Do Solo/ Co-op Players have a Future in Elite?

As per the thread title really...
Current Developer Statements IE They'd like to see More Players in open and therefore less players in solo/co-op really calls into question the future of Gameplay for that (substantial) part of the Elite Community...

After all its hard to see it sustaining itself if the developers are actively engaging in a campaign to drive them out of the game...

Currently they appear to be using Carrot and Stick to drive players away from what they consider "Lesser" Modes...

The carrot of recently developed content either mainly or exclusively for Multiplayer use...CQC, Wing Missions, Multi-crew etc etc
The carrot of future content/development being aimed at and for the exclusively multiplayer player base...Fleet Carriers, Squadrons etc
The stick of removing currently existing gameplay from players in Solo and co-op modes

We've seen a complete break from the historic "all modes are equal" philosophy...presumably more relevant when the need to drive Kickstarter pledges and new game sales was high...to the current "open is our preferred mode" position...
We've seen nothing from Frontier, to ally the fears of solo/co-op players, to make them feel a necessary and desired part of the elite community, no equivalent content that is EXCLUSIVELY for the solo/co-op player

So where next on this road map toward Open only?

I think you're reading too much into it. "We'd like to see more players in open.." doesn't necessarily mean " We want less people in solo or Private groups..."

They've seemed determined to force the adversarial multiplayer content since Horizons though as we all know, so I'm sure they'd love to entice a few solo or PG players in to test the waters of open play to validate their design choices... come Q4 and the alleged mining and exploration rework... with which I can't see any possible reason to make adversarial or multiplayer focussed, but you never know with FDev...we'll see how that goes first. :)

Co op has almost nothing to do with the solo / Pg / open debate.

I only play coop and almost only play open.

But the fact that after so many years this small change to a single niche feature which has consistently been described as explicitly PvP focused is the only difference between the modes should tell you all you need to know.

The proposal seems to only affect powerplay to make it more interesting. And Sandro had said the bgs mechanics won't be tampered with or affected. imo, I'd doubt there is a slippery slope to further divide solo vs. open. It's just the hype and alarm that's going on.

Yer overthinking this...massively so and it comes across in the tone of yer op. Nobody is driving anyone away from the game...yer doing that to yerself and then blaming frontier and the players fer something yer doing to yerself.

Go fer a walk, get some air and vitamin D about ye before shotgunning salt all over the forums. Theres been nothing more than a suggestion and all of a sudden the sky is falling about gameplay aspects that nobody so much as mentioned...seriously m8 catch a grip o yerself and try actually thinking about what was proposed, not what ye like to think ye heard. There is no conspiracy but that which ye have created in yer head...nothing more than the invention of a salty and bitter intellect ^

It is ridiculous... FDev thinking about putting one and only one feature into open only, a feature that mostly makes sense if it would be open only, which was intended that way it would mostly make sense in open, and suddenly the world ends. Solo mode is gonna vanish, everybody will die, in so many threads..

Guys, the world is not only black&white, there can be shades in-between.. did anyone took into consideration that FDev makes PP open only, and nothing else? No, impossible, right? Soon everything will be open only, we are already on the road towards it. IT IS A PRECEDENT!!111

Excuse my sarcasm, but I cannot believe the outcry over this, and I somehow believe 95% of the salty people in the Forum did not even consider doing PP at all ever ..

And just to add: I'm mostly playing Solo and only 20-40% in open for the occasional thrill at CGs ;)

FD's approach to the way open players cheat PP by removing content from solo players is half-baked. FD has to make PP work for both solo and open and there must be a better way to do this rather than make solo players feel more left out than they already do. :)

Holy youre being serious. Fdev propose making the pvp feature open only for ya know... Pvp. Now all of a sudden yall think the world is against you, fdev is going to come smack your mothers, they are gonna steal your identities and open cards in your name, and remove solo and pg from the game.

Spare me your alarmist nonsense.

Fixed that for you.

Cheers Einstein. I forgot that solo players often jump into open to circumvent PvP interactions when handing in PP vouchers. </sarcasm>

I'm sure it will have crossed FD's mind at some point. They're capable of anything ya know! :D

Let's hope they never ask for feedback again.

ROFL, one can hope. Especially if FD keep spouting rubbish like that. :D

It's a shame really. FD had a lot of credibility at Kickstarter. Then they dropped offline, then they spent months developing PP rather than look at the core game, then introduced wings, SLF, multicrew and engineers to encourage social interaction, then dropped Mac support. Now they're desperately trying to cling to what little credibility they have left by alienating solo players further.

It's taken four years for what was a promising game to become a hell of a shambles. :)

... Where's that "We're all dooooooomed!" meme gone ... :D
