For those of you who were too young or just missed out on the legend that is Babylon 5, the entire series is coming to Amazon prime this summer

Great twitter conversation about all things b5 with the great maker himself

This show while lauded in the UK was i understand pretty fringe stuff back in the USA compared to the far inferior Star Trek.
However its long term story arc changed the way american channels saw television. it doubtful if BSG, The expanse, Game of Thrones etc would have ever been given the go ahead if it wasnt for B5.

Babylon 5 was pretty awesome. Hopefully Amazon's audio encoding is at least on par with my decade old internet bootlegs...probably not though.

Once you can get past the rather weak first season, Babylon 5 is still the Greatest Space Opera of all time.

I preferred Michael O'Hare to Bruce Boxcutterleitner but like many I suppose Claudia Christian was a "thing" (being polite).

:)

(P.S. One of the most irritating things I find about TBBT is their repeated trashing of Babylon5. :( )

OHH!! I thought when I saw this thread that they were going to do a new series like Netflix did recently with Lost in Space, slightly disappointed :(

Still by far one of the best things to leave the 90's IMO

I have a disk full of the 3D renders from the show somewhere that I used on my Amiga back in the day.

I watched the whole thing (including the feature length films) on the Pick TV channel, it just finished a few weeks ago. I could pick holes in some of the science but overall it was brilliant.

Cheers,
Mark

I know a lot of people liked it, but I just didn't like it. I couldn't stand the script writing and some of the acting. I really tried though and kept with it for a long time.

He would have helmed the entire show but he was suffering severe paranoia at the time and was accusing the cast of all sorts. If you look at O'Hare's eyes, in many episode, there is a startled look to them, as if he is evaluating and misreading people's body language. Bruce was a great addition to the cast, although that all American attitude possible didn't wash well. Great show. Let's hope that if the great maker decides to remake it that they don't change too much to appeal to the SJW narrative shoved down our throats.

My gripe with season 1 was not Michael O'Hare, I liked both protagonists, the issue was the first season mostly one-episode-short-story format, and mostly the somewhat cheesy scenes. From season 2 onwards the show transformed itself into a multi-season story arc, with proper character development, proper buildup, properly paced story, and ended up being the greatest space-faring civilization adventure that I ever saw, with great and deep characters that evolved over time.

Also, it ended in the proper time, closing the loop while at the same time leaving some "what ifs", and it ended properly with a mix of relief, completion, tragedy and hope.

To me, it's a great example of how to tell a long story arc with multiple evolving rich characters and close it properly while still leaving something for the mind to think about.

But that first season... well nothing's perfect. :)

I believe that Babylon 5 made Gene Rodenberry re-evaluate Star Trek. Prior to B5 almost all of the Star Trek episodes were stand alone stories, with no major background plot. After B5 started to become successful there were several Star Trek series that had a major underlying plot line, including ST-DS9 and Voyager.

It's the best and y'all know it ;-)

Here's my homage to the best sci-fi series to ever grace the small screen, rendered with Lightwave:-

Has anyone done the Spaced gag yet?

Can't wait. I watched it when it was on air but never caught all the episodes by a long shot. Looking forward to watching it from start to finish (hope it is as good as I remember)
