Community Event / Creation Elite Dangerous: Voice Attack commands, Alpha 4.3 (Cobra MkIII)

...

As I say, VoiceAttack also doesn't hear me, but it does pick up words said on the computer (eg YouTube videos). I turned my speakers' physical volume down to zero, and VoiceAttack still registers the YouTube words as it they are loud and clear, which I believe means it is picking up "Stereo Mix". :S

This sounds like you've got your stereo mix as a 'recording device' but head over to the official VoiceAttack support forums and you'll probably get a lot more help with VA specific stuff.

Any reason why the keybindings aren't set ingame? Do I seriously have to go through all the vap commands and set them to manually ingame?

What keybindings? Aren't your game controls set in the game?

Or are you talking about VA? It is a 3rd party software, not a integrated program.

Sorry, if I misunderstood your question.

Well I'm currently using the "key & mouse" keybindings in Elite and about half of the custom keybindings set in voiceattack aren't set to the correct key or any key set ingame.

Hello There.

If you are using the VA profile I posted in the OP then this was;
  1. For a Cobra MkIII which has slightly different systems config to a Sidewinder.
  2. Set-up for use in Premium Beta where some of the key bindings have changed since the release of full Beta.

TBH I only linked the profile because so many people asked for it, but I did make clear that it was meant as a guide to help people create their own VA profile.

However, I am working on a new Video for Full Beta and some profiles that can be used for different ships in the game. Although a few of my key bindings are not standard, so if something doesn't work, check that first. I hope to have something out fairly soon.

Happy Hunting Commander :)

I'm going to ask a very noob-ish question:

If you are using voice attack, and you are also on voice comms (in-game, team speak, whatever). Is there a way to switch your mic from 'broadcasting' to voice attack, and broadcasting to your communication software?

So voice attack doesn't try to interpret your chatter, and your team mates don't have to listen to you yelling things at your computer?

Just thinking about getting my communications setup and possibly using voice attack.

You can assign a key press with VA when you only want it to 'hear' your spoken commands. I use my mouse buttons 4 and 5, one for team chat, the other for the VA commands, but I also use two V.A. commands to tell it to "sleep" (stop listening), and to "wake up" (start listening) which is also useful, that is if you don't want to use a key press for voice activation, or for VA to inadvertently issue a wrong command if you should be team talking.

Indeed it does and I checked this specifically. But no, I have my headphones set up as the recording device in Windows. And the indicators light up when I speak, acknowledging that my headset mic is worked fine.

I posted on the VA forum as well, and they asked if I'd installed anything else the day it stopped working.

Very frustrating.

Solved it!

So anyone having the issue I've been having could try :-
1) Navigating to ...
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Speech Recognition

2) On that dialog box click the link to "Advanced speech options"

3) In the "Microphone" section at the bottom, click "Advanced"

For me, "Use this audio input device" was set to an incorrect device.

4) Either click "Use preferred audio input device" or select the device you want to use from the drop down list. I did the former.

5) Click "OK", "OK" & "OK" to confirm selections.

6) Close VoiceAttack and reopen it and this may solve the problem for you.

This has solved the problem for me.

Please pass this on as something to try if others are experiencing the same problem as me. :)

Voice Attack is a great tool

I've set up a comprehensive VA profile for normal activities like trading etc which i'm very happy with. Voice Attack really is a great tool.

I want to set up a combat profile and I was hoping to record key presses into VA whilst playing the game. So that, for instance I could use the keyboard to fly a full stop and about turn or fly a loop etc. I would give each combat move a name, then when I say the name of the manoeuvre its performed.

But when I click record macro in VA it records the key presses as it should but ED doesn't respond so I cant tell if I've performed the manoeuvre correctly.

I've used macro recorders that work ok but I don't see a way to import the macro in to VA.

I've read on this forum that other players are using macros to fly manoeuvres and wondered how they do it.

I know that VA can run an exe from a command and I think that may point to an answer.

Anyone got any light to shed it?

I've set-up a profile this morning but can't seem to get request docking to work, I've put the following key presses in:

1 to access the targets view
E twice to move to contacts
Space to select top contact
S to move to docking request
Space again to send request

Has anyone else managed to get this to work?

Hello
Here is my VA macro, seems to work ok. I use the head tracker so if you don't use one delete the F9 press at each end of the macro. Change the 'play sound' for the 'say' command in the 'other' menu in VA. The first one will switch the docking computer on or off. The 4 second pause is to allow you to check that the first tab is selected (you may want to lower this if you have quicker reactions than me) at the end of the macro it returns to the first tab again before going back to the forward view. I got VA to equalise all the key presses in the recorded wmacro to 0.10 second and that seems to work well every time the macro runs.

The second macro will select the docking request. Same thing goes for the F9 key etc.

