Cmdr Pingmonster's Interstellar Travelogue

Keep up those engineering debriefs Cmdr. Interesting to see when modules begin to malfunction and require attention. I will embark on my own little exploring trip back though this thread. :)
A quick question though Manticore, on your epic excursions do you manage to use only one SRV ? I’m always keeping two on board and wondering if one will suffice these days.

Flimley.

Thanks for those words Cmdr......

......... as for the SRV; sometimes I carry two but on this trip I decided to use the Asp Explorer (for comfort and the views from the bridge) and I decided on taking a second AFMU as I always intended to use a lot of neutron star boosts.

For that reason the SRV has been stowed until reaching Beagle, and now I really need it on the ground as I'm finding my carbon stocks are low and I want to get more cadmium on board as well.

I'm planning on having, at least, fifty 25% boosts and thirty 50% boosts for heading further out. As for the 100% boosts polonium is very hard to find more of but I would like to have ten.

Destination: Beagle Point and Beyond Expedition Mission Log #8
Ship: Asp Explorer PIN-12 Kinnara

The Solitude Void-Out here, past Beagle Point, there are no stars just the deep black of intergalactic space. The thin atmosphere of this planetoid is tinted by the reflected starlight of the nearby moon.

Maximum Achievable Distance from Sol-65,605 LY's

40834019935_5ee8f7c2cc_b.jpg

Kinnara is a good ship and I'm still glad I came out here in the Asp Explorer which, in my opinion, is a more comfortable ride than the Anaconda. The maximum boosted jump range is 83 LY's and we just ran out of reachable stars.....

26864872047_91894deb07_b.jpg

Surface Tension-In the two weeks since reaching Beagle Point ways to the furthest reachable stars were explored. A lot of time was spent surveying systems and prospecting more jumponium materials.

26864873027_db88a41c24_b.jpg

26864879387_af3c09dd86_b.jpg

Navigation Debrief:

I spent a year planning this expedition. Most of that was about collecting jumponium and with the changes to the materials inventory I had lots of storage to increase those stocks.

FSD Boost Injections Available

100% (83.9 LY's)=69
50% (63.0 LY's)=197
25% (52.5 LY's)=267

I have been working my way out past Beagle Point and then back but staying well outside the edge of the Outer Arm and jumping maximum distances so the extra 100% boosts are necessary. Increasing the stocks allows for a decent safety margin so I don't get stranded out here as I make my way along the edge of the Outer Arm and back into the galaxy.

Fuel Stars

Out here where the star density is super-low every star is a fuel star and I didn't encounter one star outside of the Main Sequence.

Route Maps Stage 5
-5a is the journey out beyond Beagle Point leaving trails to find my way back, 5b is the start of the journey back into the galaxy keeping well to the outside of the Outer Arm and 5C is one spur found in the Solitude Void; a final attempt to put distance between me and Sol. The best I could do on that spur was 65,520 LY's plus change.

The Mysterious Radio Source at 65,000 LY's from Sol

41015546594_6ec3ba5b27_b.jpg

By sheer chance I was dropping down from orbit to prospect in a large impact crater (Lat: 1.3 Lon: 105.2) and encountered this radio source. I spent two of the planet's day cycles running search patterns in the ship and on the ground in the SRV trying to find the source, without success. I traversed the plateau inside the crater, dropped the ship down on the source multiple times but couldn't pick it up on the surface.

If anyone is out this way and wants to investigate this mystery here is the map data:

40834011115_cc516fc3ae_b.jpg

Time to head back- As stated I'm making my way back into the galaxy follwing a little explored route where stars are still waiting to be tagged.

Engineering Debrief: Kinnara is traveling well. Now that we are heading back into the galaxy proper there are more neutron and white dwarf stars to boost from so AFMU repairs on the FSD have become necessary again. I have also noticed that the fuel scoop has suffered some degradation; so that ha been repaired as well. We took some heat damage at a white dwarf so hull integrity is down to 95%.

Heading back to The Bubble-But on the way I'll be visiting some nebula that are on our general navigation track.

Navigation Debrief: I've dived into the galaxy to travel through some nebulae that are on the general navigation track to home. I'll be trying to focus on sectors as much above the plane of the galactic as possible.

"It's full of stars!"-After six weeks out beyond Beagle Point and at the edge of the galaxy it's a bit shocking, and somehow comforting, to see so many stars again after so much seemingly empty intergalactic void.

42249184192_1c3936510b_b.jpg

Engineering Debrief-Kinnara is still traveling very well although, after 150k LY's and then some, her paintwork is starting to look decidedly second hand. More neutron star boosts mean more stops to repair the FSD. I have also repaired sensors and scanners as well as thrusters which had also degraded over the course of this expedition. We took a hit of heat and damage at a black hole but hull integrity remains at 94% for the moment.

Pingmonster's Report From The Bridge:

Destination: Beagle Point and Beyond Expedition Mission Log #12

Rush hour on the highway-Neutron star jet-cone boosting has made the trip near the galactic core a lot faster than I expected

28500976428_3d7885870f_b.jpg

Navigation debrief: I suppose, given the laws of probability and the number of stars at the core of the galaxy, there were going to be a lot of neutron stars but the n-star superhighway has been more extensive than I could imagine and I am literally speeding back to The Bubble.

