I think it may have been a team; one to prevent you from landing and one to shoot you from just outside the station.

Are you 100% sure ramming other ships inside the station is legitimately defending one's Super Power's honor? Commander Bob Lighthouse made an assessment I'm more than willing to test out. Maybe you should as well before trying to bleach trolling behaviors in-game, aye?
When it comes to warfare, who cares how it gets done as long as at the end of the day your enemy is in the ground?
Put on your big boy pants, take some personal responsibility, work on your technique and quit insulting people for playing the game just because you lack the skill to cope with it

Only FDev is to blame for still not having Ramming Telemetry in place. That's a conscious Design Decision with a purpose.
(even the Notoriety by ramming to death was removed)
So in terms of the ELITE in-game world, ramming is a failsafe, fairly easy and risk-free way to Gank Ships. Indefinitely. Working as Intended(tm).

They've answered that a few times, if they could accurately track who was doing what they'd be providing the world with infallible traffic enforcement and not messing around with internet spaceships.
Maybe removing all ramming damage, and replacing it with a comedy "boing" noise is the way forward.
I've played an MMO where that was actually the way that ramming was dealt with. Well not the comedy boing noise sadly, but the complete absence of damage to either party. Believe me, of all the words I saw used to describe it, 'successful', 'fun' and 'sensible' didn't feature high on the list and at least in that game there were genuine reasons that necessitated it, primarily do with hitboxes and ship models. I could see more than a few players having a 'Scanners'* moment if it was ever introduced here.
*Obviously the forum's age rating prevents me from uploading the gif but I'm sure you know the one I'm thinking of

My suggestion may not have been entirely serious.
Having said that I played a racing game years ago where you could pick up a powerup that gave you an enormous cartoon mallet you could biff people with in a truly hilarious way, best PVP ever.

Hey that was me!! I just watched the video over again and I had followed you away from the station, took some shots at you but your shield soaked it up, i thought too late you will wake so headed back to station. You came back and sat outside while i shot at you, then your shields started to fail and you panic, I follow you in and ram you but the final ram was you into the station.