Press F9 key and hold for 0.5 seconds and release, Press 3 key and hold for 0.16 seconds and release, Play sound, 'C:\Users\Peter\Documents\ED voices full batch\Waiting.mp3', Pause 4 seconds, Press E key and hold for 0.1 seconds and release, Pause 0.1 seconds, Press S key and hold for 0.1 seconds and release, Pause 0.1 seconds, Press S key and hold for 0.1 seconds and release, Pause 0.1 seconds, Press S key and hold for 0.1 seconds and release, Pause 0.1 seconds, Press S key and hold for 0.1 seconds and release, Pause 0.1 seconds, Press S key and hold for 0.1 seconds and release, Pause 0.1 seconds, Press S key and hold for 0.1 seconds and release, Pause 0.1 seconds, Press S key and hold for 0.1 seconds and release, Pause 0.1 seconds, Press Space key and hold for 0.1 seconds and release, Pause 0.1 seconds, Play sound, 'C:\Users\Peter\Documents\ED voices full batch\Docking computer online.mp3', Press Q key and hold for 0.1 seconds and release, Pause 0.1 seconds, Press 3 key and hold for 0.1 seconds and release, Press F9 key and hold for 0.5 seconds and release

Press F9 key and hold for 0.136 seconds and release, Press 1 key and hold for 0.137 seconds and release, Play sound, 'C:\Users\Peter\Documents\ED voices full batch\Waiting.mp3', Pause 3 seconds, Press E key and hold for 0.118 seconds and release, Pause 0.142 seconds, Press E key and hold for 0.136 seconds and release, Pause 0.258 seconds, Press Space key and hold for 0.159 seconds and release, Pause 0.335 seconds, Press S key and hold for 0.139 seconds and release, Pause 0.157 seconds, Press Space key and hold for 0.117 seconds and release, Pause 0.357 seconds, Press 1 key and hold for 0.137 seconds and release, Press F9 key and hold for 0.136 seconds and release

Let me know if you make it work :)

Hello

It does!
I was looking for this for a few days now, this is so great, thanks for sharing!

The possibilities with VA are awesome. Guess I'm gonna teach my ship computer to play some Frank Sinatra on demand! :D

Following that in my head (I'm at work at the moment), won't that only work if the last sub-panel you were in on the left panel was the left most sub-panel? I realise that may have only made sense to myself. :S

Basically, if you perform that macro and the station says "Permission Denied", running it again will not work. This is because when it reopens the left panel, the third "Contacts" sub-panel will already be selected, so tabbing to the right twice will put you on the wrong sub-panel and I can only guess what that will have the macro select and activate.

To make this macro fool-proof we need some way to be sure we are selecting the "Contacts" sub-panel. This would be possible if we could select for all sub-panels to default to the left most one, or (and I prefer this) for there to be an option to stop infinite scrolling. That way, you could do a "Q", "Q", "Q", "Q" (however many sub-panels/tabs there are) to force it back to the left before commencing with the macro.

I'm pretty sure, you can't select either of these things in the settings. :(

I have it randomly choose from two sayings when I say goodnight to it. One is for it to reply "Goodnight Commander. Sleep Well." and the other is to reply "Oh, I think you have time for one more Commander." Little things ... :D

While trying to fix my VA microphone problem, I saw the developer state that there was an undocumented random response feature. Just place a ";" between the macro options, like you do to separate different voice commands that you want to run the same macro. Once you finish editing the macro, it'll replace your ";" with and " or ". :) I'm guessing he just hasn't got around to updating the manual.

Looking at the docking macro I can see I have left off the q presses at the end to return to the first tab (fixed that now). The pause at the 'waiting' sound gives you time to return the panel to the first tab if needed. As long as it starts on the first tab every time it should work and as long as the contacts tab is always in the same place (third from left I think).
What we really need is for ED to have more function specific controls like request docking or turn off shields.

I'm intrigued. How do you know how many "Q"s to perform? Won't it be different depending on which tab you were last on? Or have you found a setting that prevents the UI from wrapping round? Unless I'm mistaken, if you are on the first tab, hitting "Q" will send you to the last tab.

I was thinking I'd have to do it manually the first time and then have a VA macro for repeat asking, since doing it once is not the end of the world, but having to repeat ask 8 times until the station finally grants you permission is a bit tedious.

The only way around that I could think of was to put the pause for 3 or 4 seconds before the main part of the macro starts.
Step 1 - open panel
Step 2 - say waiting and pause for 3 or 4 seconds (this pause gives you time to manually move to the first tab if needed)
Step 3 - the macro presses E for x amount of times to get to what ever tab you need
Step 4 - run the main part of the macro
Step 5 - macro presses Q for same amount of times as in step 3 to return to first tab
Step 6 - return to forward view

If you open the panel manually just remember to return to the first tab. Step 4 would be problem if the item in the list that you are changing moves up or down after adding something to the list like a docking computer.
