Newcomer / Intro Camera setup with Joystick issues-Need HELP

Using a logitech Extreme Pro stick and cannot figure out how to match this to Camera suite options for easy use....Flying my ADDER half-blind is killing my gameplay and I see all these great ED videos where players have these awesome views of the Space surrounding their ship.

Any pointers would be appreciated.[heart]

In the Controls settings there is a Free camera section. You can bind the joystick axes to the camera movement, similarly to how you bind them to the ship's controls. (Pitch, yaw, roll, lateral and horizontal movement, etc.)
You also need to bind a button which switches between camera control and ship control while in the camera mode. (When in camera control mode, the ship will follow the last controls input) There is also a binding for pinning the camera either to a ship or to the environment (for fly-bys)
Lastly don't forget to bind a button or key for entering/exiting the camera mode and for switching between pre-set camera angles and a button to turn the camera HUD on and off. (you need to get rid of the HUD for screenshots)

There's a lot of it. The easiest way is to just go to some nice place and experiment. :)

Thanks for input guys....Guess experimenting for best camera solutions is best...Using mouse for the HeadLook and a combo of the Function keys and Joystick for Free camera use... Way too many options IMHO.. But I will figure out something.. Cheers

I have to say that how they implemented this Camera Suite nonsense really annoys me. There is no sensible way to quickly go to an external view for a basic look about yourself, instead you have to set up a load of bindings and switch to ext camera then free camera then which camera then zoom or blurr or focus or ship control ---- ARGH!

All they had to do was let us keep the old "debug camera" as the external camera, where you could pan around and move the viewpoint - then if you wanted to be the next Lars von Trier you go into the camera suite. Really stupid to have to go into the advanced suite just to move the viewpoint.

So @OP, I feel your pain.

I was wondering about this as I have not set up any external camera views as of yet.

Was hoping it might be like a couple of my combat flight sims, a command to go to external camera and then pan the view with a hat switch.
Sounds like it is more complex than this.

That is what it used to be before they crushed us with the Spielberg-level controls of the Camera Suite. :)

Persevere - once you get it set up right it works really well. Personally I use an Xbox controller for camera controls, joystick was less intuitive.

But I agree that if we could add to the presets it would be a joy - I often want and above & behind view on the SRV for scouting the Guardian sites, and having to set it each time is a pain.

thats why i use a seperat gamecontroller for camera only

Hmm I have my wireless X-Box controller that came with the Rift, suppose I could set that up although fumbling with it whilst in VR might be taxing.

OK..Knowing another Commander feels the same way about the camera suite complexity eases my pain [yesnod]

Since they changed the controls, I've never used the camera. It's too complicated. the old method was OK for me, but I don't understand why they didn't just add a camera switch, where it switched your ship controls to the camera so you could fly the camera around as if you were in your ship observing another one. No need for any new bindings and no need to learn anything new.

Here is the Voice Attack macro I use to turn the camera into a drone. You still have to set the bindings.

Press Left Ctrl+Left Alt+Space keys and hold for 0.2 seconds and release
Pause 0.2 seconds
Pause 0.2 seconds
Press F2 key and hold for 0.2 seconds and release
Pause 0.2 seconds
Pause 0.2 seconds
Press F4 key and hold for 0.02 seconds and release
Press NumPad 9 key and hold for 0.15 seconds and release
Press NumPad 4 key and hold for 0.35 seconds and release
Press NumPad 8 key and hold for 2 seconds and release

In my AspX it gets the camera running raises it up and aligns it directly behind my ship.

Here they are for the SRV..

Press NumPad 4 key and hold for 0.05 seconds and release
Press NumPad 8 key and hold for 2 seconds and release
Press NumPad Add key and hold for 0.05 seconds and release

I can completely control the camera by voice.

YMMV
Enjoy

I love the camera suite, but yes it does have quite a few features you have to wrap your head around.

I use a little macro to hit the 4 keystrokes it takes to pop into the camera and put it in free mode behind my ship.

I could also just hit the 4 keystrokes by memory (like I do when requesting Docking permission :) ), but I'm lazy.

I have the bindings set up so that once I'm in the camera, I can fly it just like my ship.

It's really a lot of fun to use.

I can also fly my ship while watching it through the camera, and have the camera follow it (or not). It's great.

Something to be noted here. As best I can tell, the outside camera starts out in different places for every ship and also the SRV so one single macro will not place it directly behind the ship. You have to tweek it to get it in the right place.
