General / Off-Topic Whos is biggest?

No not that, this is off-topic discussion. Comparing the size of those things is very much Dangerous Discussion!

I am talking about ignore lists. Who has used the feature the most. I'm at 428 and starting to think I'm no longer cut out for this place as certain threads are practically empty for me these days.

My list, names obviously removed for obvious reasons

Call me butthurt or whatever I don't really care. The main guiding rule I use is "Do I want to use my spare time to interact with this person?", if that's a no then on the list they go! I've been trying really hard lately not to respond to people who's comments I find distasteful or idiotic or whatever and simply to cut them out, not always managed it tbh. The only other people I put on the list are those who quit more than once. If your leaving then leave and don't be a drama queen every 30 minutes :p

Anyway, when I checked today I was rather surprised at the size of the list and wonder if I have the current record or not! Obviously someone could spend a few hours ignoring people to beat me if they were really that desperate but this is more curiosity than bragging rights :)

I just had a funny thought... If the only people who responded to this thread are on your list. You won’t know ! :p

Hey, can you see me?

Flimley

0. I used to have the guy that typed like a rasta on ignore, but undid it a couple weeks later.

Is someone talking? :D

And yes I can definitely see you, you are one of the people that consistently posts helpful posts with correct information, or tries to add to conversations/discussions and/or brings original ideas to the forums.

+3 Fimley points! :) <- Yes I remember those too

I do not ignore anyone
All men, even the most stupid, can teach you of things

Many times it's what NOT to do, is the important lesson learned!

True, although I get enough of that in the day job where I'm paid to put up with it!

Tied for last place in the thread ranking then! :)
And yeah me too, although sometime in mid 2017 I accidentally removed everyone from my ignore list with a misclick and everyone got a free pass. Not sure if I've seen and/or ignored him since, can't remember the name.

Edit:
Whose is biggest what, Flimley? Eyes? I don't understand your OP.

+1 rep... It took me a good 10 seconds for me to work this one out. Well played sir.

I had to check...

I guess I can't be bothered to go to the trouble of 'ignoring' someone, I just ignore them if they are posting rubbish... :D

Mine is nonexistent. Never had a reason to ignore anyone on this forum.
I've only ever muted the sound of spotty teenagers on Battlefield multiplayer when they start ranting and grunting in my ear or repeat the same word over and over, then its mute all.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Echo chambers are a real problem nowadays. It's far too easy to shield yourself from opposing viewpoints and perspectives, and that leads to intellectual stagnation.

That is true but I try my best not to ignore people based on opinion. It's true maybe 70-80% of those I ignore hold certain viewpoints I dislike but generally its how they make their view that I disapprove of.

To take a recent example there was a particular un-named member of the forum who commented on the Holo-advertisement thread with the equivalent of a 1 line post saying they wanted content in 3.1. From that description you can probably find it tbh. Not my intent but a very good example of what I am talking about.
My only reaction to this is one of confusion. I cannot work out why they'd spend the time to post about their dislike for something completely unrelated. Do they expect a Dev response? Do they expect things to change? Do they expect everyone to rise up and agree like an army that will follow them?

Actually the post above is a decent example too if I can be as direct as saying that.

In the end the only thing I can boil it down to is a low effort attempt to stick the middle finger up at people and try to provoke a reaction. My first thought was to reply with a sarcastic comment about hoping the forum gets better users with 3.1, this was one of the events I managed to delete the post before pressing send and simply ignored them.

On the other hand I've had several arguments/discussions/heated conversations with people about certain things. Jump range creep is one of my biggest irritations in the game, I even set about doing a race run from Sol to Beagle Point to prove a point. That being said I don't recall having ignored anyone for holding the opposite viewpoint, I get the arguments, I just hold a different viewpoint that boils down to our interpretation of what Elite is and should be.
I also distinctly remember ignoring someone who was debating how combat logging is bad vs a person who was advocating it. Agreed entirely with the posters opinion but the way they made it was direct bordering on aggressive.

Anyway, food for thought but I don't believe I'm in an echo chamber.... At least not yet anyway since the list is growing still :)

Opposing viewpoints and perspectives are fine, but if I find that these are expressed at a level I simply refuse to stoop down to, that person gets blocked and frankly, my intellectual prowess thanks me for it, because I now have more time to stimulate it with something more worthy of it. Like books, for example. This is, after all, a forum for a video game, so all things considered, I honestly doubt I'm missing out that much.

By all means. You are of course, entitled to your opinion.

However, when people start ignoring you for having one, don't get upset.

It says more about them, than it does about you.
