Please no more data resets

It will be one more reset. Both when it comes to stats and our ingame credits,, Michael talked about this in the latest twitch.
When gamma kicks in.

But that will be the last, as gamma is threated as a pre-release and all thos kickstarter rewards will come as well.

And I doubt we will se any wipe during beta. Just when gamma comes.

Well, if FD are faced with an incompatibility to existing player "savegames", they will have a choice:

1. Spend X amount of man days mucking about trying to "migrate" from old version to new
2. Press the button marked RESET, and get back to actual game dev

I'm obviously in favour of option 2. :)

There will definitely be a wipe before the game goes into gamma/full release, if not for any reason other than to welcome new guys to the fold :)

How would you feel if you're the new guy, coming in for the first time, and then everyone is in a pimped out Anaconda/Viper/Cobra and you're only in a stock sidewinder just cuz they've been here since Alpha/PBeta/SBeta?

You wouldn't think that's very fair, would you?

:D

Its so sad :(

Look what consoles did to players these days!

You just test the a beta version of a game, this is not (only) supposed to have fun. If you cant stand this, wait for the final release.

Tbh : At the moment this forum is no fun. 50% of the Threads where whiny threads from ppl that lacks totaly in patiance and creativity.

The sidewinder is a fun little firework of a ship. What is so bad about experiencing it again after a new set of features come out?

Indeed... still, keep fighting the good fight! :D

I'm experiencing the sidewinder all the time because I keep taking on stronger ships, so it doesn't bother me - LOL!

I was interdicted by a couple of Cobras (NPCs), and I decided to take them on :p

I managed to take out the shields of one of them and got it's hull down to 60% (that took a while with some nifty flying) but I was down to 20% hull, so I rammed it with full engines and thrust and took it out  I was destroyed as well. But the important thing there is: I TOOK ON A COBRA WITH A SIDEWINDER AND DESTROYED IT!!! :D:D:D

The kill didn't register in my stats, though. I think it was because I was killed a split second before it blew up. That's not fair :(

Still counts in my demented mind, though! :D

I've got a fully kitted out cobra and nearly a million credits and I want a wipe before gamma!

Ever heard its the 'journey there' not the destination?

I love starting again with almost nothing and working my way up!

Besides, there will be loads of ways to make spondoolicks when the game is fully realised. :D

Hooray for elite!

That means, one on one, you'd now smoke an NPC Cobra, easy.

Who wouldn't? Do you want to fly the Sidewinder for ever?

The game will open up for you as you progress from ship to ship. It's only natural to want to develop. We don't have character stats to increase as you would in a conventional RPG so our ships and equipment are a surrogate for that.

I meant it as a somewhat rhetorical question - I guess I was trying to point out that buying the next ship isn't the equivalent of "levelling up" like you might in an MMO. The ships are tools suited for a purpose, just playing the game to get the most expensive one (and ammassing creds to boot) is rather missing the point.

That's what I was trying to get at really.

While The PvPers seem to want to blow anything and everyone away, I'm also dismayed at the number of people who equate game progress with the ship values like their levelling a Mage in WoW...

Toad.

:D

This is going to happen regardless. People who come to play in two years time will face exactly this scenario. It's not a valid argument really.
And everyone is using the term "it's not fair" on the newbies, so what? Life isn't fair. Is it fair on the person who only gets to play for a couple of hours a week to have to come into the verse facing others who have the time to grind away 24/7? We all start life with various advantages and disadvantages, why can't a game have mechanics that reflect that?
I'm not trying to start an argument here and I don't support carrying our development over into release, but maybe there should be more options than just starting at square 1 like there is now. That's cool in a single player game, but not so cool in a multiplayer one. A lot of games give you the ability to buy better equipment etc so you're not forced to start from scratch.
Regardless, I've done the grind in Elite since the mid 80's, one more won't make much difference! :D

It's fun to test things out at the moment when you know that it's all going to go at some point.

Believe me I wouldn't be seeing how combat efficient Hauler/Type-6 and Type-9 are in the actual game ;)

Enjoy the journey as well as the destination.

If you are not enjoying this part of the game, then I doubt having more credits will improve the experience for you.

Surely they sometimes need a data reset because they're still developing the game, and a new version may well make existing saves incompatible. For example, what happens when reputation is implemented? How do you decide what reputation players who've been playing for a few weeks should have? What if they decide to improve the specs of the Lakon-6 and increase the price. Do people who had already bought one end up having got a much better ship for a bargain price?

And while it is true that a year or two after release there will be new people buying the game who enter a world in which everyone else has a head start, at least everyone else has been playing the same game. It wouldn't be so fair if people who got the game as soon as it came out found that all the backers had a head start because they'd been able to earn much more money before piracy was fully implemented, or prices for ships and commodities had been finalised.

This. AFAIK, resets during development are primarily for technical reasons, and only secondarily, if at all, to ensure a level playing field between players.

I welcome a reset.

after a update the amount of credits you have are no longer representative of the current game economics.

I was able to reach 10 mil credits in four days.
that's way to fast.
and then the challenge is gone.

which results in bored players that start pestering others.
and than the grievers discussion starts again.

A reset also means a big update.
where game dynamics have changed.
I repeat,
the amount of credits earned is then no longer representative of the then current game economics.

There must be resets, each change they make to trading or combat cash flow should result in a wipe, how else can they judge how long it takes us to get too rich or too long to get anywhere.

...frend of mine always says "you can wish in one hand and shi* in the other to see which fills up faster."
Its Beta, there will be more wipes.
Luv OO
