Old Video - Jurassic World Evolution: 20 Minutes of Isla Muerta Gameplay - IGN First

It really seems like the triceratops horn should have gone straight through the ceratosaurs neck. I think in real life there is no way a ceratosaur would take on a triceratops. It wouldn't even try. And it seemed like the Triceratops just keeled over and died way too easy. If it got bit on the face like that it would tear loose and drive its horns through the ceratosaurs neck. Maybe not with a Tyrannosaur that had enough mass to its body, but a triceratops vastly outweighed a ceratosaur in real life. It would be really great if there was a greater level of gore. I really want to see horns and spike puncture flesh. Also, the confrontations do seem robotic. It's an exchange of the same "attack moves" until one dies, like in Medieval Total War or something. I know I am going to get chastised for complaining; but I am just pointing a few things out that seem they could be improved upon. Of course there are many good things as well. I know its dev build.

I wonder if it is possible for carnivorous dinosaurs to walk away from a confrontation? Or do all confrontations end in one dinosaur dying?

Also, I hope ranger tasks can be automatically assigned without having to micro-manage them every single time.

I completely agree with just about everything you said. I think the encounters looked extremely stale and robotic. You can tell when the dinosaurs 'snap' into the animation sequences after standing idle by each other for a few seconds. It looked awkward and was rather boring to watch. Also, I'm worried about the variety of attack/kill animations for each given dinosaurs. Variation is what keeps things interesting, so I really hope there are more animations being withheld from the build such as multiple kill animations for each encounter; though I'm doubtful that is the case.

At the very least I hope the dino fighting animations are more evolved than dino X swipes an attack at dino Y, vice versa taking turns - until one of them dies.
My only other gripe is the blood. Which I know has been talked about multiple times and gets the same answer each time, but it would be nice to at least see moderately bloody wounds from the dinosaurs fighting rather than just a puff of 'blood dust'. I understand they are trying to keep this game family friendly, but JPOG was rated T too, and had actual blood as well as animations like a Trike impaling a large carnivore with its horns whenever it won a battle. If Frontier is unwilling to change their stance on the blood/gore then I hope they allow modding so we can add it ourselves. That way everyone is happy.

Yes its a dev build, so I am staying hopeful until release. I don't mean to only complain - I'm super excited for the game to come out and have already pre-ordered. I think it looks absolutely amazing, but there are some little things that will really improve the game overall I think.

Looks nice. Anyone else find it weird how the Dinosaurs keep charging in one direction and skidding on the floor to look around aimlessly for a few seconds? They seem to do it a lot. Just seems a bit robotic to me. PLEASE DON'T CRUCIFY ME FOR "COMPLAINING". I'm just mentioning it.

I noticed. It needs to be adjusted, it sounds weird.

Sorry, I know this is going to ruffle some proto-feathers, but this video screams "wait for reviews" instead of "preorder now."

Same for me. If other (possibly) upcoming IGN videos use outdated gamefootage as well, I'm going to wait for the pre-release Stream to see whether or not I'm going to pre-order the game. I'm still looking forward for it and I am still cautiously optimistic, but I'm not going to sink any money into it, until I am completely convinced the game is worth 60€. Currently I am somewhat concerned that I got the wrong impression of the game in the first place. I expected a Jurassic Park/Jurassic World themed park management game, with a focus on park management, disaster management and economics. Basically to answer the question: Can I succeed where Hammond and Masrani had failed? This means big management and big management decisions. However, judging by the footage I've seen so far, the management aspect has been "adjusted" to suit the needs and capabiliies of a younger core audience.

So, my 0,02cents about the latest IGN video:
The Dinos in the video were, once again, absolutely gorgeous and I appreciate that Frontier introduces so many different species. How many other developers would just go ahead and say "Here, have a Stegosaurus, now go and be grateful." instead of introducing a variaty of species from the same Suborder? I hope the herbivores are somewhat more resilent in the final game and the one sided beat downs from the released footage were just for "PR reasons". There is a reason why even T-Rex didn't mess with adult Triceratops, but preyed primarily on juveniles (and the old and sick and already dead). I know it's a game and therefor the carnivores have to attack adult herbivores. I would still like to see (unmodified) herbivores win from time to time ;)

That being said, the management aspects of the game still seem somewhat lacking (or "shallow") in the video. To be fair, the IGN playtester didn't show any noteworthy new management stuff at all, beside clicking on that one shop. Therefor I hope IGN is going to adress this topic in a later video in depth. I would like to see what the actual park management gameplay looks like (e.g. how many and which statistics do I have to judge how "good" my park functions? How do I manage my shops and my employees?) Basically, I wonder what I am doing when I'm not either working on a Dino genome (excavating, modifying, hatching), placing a new building or browsing the research tab?

Thinking about micromanagement:
If you have to manually click through several menus just to send your Rangers out to administer medicine to a Dino, I can understand why Frontier decided to make them indestructable. I hope there is some sort of automatisation for this process and I don't have to micromanage this procedure every time. However, this leads back to the above mentioned question: Is there even enough to occupy me with managing and running the park?

