Opposing viewpoints and perspectives are fine, but if I find that these are expressed at a level I simply refuse to stoop down to, that person gets blocked and frankly, my intellectual prowess thanks me for it, because I now have more time to stimulate it with something more worthy of it. Like books, for example. This is, after all, a forum for a video game, so all things considered, I honestly doubt I'm missing out that much.
I agree to a point, the bit about just a forum for video games however I have to disagree. I have very fond memories from 1.1 / 1.2 era where threads like this were the norm:
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/421287-Lore-General-Questions
Back then there were a lot of really wide open questions about history, living in 3301, technology, culture. Some real deep discussions, thought thought provoking responses about what could be and why it could happen that way. Then the offical lore from Drew and Frontier, digesting snippets we had and working out theories and guessing what was coming. Definitely one of the key reasons I stuck around as long as I have. Threads like the one I linked above are now very rare and often lay quite forgotten with merely a handful of responses when the usual "Game is doomed give me some attention" posts get 10+ pages of catfighting and bitterness. Quite a sad outlook for intelligent discussion whichever way you cut it
