September 20th - Elite Birthday

Everybody ready for the 30th (!) anniversary of the original Elite!? The original game was released on september 20th 1984 according to the wiki.

I would love it if FD has something special for us in mind for that day (special skin for everyone who is a current backer of the game?, special assignment/ scenario? ). What would you love to see?

My proposial is that everyone who can afford it will fly a Cobra that day :cool:. Maybe meet somewhere?

I will be on holiday pretty soon, but hope to see lots of cool ideas in this thread when I return.

I think its safe to assume that Frontier will mark the occasion somehow.;)

anyone reckon there is a chance of a gamma release on that day?

It would be beautifully fitting if ED was launched on the 30th anniversary of Elite.

I would guess at this stage of development there can be no hard dates. Certainly gamma seems out of reach till at least a month after.

Some sort of in-game event or something would be awesome though. Test out some Thargoid attack abilities...? ;)

I can see a cromulent reason to having the gamma released on the anniversary date. If gamma has all the gameplay features of a RC, with the only condition being incrementally patches/updates for fine-tuning the game, then it's more likely to be released on the anniversary, assuming ofc the full game is still on target for release sometime for last quarter of this year.

I wouldn't be surprised if Gamma were to hit on or around this date. :)

Maybe for fun, on that day, all ships will be drawn in Wireframe ?
At the end of the day we will all be very appreciative of the level of graphics we have now, 30 years later. ;)

i remember that interview when DB said (or was forced to say :) ) this would be a nice release date
release seems out of reach and gamma very unlikely, but one can hope..
