Spinal Mounted Weapons

For the Larger ships, I,E. Vette, Cutter, Conda and some medium ships, add the ability to sacrifice hard points or internal slots to add a powerful spinal mounted weapon that can come In different variety's like a plasma accelerator or rail gun. it would only fire forward and will require lining up with the target as well as a charge up and massive power draw to fire out a projectile that is much faster and much more powerful. the weapons on larger ships would be more powerful but with higher power draw and charge up time and a high heat build up. As the weapon would run most of the length of the ship, some internal slots would have to be sacrificed and maybe even core internals going a class down.

Know what you are talking about. Like the main gun on Geth ship in ME. Like this idea, but it would raise some balance issues, as even a Cutter is mobile enough to use railguns effectively.

Until, and if ED would survive long enough so it would not evolve further without adding player controlled and/or destructible capitals, there is no real reason for such firepower.

And thing is, all current C4 hardpoints are pretty much that as they are. They take a significant amount of hull space even when retracted. They are really huge. If you look even at Vulture, you can easily compare sizes of a pilot chair and a single C3 plasma.
(and seriously, all of 200 maximum economy passengers on a Conda can fit inside a single barrel of C4 plasma, along with their capsule cabins. Scale in this regard is messed up seriously).

I am following X3 space ship classification by duckling syndrome, and Egosoft had clearly taken some clues from previous Elite games, so it should be fair to use it here.
Some medium and all large combat ships are fit into Corvette class, or M6. Those ships act like heavy fighters towards anything of the same size or larger and act as small capitals towards anything smaller. They are not a subject for having some weaponry like that. They are relatively small ships by design and purpose. They have to be at least twice as large to be a subject for having some of such weaponry and give up on any ambitions for fighter class capabilities

Someone's been playing Stellaris.

Like the idea, but it's unlikely to happen for balance reasons, I suspect. We don't have large railguns, let alone huge, let alone something bigger, so CMDRs can't oneshot smaller ships. While I would love a massive, slow firing weapon, PvP balance is still important.

I'll throw my comments in here as well. On top of the issues voiced beforehand the spinal mounted weapons would require serious modelwork for the ships to look good with them. In essence the ships were designed without the feature and if you wanted to add in a BFG running through the ship, then the ships would pretty much need a complete alternative model made for them to incorporate the guns and to still look good (The current cutter with a big barrel slapped on the nose would just look stupid). So they would have to create alternative models, for existing ships that would break balance, while they could put that work into creating whole new ships for us. Cool idea, just not very feasible.

The huge hardpoints are already pretty much spinal mount weapons as far as I can see. However, I would like to see more offensively oriented internals, such as ammunition magazines or supplementary distributors so that we can devote more of our internals towards firepower rather than simply just getting more defensive internals.

With this crowd, it could have been the original Starblazers cartoon series. They came out in roughly the same period.
I g loved Star Blazers and I hope the devs take some hints from it in the future
Complex launch sequence, wave motion gun even having crew call in from shock cannon rooms I can see it now me dropping out in my new space battleship scanning for wanted pirates and upon finding one order main guns be prepped for firing once shock gun turrets lock on I order 3...2...1...FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!
