Crime and Punishment needs a serious overhaul

Doing the latest CG. Popped into a HazRes. Deployed my fighter. Found a suitable target. Scanned and started firing. As I started moving toward the target, an idiot NPC rams into me from above. Naturally he gets hit by my gunfire. And I get a 200cr fine. Not to mention I'm locked out of doing anything until i pay the fine. this is just absolutely stupid. I play games to have fun. At every step, fdev keeps taking away the fun. its pathetic.

Unfortunately, you will discover this is one of a never-ending stream of threads where the commander didn't maintain a decent lookout for what was going on around him.

As your experience increases, these kinds of incidents in your combat life will decrease ..... unless you don't learn from them !

Sorry for your experience, but Elite Dangerous combat really is dangerous if you don't maintain situational awareness.

I totally agree, the threshold for friendly fire needs increasing and we need the ability to pay small bounties off without visiting an interstellar factor. It's possible to attain small bounties a few different ways and as it stands the punishment doesn't fit the crime.

I've even heard of NPC crew members getting cmdrs bounties due to accidental fire and there's no amount of "situational awareness" or "trigger finger discipline" that can stop that. I'm sure I read somewhere that this is getting worked on for the next update so hopefully it will be changed.

Why does everyone who starts threads like this insist that the NPC rammed them? If you didn't see the other craft, perhaps you cut across their established flight path in your zeal to charge at your target? I've never had a single combat collision with a ship I wasn't attacking.

FD are monitoring and planning to adjust the FF/colision thresholds.

You're not 'locked out of doing anything', dry your tears, spend 5min paying your fine, and fly better.

The times it's happened to me I've been completely stationary and the NPC's flown directly across the path of gunfire. OP seems to have had a similar experience except they actually flew into him. Also you're wrong about being locked out. Currently if you have a bounty, of any amount (200CR+) you are locked out of all services at the station and have to fly to an I.F. to clear said 200CR bounty before you can use it again. In effect this prevents you from doing pretty much anything in that system.

People aren't bringing this up just to have a moan. We want to see the game improved and be more enjoyable for everyone to play.

Am I the only one that locates an isf when planning a mission or activity? OK I accept it is 10 minutes not 5 but, you know planning. I think the OP took longer to write.

You will get the usual idiotic response of trigger discipline and situational awareness - which of course helps, but does not solve this issue for the multitude of posibilities and events. It is a problem. Whether there is a technical solution, who knows. It has always been an issue, but with the new C&P is a bit more a pain in the backside.

I agree with the others, based on my own experiences. I used to think the NPC's would get in the way, etc, but strangely enough the more you play the game/experience combat, the less the NPC's decide to get in your way. To the point that it just stops happening and I can't remember the last stray hit. Keep at it, mate

I had issues with situational awareness when first learning pew pew, I was almost totally tunnel blind. Spent two solid weeks doing pew pew in high res with a lot of asteroids, lighted portions first, graduating to darker unlite when I got better. Chasing pilot of any kind in and around asteroids teachs one to break their tunnel vision very quickly. Once broken my situational awarness increased dramatically and my friendly fire went to zero.

Similar thing happened to me except:

I popped open the map and looked for the nearest low sec (green) with large pop. Hopped in, paid my 200 and went about my business. Took little time at all. Since the target didn't die, no noteriety.

Misfires happen even if you are aware. It is called an accident for a reason, but it isn't the end of the world that people make it out to be.

BTW, I do agree that it is silly that one hit gets you a 200 cr fine and wanted rather than just a 200 credit fine and a harsh speaking to. NPCS hit me all the time and nothing happens to them.

Well i did not even get a fine for attacking, i was fighting the pirate while his victim got shot by him. its possible that 1 bullet of the multicannon did hit the npc ( cause they take longer ) but i did always trigger off if a clean flys to my line o fire.
so now i got a 5000C bounty without doin something wrong.

On the other side all kill bountys i got that way through bugs or friendly fire.

Nope. Read the OP again: "As I started moving toward the target, an idiot NPC rams into me from above." I read this as - as I accelerated into the path of another ship while singularly focused on my target.

And no, I'm not wrong about the OP's claim that "I'm locked out of doing anything until i pay the fine.". I'm well aware he's locked out of using services at one (possibly more) stations - hardly the definition of 'doing anything' now is it. One of the many things he could do while the station services are locked, is make that quick trip to a nearby IF. But oh the horror!

Yeah, happend to me a few times lately. Where exactly is the problem?
Its a fine. Just keep going. A fine is not a bounty. You wont be attacked for a fine. You can just pay it of when it is relevant, meaning: when you dock in a station of the juristiction that applied the fine. Outside of these stations the fine is completly meaningless.
What exactly is it that you are 'locked out' of?

Will people stop referring to the latest offering from FDEV as Crime and Punishment.

I know they marketed it as that but it was just Punishment and Punishment.

They are still yet to do any actual work towards making crime rewarding.
