+Rep to everyone who posted having more than one copy (and made me feel better about owning more than one myself ;-)
This is a great feature of the consoles - I made my XBOX One X my "home console" and have three accounts I use to make Elite vids.
But I just bought the Core edition on sale for $12 so I could use my alt on my second xbox while on the treadmill
While I have my steam games installed on multiple PCs, having a second copy of Elite on a second Stream account allows me to start over if I want, and also allows me to "steam family share" it with any friend who wants to try it out while also playing with that friend using my main account
You can do the same thing on PC using Steam Family Sharing - just like on the consoles create another account with a new email address, and then do the Steam Family Sharing with that account.
Very cool - was the first one not from FDev? I know FDev gave me a steam and oculus key each time I purchased directly from them.
As mentioned above, why not try Steam Family Sharing?
I also would like to see multiple save slots / accounts like in other online open world games, but for FREE. And I would like to share any purchased items between them (paint jobs, etc.) It would also be cool if they could use each others ships (again, like other open world games)

PS - I've kind of lost track of how many I've gifted away - I think I'm up to four?
Two - PC (but I don't have a machine capable of running it though [noob]); XBox my main account and I can have as many alternate commanders (1 so far) on there as I want by adding account profiles to my XBox which will share the game.

Why do you need more than one? Other than for platform reasons or alt account reasons? I've got 1 copy installed on 3 different PCs...

Just one. I almost bought a second one, until I heard that console players get extra save slots for free. That’s a pretty awful trick to pull on PC players, if you ask me.

2, both PC.
The second one was a recent purchase through Steam, because my recently purchased Pimax VR headset requires Steam VR .

I am stubbornly holding out hope that Frontier will one day sell me a CMDR save slot. Am I insane? Maybe... but I don’t want to buy everything again for the new CMDR.
I just can’t bring myself to purchase a full copy of everything again even though I do want a second CMDR for exploration based out of Colonia pretty badly.
For now I’ll just keep waiting, wistfully looking over the Atlantic towards the new Frontier HQ waiting for them to take my money!
