What would we do without the Engineers?

If FDev totally removed engineers from the game? I'd start playing again.

Funny you mention that, as I recently asked myself "what if FDev released legacy modes?" (= Basically open/pg/solo modes restricted to the base game with planetary landings.)
I wonder how many people would swap to that...? Or play in open (again)?

We'd also don't have to read the same old memeish answers to issues we have with the gameplay. Overall, it'd be a much more pleasant experience.

That can go both ways. The forums would be a much better experience if people wouldn't continue to moan about something that they have subjected themselves to.

Using the word memeish is somewhat insulting don't you think?

No, not at all. It's a prejudice anyway. Just like you assume people would "subject themselves to" it.

It is true. I don't narrate anything to myself. It is how I play the game. I don't grind for anything. Simple as that.

If you think there is no choice, then you are deluding yourself and seem to have no idea what grind is.

I don't grind neither. The game just isn't fun to play anymore with engineers.

If the game was fun before engineers, why has it stopped now. You don't need engineers to play the game. I have very few engineered modules which I think the only part I did grind for was the mining part to open one up. But even that I could of done it in such a way that it would have been a lot more fun. But I am not complaining about that as I subjected myself to that. Getting a few engineered modules is no grind. It is, if you want to do them all at one time, but the game never forces that on you. That is a choice. I do the odd upgrade every once in a while. I enter the odd USS when traveling. I fight in combat zones and res sights with minimal engineered modules and I am not a great pilot.

All I have done is do some slight changes in how I play. I scan a few wakes every once in a while when leaving a station. I try to scoop stuff when available.

Do a planetary scan missions. When down there blow up a few rocks every now and again. The materials rack up pretty quickly. Also you get materials for rewards too.

You do not have to go through the engineers all in one go.

Play virtually the same as you did before but just add a few extra things to do and it will not feel like a grind.

But if you go in to tunnel vision mode and do nothing else. Then yes, it will be a grind. But that is down to the player.

Now guardian ruins on the other hand. Well they can be a grind, but only if you engage in them. As none of the items are needed to engage in any other content, I see no reason to grind them out. I may visit the sites for the experience though.

I didn't inflict crap game mechanics on myself.

You choose to play at all.
You choose to grind.
You choose to complain about the grind.
You choose to object to alternate suggestions.

At any point in your four step process you can choose to try to do it differently.

I'm happy with the game, I think the new engineers are fab but then I don't grind at them.

It's not fun because I have to deal with bulletsponged enemies now. There is little point in peashooting them for the same rewards and I'm not doing the stupid engineers to just unlock combat levels of pre-engineer era.
I also don't want to do the engineers just to be able to combat players again. I could do that just fine before. I also see no point in accessing that ridiculous power creep - the whole thing is pointless. In the end I'd be just trivialising the gameplay.

Are you talking about NPC's or PvP. NPC's are still extremely easy to get rid of. I dispatch any NPC in my lightly engineered Vulture. None of them are bullet proof.

As to PvP, well that is always a grind arms race not matter if there is engineers or not.

People complain about the engineers but without them what else is there to do? Without the grind its an empty universe.

Personally, I am grateful for the engineers. If it werent for the engineers when ever i feel like banging my head against the wall, i can just fire up ED and save the drywall repair and medical bills.

So i repeat my question, what would you do in ED if there were no engineers? The game is the grind and the grind is the game.

It's funny I read the OP question as: WHAT do those without HORIZONS do to actually like ED?

:D :D

As it sounds like without Horizons [engineers]... the OP would be getting his walls re plastered every couple of days, and taking concussion breaks lol. As insinuates there's absolutely noting else to do :p

To answer that question, I have no idea. Sounds like a stealth 'Horizons is mandatory' thread.

[haha]

Its funny. Obviously before horizons came out all we could do is look at the station walls as there was no game to play. Yup I did that for a year and a half.

I give you credit for admitting you're using engineered ship.
