Asynchronous spacewarp issues

Yep. The same happens to me as well. In stations with the services menu open. Sometimes re-starting my PC has fixed it. I did downgrade my graphics drivers...can't remember what to. I had to downgrade because the rift would not come back on after I took it off.

I now restart my pc right before starting Elite and do not see the issue.

...I can't even imaging a scenario where a 1080Ti would ever go above the 18 ms. GPU render time threshold (at least on VR low) which is the root-cause of this problem. Does this problem happen for you even on the lowest VR graphical setting? Are you running a Steam copy of the game or a copy bought from the Oculus store?

Neither. Kickstarter - always use Frontier's launcher. Guess I'll have to try some different settings... :7
Don't know how much of what you describe falls on FDev's desk - sounds like there should be some hysteresis to the switch treshold, with ATW handling the >11 to <18ms cases... :7

@Addi9k, I've found pretty much the same thing. The juddering seems to come from when the ASW is kicking in and out and not able to maintain the full 90 fps. So if I set my graphics setting high enough it will basically force ASW to lock in and stay in around station, in the menus and on the surface. As long as I don't set them so high that the GPU can't maintain a minimum of 45 fps. This largely gets rid of the artifacting and juddering and has the side benefit of making the game look much better. One thing I haven't tried is to run ASW all the time, but I'm not having any real issues running the game now so I don't have a lot of incentive to do this.

...
That's it. All any of us can do right now is just try to get this issue in front of someone at FDev that can start working on a solution.

Addi9k - thanks for all your work on this topic. I just want to pick up on CylonSurfers comment.

Please make an official bug report - go here and copy paste your findings in a new thread that the devs will read.

Yes please do that - the thread is being ignored and needs more traction. I have just opened a ticket with Frontier asking them how the QA team can continue to actively ignore ALL reports of this issue and have being doing so for months. Threads such as that one have been moved to obscurity or closed rather than being looked at or replied to. Something is amiss both in the game for VR players and with the QA teams behaviour towards such reports.

I'm also having issues, Using a Samsung Odyssey WMR headset, i believe there are some problems in ELite and the higher resolution of the headset makes it worse
I have an MSI gaming Laptop I7 GTX 1070, should not be having any issues! but i am, and the frame rates are over the place. seriously suspect this is Fdev related as i
have no issues in other game..
.
PS Fdev, im in the UK and will happily take a day off work, bring my whole rig and Samsung Oddesy headset (Not available in UK unless you import) for you to test!

I have also now raised a Bug Report...... Anyone else having problems please do the same!
.
Since I bought a Smansug Oddesy WMR VR headset something has not made any sense with the frame rates in ED VR.
My gaming machine is an MSI GT72VR 6RE DOMINATOR PRO i7 Gen 6 GTX 1070 PCi gen 3 SSD
.
The specs should have no issues running VR and in fact, all other games I play at max settings are smooth throughout.
I have been thinking it is due to the higher resolution of the Odessey I was having issues or maybe as its a Windows Mixed Reality headset and Fdev have not caught
up with the new tech.

BUT after reading the awesome work here https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/419059-Asynchronous-spacewarp-issues done by Cmdr Addi9k
I decided to do something insane last night.

Till now I have been running with all the settings low or off, SS @ 0.65 and HMD @ 1.25 this gives no stuttering but you can "See" micro jumps as though its missing frames when slowly cruising past planets in supercruise. and the text is a little blurred and overall experience a bit naff.

If I go to 1.5 HMD then the quality of the text is great things look better but it stutters entering the toast rack at stations and in combat situations, so unplayable.
I have not really "Played" the game in over a month, as I have tried every setting both in steam and windows and ED I could think of.

I have reinstalled windows and all my drives twice. Ran the laptop with NOTHING other than ED, Steam VR and Windows installed. Still the same issue. HMD @ 1.5 kills it.
I have even tried the new Windows ASW found here https://steamcommunity.com/games/719950/announcements/detail/1652133167137673234
The first time it just killed the game, then tried it again after a rebuild and seemed to make no difference.
.
So back to my insanity - After reading the info from Addi9k I decided it's not just a WMR Odessey higher resolution issue but more general.
.
I set Ed VR to HIGH / ULTRA setting and turned on windows ASW with SS @ 1.0 and HMD @ 1.5.................
.
It should have fallen over, it should have melted into a lump of existential goop... but in dint....
.
It played and it played WELL, perfect no, but better
.
No stutter of planets as you fly by, no stutter entering the station, graphics and text all look fantastic.
Fighting 8 Thargoid scouts in an NHSS threat 5 I do get SOME stuttering but not as much, and suspect at those setting I may well be pushing
my rig too far, but I can live with it, as compared to low settings it is at least 75% better ... which make NO SENSE, Unless .... something is wrong with VR in ED
.
Of note, I believe the issue is CPU bound and not GPU bound
My Old config, as you can see CPU is being slaughtered

Finally I have a reply - if you have this issue can you please reply to the QA team here:
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/409609-Poor-Performance-in-VR?p=6652247#post6652247

Interesting. I suffer the same problem, only I can't even disable ASW at all, neither with the debug-, nor tray tool (it says on the overlay panel that it switches to whatever I set it to, but actual results remain the same), and get the smearing, lagging, warping, stuttering, etc, everywhere, with every application, no matter how light load it is (on a 1080Ti). :7

Hope to see this sorted out.

In my testing.
If your performance drops low enough ASW will be triggered regardless of settings.

So I've been having these kind of issues since taking a short break from the game. During my break, I sold my Pimax 4k BE headset and figured I would just use my Rift to tide me over until my 8k arrives ..

I was previously using Elite with the Pimax via SteamVR, but I uninstalled it from steam, got an Oculus key and installed the native rift version. the game was jittery as all heck and I would also see 'flashes' where the black would flicker to a green/gray color every so often

Long story short. I installed a clean copy of the latest version of windows 10 to a spare SSD and installed only 388.59 Nvidia, Oculus Software and Elite and the game runs smooth as silk

Any idea what could be up with my original disk? I don't particularly want to start from scratch again on my normal boot drive because I have a lot of other stuff installed and re-installing and re-setting up everything is going to be a pain. I would rather install a hot-swap sata bay and swapping out SSDs if I want to play elite than do that... ideal solution is to somehow figure out what's causing my frame drops on the main SSD

Not sure it is the disk, more likely some patch or update or driver install went in the wrong way and the fresh windows install sorted it.
Have heard and experienced this myself on more than one occasion.

Yeah, something is definitely wrong somewhere, I set VR to low and SS and HMD to .50 and it's still appalling - weird thing is, everything else on this PC seems to work just fine. I'm watching the system resources out from under my headset and every time it pauses and resumes, I see two/three of my cpu threads go to 100% and then drop again.

I ended up getting a 3.5" hot-swap tray from Fry's for $15 that way I just shut down, boot into this other SSD to play Elite and then back again for everything else. This will do until I get my new rig built from scratch on new hardware in a month or two (depending on the ETA of my Pimax)

I'm running GTX 1080 and a I7 6700k and I don't run the HMD settings at 1.5. I don't really notice on the RIft (the Samsung might) any difference between HMD 1.25 and 1.5. The GTX 1070 is just not that powerful when it comes to VR performance and this game. I wish it was otherwise, but that's the limitations. Most of my settings on the 1080 are set to high.
