Powerplay should not be made Open-only. Here's why... [EDITED]

a vast majority seems to want it.

Still waiting for a reason to care about their wants. Come back when you have a reason why I should care and I'll support the change. Until then, I don't support the change.

And stop wasting my time with things that are just "We'll beat you up because there's more of us!". A vast majority of those who want it want it. But a vast majority don't want it. Out of 400,000 players or near 2 milion commanders sold, we have, what a couple score of people for it? A vast majority don't want it.

I don't think Frontier can. They had a choice. Now it's either try, and work solutions in and accept they won't always work and that may well include the currently suggested ones, or they can accept they've lost the drivers seat.

The most important decisions are never easy. I hope Sandy can figure this one out.

All of that.

I hope he gets, the help he needs.

Well, yeah. When I take your car, it's bad BECAUSE I TOOK IT. Doesn't matter if you weren't using it. When I take your wallet, that's bad BECAUSE I TOOK IT. Doesn't matter if I can because I have the power.

Do you know what laws are? Do you connect from Somalia?
What a wonderfully awful analogy.

Do you know what games are? Have you played actively developed games before?

I posted this as a response to Sandro's thread, but it needs discussion here where normal replies can be made without incurring the wrath of breaking that Feedback section's rules..

Hi Sandro. I did some research.

Waaaaay back in Newsletter #72, Powerplay information was released on the 23rd April 2015.

https://us2.campaign-archive.com/?u=dcbf6b86b4b0c7d1c21b73b1e&id=b0a8ebba0b

In that newsletter, there is a quote from you...

So yes, when Powerplay was designed, sure, part of the reasoning behind it was to give players a reason to engage in PvP. That's obvious.

But you also took players who don't play in Open into account - right from the birth of Powerplay - and that is the product a lot of your customers bought into.

To remove that content from users of the "Solo" and "Private Group" game client connectivity mode/filter after 3 years is, frankly, just not cricket, old chap.

Also this dispels this recent disinformation I've been reading from a number of posters that Powerplay was introduced solely for direct PvP players only. I don't know why that lie has been propagated - it's simply not true; the statement "giving players a reason to engage in PvP" did not mean "Powerplay is PvP-only content" back then. It meant only that it gave players a reason or purpose for PvP.

I agree.
I have put many hours into Powerplay in the past and I never did it for the territory of my Power.
For me it was just another way to play the game with a bit of added motivation and fluff with the help of these powers.
I loved that, although I hated the demotivating, soul eating merit decay system.

So if FDev would add a new similar gameplay mechanic for solo then I would not mind if the PP territorial gameplay got removed.
If we do not get anything to replace the PP mechanic then Solo would definitely become a poorer experience.

Including terrible game development.

Aye, absolutely. Allowing solo mode to effect the multi player game in any way was a terrible idea. In my opinion, of course.
That's the good thing about making mistakes - one can learn from them.

Yeah, also quoting as saying that PP in solo is countered by other PPing in solo. So, your point is you'll accept his word when it means those not in open get mugged, but not when it means they don't get mugged...

Got it.

Not sure what you mean.

We all play PP in all modes up to this day. Turns out, the benefit, having a single shared galaxy, call it "modular", is - it appears, not anymore outweighing its drawbacks. Solos loose eventually PP, if they remain in single player mode.

Frontier considers to abdomen, their single shared galaxy in this particular case, for the benefit of premium PvP in Open. We are moving on? Does this game need some development, does it?

Glad you liked it. It's entirely appropriate. Just because YOU see the game of ED as PvP pewpew doesn't mean it is. You DO know what games are, don't you? I've been playing them since before you were born, including Elite.

So you agree that PP was not PvP. Well done.

No I agreed that AI are in open because of course they are because they are in all modes.

That has nothing to do with PVP, as AI are not players. AI interdiction is a random event.

I'm pleased to see the debate has become so very constructive. Good luck Sandy. I'm pretty sure you'll need it.

I'd tell you to get a dictionary Or google "define equal".

I'll take that as either:
a) You understand my point and implication thereof.
b) You can't.

edit - what happened to the rest of my quote? Did you put it into 'solo' mode?

Not sure what you don't get.

We all play PP. But this change means we can't all play PP. Simple as that.

Turns out the benefit isnt for me. So why should I support it? It's not like it's neutral to me. Give me a reason to give up part of the game for YOUR benefit, not mine.

Oh, and for the XBoners et al, since the 50 quid is nothing, offer to pay it for those so they can continue to play PP, m'kay? It's nothing compared to the price of the HOTAS you got, amirite?

I'll take that as either:
a) You understand my point and implication thereof.

Nobody can understand a point that was never made. Words are meant to communicate. If you fail to communicate, either you used the wrong words and need to change them to pass on information or you cannot find the right words to do so.

OK, so you disagred with your post I quoted. Got it.

Interesting how you can be so full of assumptions to try and support your point.
Never said I view the game of ED as PvP pewpew.
You also have no clue what my age is.
Seems like you just want to argue for the sake of arguing.
