Modes "Open Play" Should be the Ideal Mode

No. They said they are considering it.

However, i suspect if they don't do it now, the forum meltdown we are having now will be tiny in comparison with the meltdown that will happen if Sandro goes back on this.

Go on Sandro do it doooo it dooooooooooooooooooooooo It!! I dare you!!

As for the OP, it should. It isnt and never will be for lots of people.

Only way I'd play in open was if the game stopped instantly telling everyone that you are a player as soon as you arrived in an instance and not an NPC, as that's not possible with the networking setup it uses then a close second would be having an optional PVP flag. I'm not interested in having my time wasted by player interaction or interdictions especially with the ways they can be abused currently, I don't care who else is in my instance as long as they can't bother me.

the reason why open is controversial is because of the degenerate demographic of gamers who take pleasure in taking away pleasure from others. do you have a solution to that problem?
Yes, the players who only play in Solo take pleasure in taking away pleasure from others, are degenerate.:D

Advocating devil.

There is no solution.
But problems exist with loud, vocal activist minorities and silent apathetic majorities.
There is no ideal mode, but there may be a least imperfect choice of one. But that's my degnerate opinion.:p

Thats not an in issue as long as you dont play against others indirectly, because as you said you are not intrested in your time being waisted and dont want to be bothered.

But in this case, if they'd actually pull it up, the forum melt down and the damage to the game will be even higher even the last avid PvPer has experienced all the shortcomings of brokered (and broken!) P2P connections. Trying to pull up a forced (as in: unavoidable) PvP system under these conditions is a very bold move (kindly spoken).

Good luck with that, I've already ordered a truck full of popcorn! :D

And what's more hilarious is the "consentual PvP" message being bandied about, as if you even had a choice in Open to begin with.

I think it's wonderful- move PP to Open, please. Let's see what happens after that. We already know what's going to happen.

rather than locking players in open play its better to give incentives give a reward for the potential risk that makes it exciting even for players who don't want to fight if there is a decent reward for danger its called negative reinforcement and it is allot of fun.

ask yourself what would you have to be given as a reward for taking the risk and given that in actual fact the risk is slim but the danger is there... you know there are a few sharks in the deep sea they are out there and some of them you just can't fight... what would it take for you to play the danger game I ask you to ask yourself.....

for me a 20% increase in trade goods profit value would be more than enough

give wingmates who encounter a pirate and defend their trading frieghter buddy an 50% reduction in rebuy cost and a massive rep increase with the system your buddy trades with for giving it all he had to stop piracy

maybe these numbers are a bit unrealistic for you but Im just spit balling it could be a lower percentage but money talks in this game either that or reputation

Many of the players who avoid open want a single player or PVE experience, not everyone likes multiplayer games despite what the games industry seems to think.

For a LOT of players it's not the risk of being in open that keeps them out its the fact there are people there so the only reward that makes it worthwhile is to boot everyone else out and that kind of defeats the object.

I'm not sure why this fact seems to have refused to sink in after all these years, many players just don't want to play in open risk or no risk.

^^This, a thousand times this. I'm not sitting here in solo thinking, man this would be so much more fun if there were other human players around - nope, I'm sitting here with a big smile plastered over my face thinking, no humans anywhere = BLISS! So dear OP, I am already playing in the ideal mode and you can have open all to yourself, thank you very much.

OP
I suppose it is taken as read but you missed ....'in my view...' at the start of the post.
Not sure why (2) is balanced and fair. Skill is by definition restricted to the minority, so time in game (work) would seem much fairer. Rather than catering to only the minority.
Perhaps your game-play revolves around combat .....

For a purely Open galaxy to work, significant changes would be needed to allow PvE and PvP to co-exist in a way that allowed players not interested in Combative PvP to be protected from those that would force it on them and for genuine Combative PvP players to find like minded adversaries.

I’ve posted various thoughts on these subjects over various thread, as of course have many others, but I think some/all of the following would merit consideration:

- High, Medium and Low Security systems implements a Friendly Fire Protocol broadcast signal that prevents Pilots Federation Ships (that’s us, folks!) from targeting or firing at one another.

- Anarchy systems have no such signal - hence become PvP zones

- PvP Combat Zones in different weekly locations (perhaps following the PP and CG systems?) with proper matchmaking on entering the instance

- Pilots Federation Enhanced Protection Insurance:

They'll probably save a sec system implementation for Q4 then call it a "gift" for Explorers!!! LMAO

With the direction this game seems to be heading, it wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Sad part is they would think they're actually "gifting" something that should have been fixed originally- just like C&P.

This would be hilarious. I'd happily lose Power Play for Open to become a PvE mode.

In conjunction with other changes, I think that could work very well:

- Pledging to a Power in PP makes you a valid target for players pledged to other Powers and vice versa
- Community Goal rewards buffed to match Power Play (becomes the PvE equivalent of PP for those not interested in Combative PvP)
- Choosing a side in a CZ makes any player on the opposing side a valid target
- Having a Bounty on your head makes you a valid target for ALL other players
- Discharging weapons beyond the "fine" threshold against Wanted CMDRs makes you a valid target for that CMDR (and his wing) to allow self-defence

In all other scenarios, you are unable to either target or discharge weapons on a trajectory that would hit other Pilots Federation CMDRs (i.e. players) but can still target and fire at non-Pilots Federation members (i.e. NPCs), subject to the usual C&P system.

Add in ramming does no damage to either ship.

And what about those who partake in piracy?
