Why do people support this game so heavily??

Okay so I was watching Youtube and I ended up getting to Obsidian Ants channel and he mentioned planet landings back in 2015 and I was really surprised 2015!? Are you kidding me? So I was thinking about the game up to the present and ever since then we have gotten little to no CONTENT. I mean we should have more by now, nope still the same grindy game. I have put 5 weeks into this game and I love it I truly do but I dont have years to play the repetitive same stuff over and over again. They cant even get the mission board to be correct or be immersive and all of your fun is pressing buttons here in a space station and flying away to press buttons somewhere else. Or......oh my.....you can go shoot a rock on a big EMPTY planet or moon. See this was amazing to me at first because I was expecting to play an evolving space game but they dont do anything anymore besides add more community goals or fix things that should have been fixed awhile ago. And another thing is the prices on everything just to put a simple skin on your ship....NOPE have to pay...horizons was a ripoff and all they do is try to pull every last penny out of your pocket. Like I would love to be able to just change my ship color to another simple color and they can put a price on the fancy skins fine by me. I want to love this game but they are making it very hard. Look at other games Like The Wither 3 or Assassins Creed Origins they have CONTENT like you can do this then do that and hunt and do ACTUAL missions. In Elite it is 3304 and for a game set on being so realistic they sure dont know how to make a galaxy do they? I mean yes they modeled the galaxy really well but when I say galaxy I mean the life in it. Elite is as wide as an ocean but only a foot deep, not much to do. Even exploration is bad like you can get good views from stuff you've seen 300000000000 times and you dont even get to experience it like you should by now. Like ill be dead by the time they add atmospheric planet landings

Now I know a lot of you will tell me to leave or you dont care......but I want to know how do you love a game where you dont have anything to do and even with the stuff you get to do its ultra repetitive and grindy. I have restarted 3 or so times hoping to have a "GOAL" something to work towards. I like games with things to do I mean what do you truly get after grinding a trade route for HOURS, when in other games it could make you jump out of your seat with excitement. Im just tired of the little to no CONTENT and even with the content we have it is not immersive at all for being a realistic game and it is very very repetitive.

I want people to be supportive and try to understand where im coming from I love this game just as much also but im just looking to see if anyone else feels the same.:(

Play in open. Just running a "same old" mission becomes an exercise in ensuring ship safety, build quality and escape / combat manoeuvres. Make sure you can comfortably afford a buy back, insurance is a must.

However, to give you an idea. I fly outta Founders, run a mission to Bunda (which is soooo quiet these days, its not anarchy anymore) and return empty, jump in to Founders and interdicted, 1 corvette, 3 fgs / fas types, I'm in a cutter. Try a bit of pew-pew, FA off stuff, reverski, cause a bit of damage to 2 ships, my shields down to 50% pop a class 6 SCB with heat sink but they are too much. Set low wake and jump out, they follow and repeat twice more. Eventually I haul out to another system and dock up. Minor repair and restock, jump back and motor to Jamesons. Blood pumping, eyes out, checking muh 6. So much more fun.

For me the reason i love and support this game is cause there isnt any others like it sure there are other space games out there but none with as much detail as this

This ....plus there is so much potential. But sometimes I facepalm and be like "why aren't you doing this yet!"

But you're missing what I mean by content but you are also right many ways to have fun but that just isn't my playstyle. I know I use examples a lot but take Subnautica for example I can relate the ocean to space this way. In Subnautica you get the ocean of an alien planet that you are against and in this ocean you to survive, build submarines, and bases, have aquarium, grow a farm. You can go out to explore more and then have a reaper say hello to you and make you jump right out of your seat. That is what I mean by content like im giving all these things to do and its fun and it keeps me playing to keep progressing. I do own subnautica btw........Im just looking for content in Elite like this because I love space and the unknown an some of the stuff you get to do....

Do you think im looking for the wrong stuff in Elite? should I look at Elite as just a Grindy simulator? Do you think I should look for this in other games instead? or keep my hopes up and expect a good update?

Why do people support this game so heavily??

Is it because it's fun?

Elite certainly doesn't have the tech tree and base building mechanics of Subnautica. If you're looking for Subnautica in space, then ED isn't it. There are so many things to do in ED, but each has a learning curve. I like that. I also like to figure out how to do stuff, so what is actually a simple mission if you follow a wiki page on how to do it, can be hours of flying around working out where things are, how to scan things, locating a base on a planet and recovering things to your ship.

Unlock an engineer? Join a Community Goal? Get some Empire rep for a sweet looking ship? Or Federation for something fugly? Or both? Get a layer in a Powerplay Power? Try mining? Bounty hunt? Do the first 20 systems of road to riches? Or just explore some stuff on your own? Scan an alien? Kill an Alien? Learn how to drop out of SC always facing the station head on? Fly something small and fast with flight assist off?

I don't think I'll ever do a fraction of what's available in the game. However, like anything, I sometimes go off and do other things. Dip in, dip out. The game is enormous, and growing all the time. It may not be for you, but I'd be surprised if you didn't find some elements that grip you, even if it's only every now and then for an evening or two at a time.

While it's not for everyone, the BGS has a depth that many can't handle.

You have to prepare. Build several ships for various purposes if you want to be efficient. But you can do it all in an Asp Explorer.

Pick a faction and make it stronger in some systems, weaker in others with an overall goal of sustainability and growth. Don't overheat or you'll run into unwanted and randomly placed expansions.

