Modes Why do you want me in Open?

Let's hear it folks - there's a full court press, all guns blazing forum meta-war going on with the very foundations of the game at stake ;)

So combat's not especially my thing - I'll do it when it comes but I don't get my kicks at CZs or Res Sites.
I'll maybe have a brief dedicated combat session once in a while but I'll soon move on again.
Currently at 22% Master.

My builds are definitely not combat optimized, so I'll offer little counter-threat to anyone who interdicts me.
However, I'm also not an OCD min-maxer trying to eke out every Cr/hr, so I rarely fly unshielded (my Mining FDS is the exception).
I've also been around long enough so I know how to get away.
Your chances of actually blowing me up are slim.

What exactly are you missing out on by not having me in your instance?

I think solo and PG are seen as easy mode. You don't face the risk of a PvPer. And I think, like any game, people don't like others having an easier time than them.

Look at most shooters, for example, and the rage people get when you say, play on an easier setting in the story mode. No difference for their game, but someone is having an easier time than them, and they feel cheated. The thing I think that drills this home, is self awareness.

In multiplayer shooters, everyone hates the shotgunner, cos they one shot you with no skill (even though the range is pathetic, which requires a new skill of getting in close, but what do I know, I'm that shotgun scrub). So, people become self aware of anything 'easy', and when they see easy, they think back to shotgun scrub, and feel the need to even the table.

Honestly it's very petty, and they'd actually have more fun forgetting about skill entirely.

Having someone else to interact with. It’s a big place and NPCs are trash. The only hope of having some form of a living galaxy is us. I’m usually happy just to get an o7 back honestly.

^ This, pretty much.

(also, disclaimer: I sometimes don't notice the chat window, so for everyone that ever threw -or will throw- me an o7, consider this post as an o7 right back at ya)

Duh.

I'll throw back an o7 here than there but I often miss the chat window anyway, and the keyboard is an inconvenience that I've largely bypassed with my setup, so the extra hollow square is probably about as much social interaction as you'll get out of me.

You must not be asking me because i don't care in which mode you play. I like open because of the human interaction. Solo feels dead to me. In my experience Mobius is maybe 1 step above the dead scale. Everytime I try Mobius it feels just like solo, hey another player! Oh.. nothing to say. Good bye then. So I play in open and tolerate the players that annoy me.

Sometimes that’s enough. Visiting one of the barnacle sites for the first time last year was awesome but it really got cool once another cmdr showed up. I didn’t know what to expect so I kind of just kept my eye on them. We both minded our own business until I felt but just having that other player there made the experience a bit more exciting.

Yeah. I've been in the middle of Fed space for the last couple of weeks, and the most interaction I've had with another player was someone AFK on the pad of an outpost.

I'd invite you to wing up, we'd load up with whatever the hauling CG wanted, then I'd tell you jokes as we annoyed the hell out of PvPers flying in supposed God builds whilst easily getting to the CG station.

We could do it in Haulers and whoever didn't make it would have to down a shot, (for example)

We'd dream up expletive free but highly sarcastic, witty and biting insults we would send to any attempted interdictions.

Finally I'd probably crack open a couple of beers (and if you are especially entertaining the whiskey) and then you could have a good laugh as I fail to remember to request docking and boost into a station to be insta-killed.

Also this.
On the whole open/solo debate or whatever you wanna call it, I find myself standing firmly in the open camp 90% of the time. NOT because I want to blow other people up. (The last time I found myself in a PvP battle has been over a year ago) It's just because real players are unpredictable. It adds a (pretty big) touch of excitement to my game.
I do have one or two ships outfitted for PvP, but I hardly ever fly them. I fly around in pretty much the same ships as you do I imagine Murdoch. Shielded, engineered, but still no match by a long shot to any real PvP-fitted ship.
And of course I don't really know for sure, but I'd wager there are quite a lot out there in Open just like me. Or you perhaps, once you come over to the dark side of open [big grin]

******** SHOOTERS *********

I didn't buy a "shooter" - many of us didn't buy the game as a "shooter" - hence not wanting to be content for those that think E D is a "shooter".

I was giving an example....

The people who do want you to PvP in open are likely from shooters.....

Also, to the people mentioning playing with others:

*cough* Mobius *cough*

I don’t want you to play in Open.

I want you to play in Mobius PvE, because it’s lonely in there. The only place I ever see in there are at CGs.
