Modes What is Sandro playing at?

Suggest that PP will be Open Only...and within the same thread say...'it's just talk'? I'm holding off response to the main thread because I have issues with a few other suggestions...but:

"In addition, this is far from a done deal, and we're acutely aware of the importance of such a change, which is why we want to get feedback from the user base before committing to anything."

Why must some people immediately cry conspiracy when Sandro proposes a change that they don't like?

I am not saying conspiracy...but to put out a controversial statement of Open only...for any part of regular gameplay...and then immediately placate by saying...'or not'...means they have started a fire that will ultimately destroy the PVP crowd if they back out on the Open only suggestion. I will not want to see the forums on that day.

That's a bit hyperbolic, methinks. Nothing is going to destroy the PvP community short of axing PvP itself from the game.

We aren't above a healthy eyeroll whenever Frontier flirts with the idea of implementing a really good idea and then passes on going through with it, however.

Hoping you're right...but, the game offers very little for PVP as it is, a lot of PVP folks are looking at the end of the year for an exit if the status quo does not change. Making this type of statement and then NOT doing it..will definitely cost them customers, sooner.

Probably true, but if these excellent ideas fail to be implemented yet again, then the utopian dream of structured (ie fair minded non-ganky) PVP may die with it. The only current option for this are tournaments and duels, which tbh feels a bit too forced, unnatural, and nihilistic (in the sense that it is devoid of any contextual meaning or goal-oriented results) to be any kind of fun. The current PVP feels soul sucking and chaotic. It really needs structure and to be supported by PP factions a bit more. For instance if players die while pledged and engaged in PP conflict, they should really have a serious discount on the rebuy.

Honestly, implementing a PvE-only open would send the most damning message to the PvP community of all. Thankfully there hasn't been a peep from FDev about that in any meaningful sense.

I expect he's trying to right a perceived wrong with the initial implementation of PowerPlay - and to offer specific content that can only be affected in Open (which seems to be a common requirement when considering what constitutes "meaningful" PvP).

On the other hand, he's opened Pandora's Box wide - and therefore all things (apart from Open only BGS - he's said no to that) may reasonably be requested.

In terms of a quid pro quo for the potential removal of PowerPlay from Solo and Private Groups - maybe it's time to revisit the previously requested PvE mode equivalent of Open.

The basics are, or will be, in place, i.e. a mode check to see how the game should react dependent on which mode the player has selected; weapons that do no damage depending on what is hit and add to that removal of ramming damage and a mode check on the use of an interdictor on another CMDR (it would always fail) and the broad basis of a new Open-PvE mode would be in place.

Seems to me after all the blinkered PVE is the future posts, we have suffered for the last few years.

FDEV finally realise that it doesn't bring content or breath life into the game.

The PVE Thargoid snoarfest is proof of that.

Players make content in a sandbox, FDEV are now looking at giving us the water to hold that together.

How are you going to feel about the game if/when they do not implement Open only for PP now?

Well, I couldn't play it any less than I already do.

It's more likely it won't happen, because of you and your fellow anti-change friends.
Who will spam everything they can, shout as loud as you can, as often as you can find a way. PVP is the Devil and Open is a horror show.

Why wait until year 5 to introduce this? Cynically, I would suggest that the population of the game has reached a particular threshold..and they are going to add anything they can to try to build up the numbers again.

I'm a person that realizes 'slippery slope' is a logical fallacy. They will control the game to do what they want...Open only for PP will be about all the PVP folks will ever get. Until the devs change their minds. I don't see how this would be enough of a change to make the PVP people happy, with all the other shortcomings the game has in this matter.

If they are thinking a quid pro quo, then the idea of public groups and an in depth flag system for all groups needs to be something that is brought back out from under the short couch leg...which would lead to a compromise on Open PVE modes.

If you haven't noticed, I am not spamming or shouting. I have some misgivings about the idea that this is a good move...because I do not see how it will work to the real benefit of the PVP players...but that's their problem. I think that removing gameplay from this game is the worst possible way to go...and that the PVP in Open will not benefit from this change. I am also not an anti-change person...but whatever you think of me is your opinion.

Why wait? Maybe it took this long to decide that the active PowerPlay population was low enough that relatively few players would be disadvantaged by a lock to Open - who knows....

A comprehensive flags system for managing the in-game rules of Private Groups might be just the job - as there would seem to be some players who have great difficulty remembering which game mode they are in and what Private Group rules they have agreed to on joining.

I'm not really bothered by it personally I haven't really participated in power play at all. I do wonder however what sort of concessions they are willing to make for PVE players in return, considering open mode is PVP by default.