Interact with other player factions. Some are large and some are only a single CMDR. There are a lot of us out there.

Plan an expansion route with a purpose. Maybe you want the faction to head into deep space. Maybe you want it to infiltrate a power's realm. Maybe both.

The decisions you make today could affect you for weeks or months. They could mean the difference between progression or implosion.

It can be frustrating. Rewarding. Teachable. Addicting.

If you're looking for depth, be careful of that for which you ask.

No Rook. You don't love this game. 5 weeks? You've barely scratched Elite.

You came into this game looking to be entertained. As you said, you were hoping for a "GOAL" to work towards.

You make your own Goals.

Horizons was not a waste. Horizons gave us Planetary Landings, Engineers, Thargoids, Guardian sites, SRVs, Player Avatars, and Multicrew. Hell the base game gave us Wings, Powerplay, and a first C&P update. Community Goals have been a long standing tradition and your chance to help shape the storyline of ether Frontier's doing or that of a Player Faction.

The BGS causes the galaxy to change and evolve in weird ways. One day it may belong to a Superpower, the next it may have been flipped to an independent system for PowerPlay purposes.

Yes changing the colors on your ship costs actual money. That's how Frontier funds these games after launch rather then a Paid Subscription like WoW. One does not need skins or labels to be effective in the game, it's just a means to an end.

And how is Witcher 3 and Assassin's Creed any different from the Assassination or Massacre Missions offered by Elite's Factions? Get a target? Find target, blow it to hell, get paid. Exact same thing.

The difference between Elite and those to games? Those two have a NARRATIVE. They are THEMEPARK. Elite has nether. That's up to you to determine.

If you're that desperate for a goal to work toward, go find a Player Faction in the Dangerous Groups subfourm. They'll be more then happy to put you to work.

Otherwise if Elite isn't your game, you know where the uninstall button is.

You can leave your stuff over there for the vultures to pick through.

What I mean is when you start up a game you know what you get such as FIFA, you start it up and you get to play soccer and everything having to do with soccer. When I start up ELITE their are so many possibilities with the name of this game and its not meeting them. For what it is right now this game should be called Future Space simulator. David Braben has told people what he wants for Elite, so he wants it too but its like they announce that this is what you will be putting your money towards when you buy this game but it really isn't. I want more depth exactly what I want, I want the really wide ocean to go down a few thousand feet and explore what space is all about. not restrict me from what I want and what the developers want also. Who doesn't want to be able to just see how small we really are. by being able to explore all what space has to offer. This is what Elite should be ALL of what space has to offer plus the expanding humans, thargoid, and guardians story because who doesnt love a good story.

Ive enjoyed a lotta games in three decades of gaming...but very few of them have been genuinely and at times, quite emotionally inspiring enough to sink literally weeks and months of real life time into. For that passion to last years with real plans fer more years ahead...I can count how many games Ive played outta hundreds over the years, and count them on one hand.

My biggest regret being I didnt listen to an old friend of mine who tried to talk me into the kickstarter, but I was too involved with another game and only washed up on these shores a couple months before horizons went live.

If yer asking specific reasons why Ill never stop supporting this game, then pull up a comfy chair cos Ill give ye an essay from now till the wee hours.

And if the best wax lyrical doesnt convince ye, then I got nothin else and think if yer still confused, then Im not the right guy to ask cos my answer wasnt what ye wanted to hear.

Maybe in all honesty, maybe ive lost interest in what elite has to offer and im expecting it to fulfill what I want even though its my problem that Ive lost interest.....Elite was one of the first games i got and then I got other games that interest me more like siege I have 1752 hours in Rainbow six siege and im expecting Elite to meet what I want....when I shouldn't maybe I should uninstall its been a good run commanders o7

Oh and Im not leaving Elite because I dont like the game Im leaving it because its not meeting how I feel and that is my problem.....I guess im thinking wrong I love space and im trying to get space and Elite to be one, when I should see them differently and know that Elite cant give you everything....as is with most games everyone has their opinion and this is mine....thank you for the support o7

I support Elite because I'm a longtime space- and flight sim player — so "future space simulator" is exactly what I enjoy!

I also play games like Elite Dangerous, to get away from story based and dialog heavy games.

"There's no other space game alternatives" is a pretty common answer and really a pretty pathetic state of affairs for frontier when that's the best reason someone can give for continuing to play or pay frontier for this game.

Frontier know they have the space game monopoly which is why ED is in maintenance mode this year so they can strengthen FD by moving into other genres.

It'll be a year of expected underdelivering and minimum viable release like multicrew and thargoids.... and at the end if it all the fan boys will defend it because it's all FREE.

ED has plenty of content, more than any person could explore in a lifetime. Yes, that content is repetitive and mostly generated by RNG, but it's still content. ED models an entire galaxy; it's very different from a few hand-crafted maps and associated missions/quests/content.

Space is very big, so things are spread out. You can visit various Guardian Ruins, Thargoid bases, Jameson's crash site, and many other "special" areas, but you need to be prepared to fly a long way to get to them. Or if you prefer combat, go fight some Thargoids. If you want emotional connections, consider joining the Fuel Rats; you can get genuine feelings of appreciation and thankfulness by helping your fellow pilots. Plus the Fuel Rats make it fun, by turning it into a race, to see who can help a player first.
