-threat because they do not or cannot interdict us in supercruise. So I ignore them. That means I can also ignore the plotlines and associated nonsense. Wake me up if and when Thargoids can pick and choose their combats ...

It's because there are people ....a subset of players... who would cry so tremendously about not being able to play without risk of death that Fdev has made this combat opt-in.

Not sure what kind of dirty laundry they have against the powers that be, but it seems their opinions hold some pretty strong influence in the direction the game takes.

Beat me to it.

But you nailed it.

They should be just like any other NPC interdicting CMDRs in supercruise not just in poxy U.S.S. & it is easy to make them nice to Thargoid Huggers

The Thargoid Scans the CMDRs Ship
IF the ship is Not armed for Thargoid combat / not carrying Thargoid Bits/Meta alloy they jump back into SC
If the ship is Armed for Thargoid combat / carrying Thargoid Bits/Meta alloy let battle begin

That seems quite reasonable: in modern warfare armies fight and don’t arbitrarily attack civilians so, if on hyper-diction, the CMDR is not armed for anti-Thargoid warfare (i.e. not considered a member of the opposing “army”) and does not attack, the Thargoid could realistically consider them a “civilian”, perform some scans for intel and then leave ‘em be. Would still be pretty stressful the first time it happens (which is good!) and would allow more people to at least see ‘em.

I don't know about interdiction, but shouldn't we be able to defend a station while they are attacking?
Unless I'm mistaken, all we can participate in are the rescue and rebuilding efforts afterwards.

I’m in agreement, but mot fully. There should absolutely be areas where any human vessel is seen as an intruder, and you should be prepared to fight, jump quickly through, team up with armed wingmates to busy the goids while the T-9’s wake out, or take the long way around. There is already a map filter for Thargoid-controlled systems; make us use it.

Being interdicted by scouts only would be a good way to encourage wing protection - normal weapons are effective, and they aren’t instantly deadly. Suppose they interdict a trade ship and their interdictions cause an extra-long FSD reboot - armed escorts would have a chance to drop in and engage them long enough for the interdictee to restart their systems…and then wake out before the flowerships (yes, plural) arrive and things really go to hell. Those kinds of encounters would be the kind where survive-and-escape is considered “winning” the encounter, and destroying all the opponents should be considered pure crazy.

Scouts can be handled pretty easily with a courier using conventional weapons. Scouts can't interrupt FSD charging, or directly disable thrusters, and can't really mass lock anything. They are less of a threat than a dangerous FDL NPC pirate.

I can't agree, i have tryed to take on 4 Scouts with my usual fast-travelling AspX.
Usually i can take on some serious NPC's but class 1 and 2 weapons do barely any damage to scouts amd they spit corrosive missiles. I was always dead due to corrosive damage with that lightweight armor long before reaching a starport.
I had 3 rebuys in that AspX against Scouts and i surely won't do that again.
In my Gunship/FDL/Anaconda/Corvette with good armor instead....yes no problem. I could fight scouts all day long and even escape Cyclops' without serious danger. But my Cobra MK.IV, Asp, Orca, trade-Python.....it would just end in a rebuy in 99% of all cases.

So i'm the same opinion like tolm.
As long as half-way preparation takes an endless grind or is just not available for some ships due to class/internal error, it should NOT be the case that we can be attacked everywhere everytime.

In the old game you could win with a Cobra MK.III against Thargoids with some skill so this wasn't a problem. This is just NOT possible in this Elite today.
However, when being around in the Pleiades, i would expect also some more hyperdictions and action. But we should be carefull what we wish for.....:D

Well, we are not talking about fighting them, but everybody (even without shields) should be able to escape from a Scout interdiction since they don't mass-lock.
They normally also don't use caustic missiles until you heavily damaged them.

BY the way, I wouldn't recommend a bigger ship to fight Scouts because in case you get hit by a missile, you easily pay way more for repairs than what you earn from killing a dozen Scouts.
FDL, Chieftain or FAS are way better suited, even for (Threat 5) 12 Scout attacks. Or smaller ships when using AX weapons.

We do have that mechanic now as of a couple weeks ago. There are two aegis megaships stationed in the bubble in systems where thargoids are currently attacking. If you go there and fight them you can prevent station attacks at least. Not sure if their locations are announced in galnet or if you have to get them from the eagle eye listening posts or what, but that is a thing now. It would be really cool if you could actually fend them off at the station while they are attacking but I don't foresee that becoming a thing...

It's because FDev decided to put Thargoids into a magical realm of "weapons won't work" to create the need for special weapons and more grind. If you outfit for Thargoids, you cannot fight normal players who will grief you if they know you're outfitted for Thargoids. I don't know enough about the rest of the stuff, guardians and all that comic book nonsense, but the game I play in Solo, not one faction ever mentions the Thargoids unless that system or region is under attack.

For that reason, I don't care for them. I don't want to be interdicted by something I cannot fight, for reasons I don't care about. If they force it on me anyhow, I'll beat them all by just not playing ED.

Sure, it would be welcome content until the 44th interdiction while trying to do something else. That's how FD seems to do it, they don't know the concept of moderation. You either get interdicted always or never.

I would expect them to do SC interdiction.

Anyway.

I think thargoids should appear as a power in powerplay. Do business in their sphere of influence : high chance if interdiction.

It would also give a clear picture of where they plan to expand and their region of influence.

Would make powerplay useful for once

Indeed - what a great way to alienate huge swathes of your player base from a crucial part of the game lore!

You hit the nail on the head..
