Horizons Can't see USS in galaxy map.

I have done something wrong, I think.
Scanning for HG USS in federation systems in election.

Traveling across the system at high speed I see USS up top right.
Hit 1 on keyboard, but USS is not showing up.
Is this a setting in galaxy map or a bug?

I don't think USS (unidentified signal source) show on either Galaxy or System maps.

Instead, when you see a USS in top right, open up your left panel (navigation) and you should see "unidentified signal source" listed with the planets and stars in your current system (it will be close to you). Select as a target there, then you can scan the USS to see what threat level before you approach it.

Thanks for the info. I have used the wrong words.
I did mean the navigation panel.
I have resolved the issue by making everything in the Galaxy map to be visible. (Mase the USS show up in Nav Panel)

I will change the Gal map to just show the Fed in Election later to see if it has an adverse effect in the Nav panel.
Don't see why it should. Probably just a short term bug.

Maybe a bug (and good - for everyone - if you do keep an eye on, report if necessary) but it does sound like you had USS filtered out, to not show on the nav panel. I've done the same before by accident and resetting those filters fixed that issue for me ever since.

Hmm. Those two things should not be connected. USS do not show on the Galaxy map so the filters there are irrelevant. The navigation panel filters are completely separate. Unless you adjusted both at the same time, you may be seeing a connection where none exists.

Exactly how fast are you travelling through the system? At very high speeds you can overshoot a new USS very quickly, and if there are lots of other bodies nearby (multiple gas giant systems) the USS can quickly bubble down the list. If you're going flat out, it's quite possible for the USS to go completely out of range by the time you've noticed the New Signal Source message.

Slightly related .... I believe the faster you travel, the narrower your cone of visibility for USSs. Slow gives a wide scan, fast a narrow one. Unless it's my imagination.

I have found that the message "New signal source found" will precede the visual appearance of a USS by a second or two, so if you keep an eye on the upper right info panel, as soon as that message shows, slow down and use the Nav panel to tag the new USS for scanning. It may take a second or two for the new USS to appear in the Nav panel listing. This is very useful when booking it full tilt through a system, or when the USS appears outside the visual field of view -- you can even tag USSs that you have passed by.

As long as the USS is able to be selected in the Nav panel you can tag it and turn around to claim it. You cannot pass it by a large margin, nor at high speed, as it will then be out of reach of the Nav listing, but if you slow down quickly and select it in Nav, it will not "dissipate" even if passed.

A common scenario is the "New signal source" message appears while running at full throttle, but the USS is so close that it will be overrun even if you throttle down to zero. If you select it in the Nav panel, you can pass it, even by a fair distance, then loop back to claim it. I've done this many times.

Oh you just mean select it in the nav panel -that's what I do all the time, looking for HGEs I just cruise around at 50% throttle and keep an eye on the notices and then go to nav and select, saves a lot of mucking about. Sorry for not getting your meaning right away.
