I have been contemplating, for several episodes now, about using other people to voice some of the characters for my videos. I've reached out to friends and family only to get mixed results. So, now I'm considering reaching out to the Elite community for help with voices.

I'm presently finishing up episode 4 and need one additional voice for it. The character can be male or female with any accent, but must speak clearly. They must sound like they're depressed and don't care about anything. Well, there is one thing they care about, and may get a little upset if they don't get it. Best archtype for this character would be a Goth. Think Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice or Wednesday Addams from the Addams Family.

If you'd like to try for the part, just make a recording of the following lines and send them to me. The recording must be clean and have little background noise in it. I'll pick the person who I think best think sounds like the part.

Sorry, this isn't a paid gig. You'll get your name (or Forum ID or Cmdr Name, or whatever you prefer) on the closing credit and the adoration of hundreds. Once I've chosen the best person, I'll send you copy of the actual "script" and you can record the lines that will end up in the final video.

I'll give this until Sunday (4/16) before I decide. If nobody responds or I can't find someone suitable for the part, I'll go ahead and voice it myself, but I really like to use a larger variety of voices than just mine.

Up until the "you'll get exposure" (with the stereotypical wink, no less) comment I'd have agreed. This is no different than asking for free channel art, or free commission and suggesting the person will be rewarded with "exposure".

There are far more constructive ways to do this (like collaborating with peers) rather than essentially soliciting and using the oldest trope in the book to explain why it has to be free. I'm hoping the OP meant well, but it's a train-wreck of a request.

Don't be too hard on him. It's only 4 lines. I've done voice work, programming, art work, and level design, all for the "fun" of it. I've got a good job; I don't need cash.

If I have some time this weekend, I'll probably do the recordings. (There's no guarantee, I've got a lot on my todo list.)

Audition and I'll give you 10% of the profits so far, which is... le'see... it's cost me roughly 600 smackers so far to produce this series... subtracting that from the profits I've made so far? Hmm... 0 minus 600 is -600... so, if you get the part, you'll owe me 60$!

Even funnier, if I took your attitude, then I'm owed a serious amount of cash for all the skits and plays I did in elementary and high school. Not to mention all the dinner theater and film work I did in California. Dammit, I'm owed BIG TIME for all that work I did just for fun. Foolish me.

Like I said, just be clear and understandable. Thinking about it, since this first "phase" is an audition where I'm trying to find someone I like for the part, I suppose background noise and such isn't as relevant as I originally insisted, but it will become so when the final recording is made. So, just go ahead and make your recordings and send them to me. If I like you for the part and noise is an issue, I'll ask if you can fix it and if you can't? Well, I'll go to my next choice. I'm, of course, assuming you have a computer and a mic.

And, actually, I was just in your part of the world last July. Stayed with some friends in Northamptonshire (Kings Cliffe) and even made it up to Stratford-upon-Avon, just south of Birmingham. I don't know the Brummie accent, and I don't think my friends have it, but, like I said, just be clear and convey an air of apathy.

A lot of people looking at getting into voice acting will volunteer to do little projects like these for nothing more than their name in the credits. Even if the work doesn't gain a lot of exposure, it allows them to add another entry to their résumé.

If someone has dozens of projects on their résumé big or small, it speaks volumes about how seriously they take their work, and how easy they are to work with.

Lol, as a photographer I understand this. We constantly get asked to do things for free, give pictures away free to magazines, spend our own time and money, all because of the mysterious and alluring "exposure", which means nothing, ever. I've had pictures in some of the most well known magazines out there and did events for free and never once, has anyone ever tracked me down and offered me riches with the line "wow I seen that picture you had once in that magazine, I'm hiring you".
I was also a semi pro guitarist for many years, the same thing happened there as well, "can you do this gig for us, you'll get exposure, we can't pay you though".
So I guess, as a creative type of person, this sort of thing touches a nerve as we're totally sick of it.

However I think the op is innocent here And two minutes of voice recording for a fan project in a community we're all into anyway seems a lot different from someone asking you to do their wedding photos for free

I wish I could get my 18 year old daughter to record the lines for you but she'd never go for it, unfortunately. I suppose I could record the lines myself but I'm not quite sure I can render the level of totally-bored-by-existence that you seem to be looking for.

How is this any worse than a developer asking for free artwork to incorporate into their own game for free?

How is it any different than two people getting together to perform a skit for their friends? As I already pointed out, unlike the developer, I stand to gain nothing from this. Even if I somehow gained a million views on Youtube, I can't make money off of it because I'm using copyrighted material and it does NOT fall under fair-use rules.