Pingmonster's Report From The Bridge:

Destination: Beagle Point and Beyond Expedition Mission Log #13
Ship: Asp Explorer PIN-12 Kinnara

Systems Discovered: 1290 (approx.)
Credits Earned: 347 million (approx.)

Back in The Bubble-Almost three months to the day after leaving Colonia for Regale Point we arrived back in human space.

41749890454_eb0650c12b_b.jpg

Systems Offline-Kinnara at Davies High powered down for the first time in three months. 150k LY's plus have left the paint a little second-hand.

28599970148_6925dc201c_b.jpg

At 4k LY's from Sol the first sign of "civilisation"-When encountering this USS I immediately re-activated Kinnara's countermeasures that had been powered down for the whole trip. You can't be too careful in human space!

Route Map Stage 10

27601776937_db0c7f2903_b.jpg

Across the top-Doing the whole trip as much above the galactic plane as possible was certainly a navigation challenge. Even this close to Sol the navigation computer kept dropping route plots because of the low stellar density.

42421794442_d981dc1c4a_b.jpg

Engineering Debrief: We arrived back with Kinnara's hull at 94%. A totally acceptable result after 150k LY's and some tangle with a neutron star, black hole or two that lost us that 6%. Both AFMU's were used and ran down to almost empty but that's what materials prospecting is for when you're out in the deep black.

Dropping down-Diving through the galactic dust clouds towards the Orion Arm/Perseus Spur and The Bubble

Selling to Universal Cartographics-Off-loading three months of exploration data was a matter of "spreading the love" around between the three superpowers to advance my reputation with all three to Allied.

Back in the world of adventure-That string of pearls stellar formation is in the fourth quadrant and is a region I intend to explore in the future.

The Beagle Point and Beyond Expedition is complete-But there will be one more travelogue entry on it after this one to supplement the expedition data.

41749892904_6ab49b96d7_b.jpg

It was an expedition for the sake of exploring. I was already Explorer Elite and it's not like I needed the credits. An expedition I've always wanted to do (and complete) and the experience of being out beyond Beagle Point in the Solitude Void for two weeks exploring out there was unique due to the loneliness of the place and the vast nothing of the intergalactic void.

Pingmonster's Report From The Bridge:

The Hawking's Kingdom Expedition

28423035308_6bfd211a38_b.jpg

While journeying back from Beagle Point it was always my intention to explore nebulae along the way. I noticed that the Scheau Blao nebula had a black hole nearby when I was doing a quick look at the sector in the galaxy map. After surveying the nebula I had identified and mapped over sixty black holes. I also identified another cluster of black holes further on at about 1k LY's distance. There were so many black holes that I decided to report this expedition as complete side mission after returning to The Bubble at the end of the Beagle Point and Beyond Expedoition.

For my own ends and, in memory of the great man (may he RIP), I call this area of space near and above the galactic core Hawking's Kingdom.

A field of stellar destruction and Hawking Radiation-Surveying this nebula was like uncovering a buried treasure of black holes and attendant neutron stars

I spent two days surveying this region of space and still didn't cover every black hole. The more I looked at the galactic map the more black holes seemed to appear. There are plenty more black holes to explore out in this region and I might head back out there myself sometime..........

Are you scanning every planets in each system you're visiting or mainly EWL, WW, HM & Ammonia ?

Thanks for those kind words Cmdr.

Check my post against your comment in the other thread. I just go for the good stuff.... the galaxy is too big and life's too short!

What is below was posted in another thread some many moons ago but I have been meaning to put it into this thread to complete Cmdr Pingmonster's story. So going self-referential in three, two, one, engage:

As Commander Pingmonster I have over 6000 hours in Elite Dangerous on the PC. (Check my sig below! It’s all in there!)

However with the need to rebuild Windows 7 (a number of times) and the pending need to update to Windows 10 early in 2020 I actually stopped playing the game after the last Windows 7 repairs (requiring the downloading and installation of ED:H again as well as Visual Basic to run it etc.).

This time last year I got given a PS4 Pro and with these December sales in the PS Store I picked up Elite Dangerous: Deluxe Edition and, despite wondering if I did want to start from scratch all over again, I did start playing. And I’m enjoying it as much again the second time as the first.

Commander Pingmonster basically made credits in game to buy better ships and outfitting so he could explore. Pingmonster did all the Elite signature explorations (Hutton Orbital, Sagittarius A*, Beagle Point etc.), chased Thargoids, did Guardians archeological investigations and put his name to quite a few star systems.

Pingmonster was a credits billionaire a couple of times over. He had a fleet of a dozen or so ships parked in Cubeo and at the Colonia settlements.

The last time I saw Commander Pingmonster he was stuck in the SRV on a dusty moon half way to a quasar in the south-east quadrant of the galaxy trying to fix the lost key bindings (yet again) for the controller.

So Commander Pingmonster is lost; at least for the time being.

Farewell Papa-India-November......

..... and introducing Romeo-Echo-Alpha:

Commander Real_Manticore (I’m so very sorry but it is a Sony Network username from some time back).

This time there will be no logs, no major explorations and, probably, no photography.

This time I’m just doing it for the fun of flying.

I’ve just done the Year's End Festivities CG in the Reorte System. Making credits seems easy this time around (probably because I know the game backwards) and I managed to put a Type 6 together for the CG and ended up in the 50% bracket.

It’s good to be back....
