Sorry, I know this is going to ruffle some proto-feathers, but this video screams "wait for reviews" instead of "preorder now."
Same for me. If other (possibly) upcoming IGN videos use outdated gamefootage as well, I'm going to wait for the pre-release Stream to see whether or not I'm going to pre-order the game. I'm still looking forward for it and I am still cautiously optimistic, but I'm not going to sink any money into it, until I am completely convinced the game is worth 60€. Currently I am somewhat concerned that I got the wrong impression of the game in the first place. I expected a Jurassic Park/Jurassic World themed park management game, with a focus on park management, disaster management and economics. Basically to answer the question: Can I succeed where Hammond and Masrani had failed? This means big management and big management decisions. However, judging by the footage I've seen so far, the management aspect has been "adjusted" to suit the needs and capabiliies of a younger core audience.
So, my 0,02cents about the latest IGN video:
The Dinos in the video were, once again, absolutely gorgeous and I appreciate that Frontier introduces so many different species. How many other developers would just go ahead and say "Here, have a Stegosaurus, now go and be grateful." instead of introducing a variaty of species from the same Suborder? I hope the herbivores are somewhat more resilent in the final game and the one sided beat downs from the released footage were just for "PR reasons". There is a reason why even T-Rex didn't mess with adult Triceratops, but preyed primarily on juveniles (and the old and sick and already dead). I know it's a game and therefor the carnivores have to attack adult herbivores. I would still like to see (unmodified) herbivores win from time to time
That being said, the management aspects of the game still seem somewhat lacking (or "shallow") in the video. To be fair, the IGN playtester didn't show any noteworthy new management stuff at all, beside clicking on that one shop. Therefor I hope IGN is going to adress this topic in a later video in depth. I would like to see what the actual park management gameplay looks like (e.g. how many and which statistics do I have to judge how "good" my park functions? How do I manage my shops and my employees?) Basically, I wonder what I am doing when I'm not either working on a Dino genome (excavating, modifying, hatching), placing a new building or browsing the research tab?
Thinking about micromanagement:
If you have to manually click through several menus just to send your Rangers out to administer medicine to a Dino, I can understand why Frontier decided to make them indestructable. I hope there is some sort of automatisation for this process and I don't have to micromanage this procedure every time. However, this leads back to the above mentioned question: Is there even enough to occupy me with managing and running the park?
