Suggestion for chatting in VR

dont know if this was discussed allready, but some kind of a pull down menu with the most common phrases used in Chat would be great and make things for us VRers much more easier. Maybe in the way Square it did in FFXIV, where you can set several text modulars in an analogous way behind each other.

I don't know why people don't just 'open a channel' and speak to each other.

I would love to see some improvements on VR interface usability, but don’t have high hopes it will happen. Some people use dash vr keyboard, I don’t know how to use. I have a few standard greetings linked in voice attack, it works well, but very limited.

VA should be able to actually take dictation. I've never tried it myself though.

But that's just the tiny percentage using HMDs, and not all of them will have the mic turned on.

The thread is titled "Suggestion for chatting in VR".
I think it is safe to assume an HMD is involved at the least.

Besides. Voice com has been the order of the day for almost as long as online gaming.
Cause frankly text typing doesn't work fast or well enough.
Every single, half serious group for online play will tell you you need voice coms or not bother to apply.

It doesn't take a lot either. You can find perfectly functioning cheap microphones for <$5 in bargain stores.

Yeah, the person with the HMD has a mic, but 99% of the people he can chat with don't have an HMD. Sure, a lot have mics, but a lot don't. The quote you were responding to was about people you meet, not yourself.

In my experience, before I got an HMD, most players preferred to use text chat. I'd ask for a voice channel if I winged up with them, but unless I was with regular wingmates, most didn't want to use voice, or couldn't. But they could receive voicecomms.

And even today, if I watch some ED videos on youtube, it is still mostly text chat except for in regular group wings.

Anyway, the correct answer, as BigDuke6ixx pointed out, is to just send a voicecomms request. Even if they are receive only and still texting themselves, you don't need to be bothered with it.

I have 4 or 5 responses set as Macros on my X52 pro but it feels very underwhelming, but one of them says "I'm in VR Wing n chat if you like"

Like you sir i employ VA and pre-composed scripts to transmit via Txt, what i need to say. If i am Pirating i have Pirate 1-5 covering all i want to say during and after a Pirating interdiction. If i am Bounty hunting, again i have Bounty 1-6, with all the commands and Txt i need.

I also have a PvP 1-7 script, and a general set of scripts for just bumping into another cmdr in SC/system jump.

They are easy to setup, and Ultra easy to work i just say 'Pirate/Bounty 1' The most difficult part of this is learning what each command is, but they go in logical sequence, with the *** 1 being the first warning/command and ***6 being the Thank you.

VA is a wonderful tool, you just have to use your imagination and the Galaxy is yours. A GODSEND for VR users!!

I'm going to boil you up!
