Need ingame hotkey for relative control

I almost bought a HOTAS, but in the end I decided to stick to KB/M and I'm really enjoying it and managing well in dogfights (though most NPCs are not much of a challenge at the moment).

However, I much prefer the absolute/normal control mode when FA is on, but the relative control with FA is off. So it would be great if we could map a hotkey to switch to relative control while in game.

Or, even better, if we could set an option that switches to the relative control mode when you turn FA off.

Do you mean relative to your target?

No. If you go into the control options you will see in the mouse section something called relative control which can be toggled on and off.

In normal/absolute mode you move the cursor to the edge of the screen and you will keep moving in that direction (you don't need to keep moving the mouse, just hold it there). You will stop moving in that direction when you recentre the mouse/cursor. The closer you move the cursor to the edge of the screen/HUD, the faster you will move in that direction.

In relative mode you have to keep moving the mouse to continue moving in a particular direction (until you run out of mouse mat). When you release the mouse, the cursor will automatically recentre and you will stop moving.

I very much doubt that the mechanic that you are requesting there will ever be implemented. It is flight assist off mode. That is you have to manually input all thrust controls to counter any current motion.

So when you say in flight assist off you want to move the mouse left and it moves left, but automatically stops when you stop moving the mouse, you are in fact describing a flight assisted manoeuvre because you haven,t applied a thrust to the right to counter current motion. If absolute mouse control requires you to centre the cursor to bring your ship to a stop, then actually it is already in relative motion mode because you had to apply left thrust followed by equal right thrust to stop moving.

NB I talked about left/right thrust but feel free to read as yaw left/right or roll left/right or pitch up/down etc.

I don't think you understand me. I fully understand how the ship moves with FA off. There is already a relative mode/mechanic in place (please reread both of my posts). I just want to be able to switch to it when I turn off FA (without having to go into the game control options). Relative mode is much easer for controlling your ship with FA off because you don't have to keep recentring the mouse to stop applying movement in a certain direction.

If you don't understand what I'm talking about try both modes with a mouse with FA off.

have you tried binding the mouse to pitch & roll? (or yaw and roll on kb) instead of using mouse mode? I confess however I have not played with the latest settings, and I hated the ship "chasing the cursor" so the first thing I did with kbm was bind the mouse movements instead, for fine tuning aim with pitch and yaw, and having pitch and roll on kb as well so I didn't have to drag the mouse around. I now however use a joystick/kb.

I think most of posters here do not understand what was requested in the OP. OP has requested a simple toggle between absolute and relative mouse modes. But I do not see it being implemented as might give significant advantage to the mouse. There are threads requesting automatic relative mouse mode toggle for FA OFF mode though.

As a reply to other posts there definitely won't be a "chase the mouse" mode.

No offence guys, but please don't comment if you have no idea about the different control methods now available for mouse (there are two modes: absolute and relative). Or try them first and then comment. It's very difficult to explain otherwise.

I have no problem flying and dogfighting with FA on and using the normal/absolute mode, which is my preferred control mode. I can also fly the ship ok (but not great) with FA off and using the normal/absolute mode, but the relative control mode allows me to be much precise when FA is off.

All I want is to be able to switch between the two control modes without having to go into the control menu.

Thanks for understanding me :)

Yes, this is what I was requesting.
