silent running Federal Gunship

Greetings commanders,

I wonder if someone had tried to run a stealthy FGS. I am thinking shieldless, hull tanked with 2 or 3 heatsinks, a weapon oriented power ditributor and a low emission powerplant. And then go crazy with PA's to pack a maximum punch in as little time as possible. Does it sound viable?

Any experience / advice welcomed.

I've faced one before. It had reverb torpedoes and packhounds on it - firing them both masked the presence of the torpedoes. It was pretty tough to defeat.

I'm not sure how well plasma would work. I think most silent runners do rails with heat reduction for at least some of their build.

I was hoping that if everything thing else is turned off I might be able to kill quickly without frying :)

but maybe MCs and missiles are the way to go

efficient plasmas have a 60 % heat reduction when G5 combined with a 24% increase in damage. but maybe it is still too much

For stealth IMHO you need to go for kinetic.
Although I hear the "heat conduit" special effect on lasers can be very effective at actually reducing heat - I must try that.
My stealth FdL has all G5 engineered doubleshot frag cannons. 2 volleys are enough to kill most medium ships. (PvE)

I have a stealth fragfas and was very interested to see if a stealth FGS is viable. I've seen stealth FGS missile boats, but with heat issues. How about a stealth FGS cannon ship with all spice and shock cannons? That may keep the heat down. Freedom frags would also be good, although time on target is an issue with the gunship.

I do it with a Chieftain, see no reason why it wouldn't work with the FGS

This is my criminal ship build (PvE) Shields are removed when smuggling, combat is mainly against smaller authority ships.

I like it. I am just wondering why the planetary vehicule hangar. I get the appeal of the docking computer. I know many don't but there is nothing like getting a beer while the car parks itself.

The consensus seems to be on kinetic so I might just start with that type of loadout

This was a very popular approach for pvp, not as popular as it once was but still perfectly viable. It works well with Double shotted frag cannons.

I’ve been running a Stealth FGS for about 4-5 months now. I’ve perfected the build. It idles at 15% heat and boosts to 400.

I don’t share the build though. I’ll just say that it’s viable. Good luck.

Lasers are a big no no in stealth, even if the cooling effect sounds nice. If you are shooting, you are visible on sensors, and able to be targeted.

You want Plasmas, rails, frags, or cannons. Burst damage weapons like that will keep you invisible more often.

I like efficient plasmas myself.

Mastering the silent running toggle is essential. Look up CMDR Na'Qan on YouTube for some good examples of how to utilize it properly.

My builds aren't set in stone, Inara takes a snapshot of the ship when it was last used, vehicle hangar was there for some material collection. Docking computers come and go on my ships, depends on my mood.

Cheers
