"The game is almost a political and social experiment.”

If you dont consider the time spent flying in SC in a straight line DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING except watching the destination counter or the loading screens aka hyperspace, you will see that the amount spent actually playing the game is marginally small.

Odd way to play - less your going deep exploring ?
Otherwise maybe get a better jump range ?
I spend most of my time in elite either on planets exploring bases, thargoids structures, gaurdians ruins etc or fighting and dodging around stuff in space - pirates ,thargoids other commanders etc
Whatever ship I'm in I minimize journey time and get to where the action I'm interested in as quick as possible.
More ingame info and stuff happening would be nice - but, it's not hard to find something to get mixed up in.

Recommend you spend less time flying to destinations in SC then. For me SC time might even be single % digits.

I think you may have been reading too much depressing Russian literature. About drowning dogs for fun. It's distorting your value-of-time perceptions, perhaps.

And, I'm an explorer/trader, who spends most of his time travelling in super-cruise, or waiting on jump screens.

That game is called Real Life.

Well for me they were called Daggerfall,Everquest and EvE - the three other games apart from original Elite that I have found to actually be enjoyable at launch. (all but Daggerfall got worse over time as they were "improved").

Subnautica is a very well done and inovative game, that I have no desire whatsover to own or play. I would much rather play Aquanox or Soma if going underwater.
Elite is pretty much the only game I play nowadays, it has a few clunky things - but I'm actually more worried that any changes (especially those that many here look for) would actually make it less enjoyable for me and might actually drive me away.
Tastes differ and all - but, I wish just one game I like would stay reasonably "hard"

Wow lol I totally caught the back end of that post wrong and thought "yeah me too buddy, me too".

Three games I would not enjoy. I've tried the FTP EVE, and did not find it very much fun. Also, my co-workers who played EVE were the kind of people you never turned your back on. Backs were kept to walls when they were present. And, escape routes had been scouted.

I am not a number!

I reckon if you look at individual ED mechanics, sure they might not add up to all that much on their own (essentially a proc gen necessity) but when you look at how many mechanics there are; explore, trade, smuggle, pirate, eng, srv, megaship, bgs, pp, tech broker, tharg, guard, wing, mp, cg's, datapoints, uss, mine + buckyball/rats .. that's 20 items .. suddenly there are up to 20! (factorial) combinations of those. That's 2.432902008 E+18 combinations!! (20 x 19 x 18 x 17 ...)

So you're either into it .. or your not .. but ED is definitely more than one inch deep.

Yup, as I say tastes vary and the games industry should be big enough to accomodate all - sadly they chase the big bucks and we get what's "popular" - so we get Star wars Battlefront2, World of Warcraft or Assasins creed origins - which are fine and all - just not to my tastes very much.
Bearing in mind I built my first computer -a zx80 (not even a zx81) so I could code the rules from star fleet battles into it ....... and I enjoyed doing that.
And you should indeed never turn your back on me... and i've already booby trapped the escape routes :p

How much assets does ED have? I don't mean amount of copies of those.

Models? What would it be? 200? I think it is below 400 with all asteroid types included.
Textures?
Animations?[big grin]
Even gameplay mechanics.

And which amount of those is finished? Visuals? Soundrack? Good, what else?

And what is being added to the game which is not as minimalistic as possible? Take engineers, why they aren't made as a ship p0r17, which would be logical? Why they are made as a some kind of fantasy enchanting?

What is there to even talk about? ED is not an AAA game, and it shows little movement to that status.
And this game having unquestionable potential to become one, and coupled with ED having monopoly on some set of characteristics, makes this situation outright insulting.

I know, budget of this game is about 15 million. And that is a pathetic excuse, considering it made about 105 mil on launch alone. So OP is quite right.

ED may be galactic in comparison but its sheer size makes if feel empty of anything worthwhile other than injected events, spoilers via Galnet or CGs. Despite FD's hint that something is out there waiting to be discovered (either by sheer luck or someone hacking asset files), ED (imo still lacks engaging content). Yet I still enjoy playing ED in the hope I eventually get a game I signed up for (albeit online). :)

That's the tradeoff though isn't it. Just going by spaceship game sub genre's you have different levels of sheer scale compared to smaller detailed stuff.

ED is astronomically vast, not much in the way of small detail no player campaign an excellent flight model.
X-series limited free roam very good mogulling, terrible flight model, simplistic campaigns.
X-wing/freespace detailed campaign storyline/voice acting good flight model nothing else at all.

Horses for courses, you just can't get it all into one game at a decent standard. The winning move is to play them all.

Poor Mumu :(

EDIT: By the way, you know our group has nothing to do with that story and everything to do with the KLF and The Illuminatus Trilogy.

Fnord!

The winning move is to play them all.

War Games tought me the only winning move was to not play at all.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENT 2: - are you blind? are you really going to say there's "nothing on the horizon that fills the space cup the way ED does" with NMS (for explorers) getting some pretty good updates, X4 on the way for all the "empire builders", oh yeah and err there's this thing in development called hmm what was it..... oh some indie development called err.... wait *Snaps fingers* yup that's it "Star Citizen" - some dudes with a bit of cash are making this space sim, that has massive ships and first person movement and planetary bases you can WALK AROUND, and ground vehicles, and allsorts of other good stuff - it's not out yet but umm, it looks like it might be PRETTYMINDBLOWINGFORSPACEHEADS when it is.

NMS - nah, too cartoony for my exploration needs. I like the realism of ED for my exploration itch. NMS is getting better, but still not quite tempted to buy yet. Might do one day, but its no way a replacement for ED.

X4 - Kind of meh on this one. I've done the space empire thing in X, X:BTF, X2, and by X3 i was pretty bored of it.

Star Citizen - Well, i might be dead before that is in a releasable state, and looking how its going, its not going to be a good game even if it reaches release. Might be ok, not sure. Will see if they do make a release in my lifetime. Can always jump in and ram people sitting on the pads in their thousands dollar ships for the lulz. No modes for people to hide in! (come on 90skid - rep me!). :D

Not to derail - but Star Citizen I think will have a hard time living up to itself, what I've played of the beta's did have a Wing Commander "feel" to them - so that's probably a plus (though not for me - not my cup of tea) but with the time and money invested in it by the fans - the game could be the best ever created and it won't satisfy them now - if you think this forum is bad......
The griefers will love it though - that much I think is pretty clear to see even now - real life money ships on the line ,to be destroyed or stolen......
I hope by some miracle it does come out and do well though - and then I might get Elite to myself again ;)
