Newcomer / Intro On my way to Maia

But as you use the fuel the mass of fuel decreases.
So does the original journey plot take this into account?
Or does it limit each hop distance to the original mass calculation?

It does take this into account, it assumes you do not refuel until the last scoopable star. I scoop at pretty much all stars I can and occasionally but rarely this will mean I can't make one of the jumps originally plotted. You then just have to open the GalMap and it re-plots the route. However, this is pretty rare in my experience.

Good question. I, of corse, have absolutely no idea :D :D :D

As for the A scoop, yes I can afford one although half my credit balance will be chewed into. Still, that's what it's all about and I'm sure I'll recoup it back.

Incidentally, I'm seeing a lot of systems (in that loooong distance journey) having an icon with what looks like a spanner in it. Is that important or should I just wait for the surprise upon arrival?

Yes but not as important as the similar redder icon with a bar instead of a spanner, those can be hazardous.

If you look in your Galaxy Map and go to the fifth tab you will see the names of the icons which are a clue.

The 4B scoop is less than 50kg/s slower than the 4A and 2.1 million cheaper, a useful saving.

Brief summary of how it works.

If plotting a route with multiple jumps using the gal map: Route plotter calculates each hop based on mass with the maximum fuel load

Single jump plotting is based on current fuel mass.

@Op- there are plenty of bases and asteroid stations en-route to Maia.

Thanks everyone, I'm in system on the station orbiting Darnielles. Next steps are to store a module or two, grab a cargo rack, land, procure some MA then high-tail it back to Fe hoping for minimal interdictions and doing Brave Sir Robins if molested. Cheers!

You mis-spelt Hyperdictions :D

Yep, just one, so I'll fit a minimal rack. My Cobra diesn't have any atm, just set up for exploration and an SRV for funsies.

Erm... "hyperdictions". Are they A Thing in that I'll be hounded all the way to Hades? *gulp*

Being pulled out of hyperspace jumps (as opposed to the normal supercruise) by Thargoids. If things start looking erratic during a jump, followed by complete stop and loss of all systems, that's a hyperdiction. A thargoid will show up, scan you and then go away while your ship powers up again. A bit alarming the first time it happens but nothing to be afraid of (yet?). Hyperdictions are more likely to happen in that area.

Phew. Didn't get any of THOSE! Got more interdictions than normal though "there's that ship with the big haul I was waiting for" or something... chase that escape vector! Still, I'm back in Deciat now so hopefully have a landing excursion later, No time right now. Not that I'm chomping at the bit or anything...

Edit: so a hyperdiction doesn't mean a fight? I remember in the original game there were more often than not three if the blighters to contend with. Mind you, combat was much easier then anyway...

Yea when it happens it will be VERY different than any interdiction you had before. My pulse was racing as my whole ship went offline.
When my systems rejuiced I hit contacts to see "0001110001110001" as the ship IDs. I was cocky and fired on one of the 3. Then I high waked out as fast as I could having no AX weapons whatsoever on board. I had just hit a few barnacle forests and they interdicted me 4x on my journey out of the Pleides region.

Congrats on getting it done! This is something I have to do this weekend...were you able to just purchase the MA at Darnielles, or did you have to go harvest it locally? Frankly I'd be happy to just buy it at an outpost if that's a thing still?

Purchased at Darnielle's. Not cheap but everything is relative - about 110k. Made five times that on exploration en route so can't complain :). When I got back to Fe, she wants some... stuff... for the upgrade to my FSD. Once I find out how to get the stuff, I think I'll upgrade the scanner.

All a learning curve but the guide to the route to Maia is an absolute god send (earlier in this thread and thank you thank you thank you!). Bookmark the steps for a quick journey back but be prepared for more interdictions than you may be usec to - the scum are out to pirate you!

I'm guessing she needs this stuff. All of the wake echoes, trajectories, etc. come from scanning high wakes with a wake scanner. Equip one and find a famine state system; go to the distribution center and scan all of the wakes. Arsenic you'll need to find on a planet. There's one with a decently high % of arsenic in Deciat. Chemical processors/manipulators can be found in unidentified signal sources (USS).

Make sure that you pin the long range FSD blueprint. This way you can use the upgrade other ships without needing to go see Felicity. Though you do need to see her to get the experimental effect applied.

Welcome to materials and data collection for engineers :)
.
This can be a bit of a grind if you decide to go all out for it but if you collect data and materials all the time then you will get most of what you need through your normal activities. E.g. fit a wake scanner and scan wakes every time you leave dock and you will build up all the wake data you need. Scan NPCs while in supercruise and you will collect data from them. Mining is a great source of minerals but failing that shooting rocks on the surface gets you these. Anything you don't have you can click on it and it will tell you more or less where to get it, a few hints and tips on the forums will speed things up though.