They should order the gameplay from some YouTuber. IGN plays without hands. I got bored a lot.

This is an example of how a great video game can be spoiled by a useless player. I did not know how to zoom. Desperate and frustrating.

Hello everyone,

Ok, so far i've been lurking this forum and have been reading what everyone else has said. Till I saw this video and I felt the need to speak out.
What is up with this video? I love that they are showing more of the different islands and stuff but if this video is really an older built then why show it so late, I mean this is not really helping those people who are hesitating buying the game. This is making them wait even longer, why would you ask, well I will tell you.

-Animations are way off.
-Too monotone of attack sequences.
-Trikes getting killed by a Ceratosaurus is just not real. Even in JP/JW this should not happen unless the animal was wounded or sick.
-The park they are showing feels empty, sure you have your enclosures and buildings but it just seems empty. (You all know what I mean).
-Clipping of dinosaurs into each other and the ground?

On a positive note:
-The dinosaurs look absolutely stunning, love the Ceratosaurus skin and seeing multiple other dinosaurs is great.

So people are saying that this is all due to an earlier build (March?), but if that is the case why did IGN show this less then 3 weeks before release? Why not show a newer build? This just seems like bad marketing on IGN side (maybe FD but that is just speculation since I don't know what was agreed with IGN).

I am really excited to finally see another JP/JW park building game. I just want them to make it right. I will probably get the game no matter what but this does give me an awkward feeling.

I agree that they Triceratops should have beaten the Ceratosaurus. After all Triceratops should be strong enough to be able to survive a fight with a T.rex.

But I also believe Ceratosaurus would definitely attempted to attack a Triceratops. Why? Remember that Ceratosaurus was use to battling equally large Stegosaurs, and even some smaller sauropods. Plus the Ceratosaurus is about 30% larger than the real life version.

Yes, but I believe Ceratosaurus would pack hunt Stegosaurs; and absolutely would be pack hunting sauropods. Perhaps the infants and juveniles. But I would think any Ceratosaur bite marks on adult sauropods were created from scavenging already dead animals.

And that raises another question I've been meaning to ask; Will large carnivores pack hunt at all? I am assuming the raptors will. But it would be neat to see two ceratosaurs trying to take on the Triceratops. The other just walked away.

I'm in agreeance here.

Maybe a 100% pure genome of Triceratops will win in all cases?

Gang fighting is my favorite!
Love to see multiple T-Rex taking on a Brachiosaurus.

It's just people on Reddit whining. It's all they do there. They whine non stop and sit around and think up things they can whine about.

Here is a thread where they are currently whining about Muerta not looking like it did in the pictures they were shown, but never promised anything. There is clear differences and that island is not Muerta.

Like I said all they do on Reddit is whine, about everything. They also must be too stupid to understand what it means when a developer says they are going to polish the game up.

I agree totally.

The aspect that catched my interest was the part that the build IGN showed was much more recent than we expected.

An Indominus Rex knows nothing then Extremes. A whining Extreme is bad like is a fanboy extreme. (not saying anyone here is). Neither the less the ign build is much more recent then thought.

The build that IGN got is more recent than the March demo build but still a little older than the 25th anniversary build, because in the 25th anniversary build there is a UI change we didn't see in the IGN, therefore the IGN build is a early May version of the game.
Bo said it was more recent but never gave a date nor did she said a few days before the IGN video.

gotcha, thanks!

Just looked it up. The Ign video supports the same ui as for example the 25th aniversary built. The leaked footage has the change in it. So lets call it Version 7th May in comparison to the newest build we saw leaked at the 11th. We just dont know when the builts where compiled. I assume all builds we see are not the actual dev build from inside the office.

So yeah pretty much what Lora said. Dammed confusing with the build versions.

Don't know why it's kind of feel like you're talking of me. ;)

Lately, I'm acting like a Bipolar I-Rex. I don't know how to react to be honest.

As for the build version, I think what Lora said is correct. Personally, I don't really care much of the build version. The bottom line is - I'm expecting a fully functioning interaction animation on release. Even if it is not perfect (to me, equal to decade-old sports games), as long as I can see hard work (as promised) is being done in the RIGHT direction and Frontier continues to promise to keep working on it, I will buy this game.

P/S - I've never pre-ordered a game before. I really wish this can be my very first time (even if it seems to be the very last day of it (June 10th after the Live premier)).

This is a post from Bo about the various game builds on subreddit, I quote the question first: "Bo_Frontier If you could clarify something for us. Is the recent Muerta game play from IGN on the same build as IGN's Matanceros video? i.e Did IGN record everything at once?"
Bo's reply: "Yes, it's the same build, it's a build from late April; there was another build at the Jurassic 25th event. You can tell by the UI changes. The team is still working on the builds and new things and fixes and feedback are implemented every day, so there will be a few more iterations before you see the final build on June 10 :)"

I said early May but it turns out to be even slightly older, I hope this helps everyone understanding the builds and what we get to see is probably not what we will get, because I said it already in the leaked picture from the 25th anniversary build that was newer than the IGN build we seen a UI change.
